- Three trustees of the Van Traylen fund have died during the last months, their deaths resembling suicides. But after a mysterious bus accident involving the final three trustees and 30 orphan children, police colonel Bingham (Christopher Lee) starts investigating and notices discrepancies that make him question whether it was an accident. One of the orphans is treated by a psychiatrist, and when that doctor ends up murdered, it becomes obvious that something sinister is going on, and not just coincidental deaths. The dead psychiatrist's supervisor, Sir Ashley (Peter Cushing), agrees to help the police with the hopes of finding the truth behind the mysterious happenings.

I grew up watching Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. When I was 8 or 9 years old I used to beg my mum and dad to sit up and watch the 'horror double bill' on BBC on the weekend. Often they were Cushing and Lee films. Another great is THE CREEPING FLESH...probably my most favourite horror with Cushing and Lee!
Check out Night of the Big Heat by Planet productions and offshoot of Hammer - they are both in this one, both terrific, Chris the lead this time with Patrick Allen although Peter does a great job as the local doctor. Peter Cushing and Christoper Lee were not only fantastic on screen, they were best friends off set. They would take their families on vacations together and if Cushing was in a film he would often request if Lee could have a role and visa versa. They both became friends with Vincent Price as well and became known as the "Terror Trio" Not only were these fine actors, they were complete gentlemen. Lee also was in a special section of the S.A.S. during World War 2. This unit was to find high ranking officials of war crimes, and if they were to "get out of custody and had to be shot" who was to say? This came to light after Lee was asked by the director in Lord of the Rings to try to imagine what someone stabbed in the back sounds like and Lee said "I do not need to imagine what kinds of sounds come from a person when stabbed in the back."
Actors then had class, often war veterans, gentlemen, and focused purely on entertainment. Actors today are entitled, elitist, babies and all around scum.

Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were great together. So often they elevated horror films by their talent and class. The entire cast shines here. Love the old horror films, especially when the acting ads to the suspension of disbelief. Nuts about these two since I was a kid in the early 1970's and first saw them. They, and Vincent Price, especially can take you there again and again. So many good and scary films back then. Certainly some films no actor could save, lol. Much love from California.

Being an admirer of Peter Cushing (his Sherlock Holmes is the very best!), I was happy to stumble across this - and very happy to see two of my other favorites, Michael Gambon and Kathleen Byron, in this film as well! Thank you SO much for kindly taking the time to load this novelty.

Really enjoyed this, a classic British horror in that fine tradition! Stellar performances by legends Lee, Cushing and Dors and a great climactic ending. I saw a clip here on YT of Diana Dors guesting on Larry Grayson's chat show (could there be a funnier, more wonderfully camp pairing?!) and Diana was saying she had just made a movie called 'Nothing But the Night' which Larry quipped was a similar name to 'Yeild to the Night' - DD said they were very different films, as indeed they are. This made me want to seek it out - so I was thrilled to find it uploaded here, THANK YOU! I agree with another comment here that the ending is reminicent of The Wicker man which came out in 1973, the year after this film's release. LOVE Diana Dors - even playing a badly dressed 'baddie' she radiates charisma and you just can't take your eyes off her. Her death at just 52 was a great loss to the world - tragic and has robbed us of all the great acting roles she's have achieved as she became an older and even more accomplished actress. I would have loved to have met DD - I did once meet Christopher Lee professionally and he was every bit as impressive and charming in the flesh (all 6ft 5ins of him!) in his early 80s. His dear wife was a striking looking woman too - they were a very handsome couple who must have turned heads even in old age God bless 'em!
I've noticed~ if not loved~ how, in many of their excellent films together, Cushing has a soul, and Lee seems souless. Yet, they are incomparable together!

Haven't seen this movie in years. Thanks for uploading it. Its hard to find these old '70s thrillers these days. They don't show these on TV anymore and not all of them are available on DVD or netflix. I appreciate it man.
Yes these were great entertainment, not like the plastic, boring stuff now.
I really enjoyed this, the plot kept you guessing, fantastic use of the Scottish locations, and what a cast Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Diana doors, Keith Barron, Fulton Mackey, and a cameo from a young Michael gambon. No murders every two seconds either just a great plot you can lose yourself in, I loved it.
To say nothing of the great Georgia Brown, as well as the intense and eccentric Kathleen Byron being utterly wasted in the tiniest of roles.
I love mysteries and thought I've seen all of the Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing pairings but you've pulled a rabbit out of the hat for me! Thanks for the great detective work in pulling this up,I will enjoy watching it.

This is really a wonderful production all around. The writing and acting are excellent. A real quality masterpiece in every detail.
These movies have great storylines, character development, location settings, and actual suspense! There are rarely any movies made now with any quality, it's all special effects & who is acting, not their ability to portray the character well. Thank you! Where else will I find a movie made before I was born (close, I admit)? The BBC channel I get on cable in California shows nothing good!
People who are not Christopher lee/Peter Cushing fans run these 2 excellent actors down if they think there films or the actors are boring i would like to see them try it, they would never be as good as Christopher and Peter.

Gail Jacqueline Mrs Gray Lee and Cushing were Gods among men. They were two of the most talented and amazing actors to ever grace the screen. They are sorely missed, and I will always find time to enjoy all the great work they did. Kind regards.

I have this on video ! I recorded when it was broadcast late on BBC 1 many years ago. These films rarely ever get shown. Okay, some of them have dated and may be out of place today. Well worth watching on Hallowen. Once again Cushing and Lee team up well, while most of the cast are no longer with us. Fulton McKay, Peter Cushing, Diana Dors and Georgia Brown. Also featured as a young girl is Gwyneth Strong (Cassandra) from Only Fools and Horses:
Whenever I watch the two Titans Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing together in a flick I feel like Alice In Wonderland 😏😏😏. Such fantastic actors even with a medicore storyline they made the movies worth watching now that is exactly what great actors did unlike the ones of today relying solely on the PR firms to make movies work at the box office! !! Well then, that was worth waiting it out to the very end! I do have to admit though, I did take a nap near the middle (not kidding). I adore Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing, almost as much as Vincent Price. So glad you unearthed this movie, dusted it off & uploaded it, to share with us all ; )
I saw most of this last week on Turner Classic Movies (they're quickly making their way through all the Lee/Cushing offerings), but missed the ending. Actually really liked it. Very atmospheric and paced well.

Very good story plot and featured two of the all time best horror film actors! It's rainy here, this evening, so we're snug on the bed, under the comforter with a lovely glass of wine! Though a slightly bizarre ending ( still within acceptable limits ), an excellent film somehow. Good all-around acting, scenery, camera-work. Shift from one take to another shot elsewhere was in rhythm like 'hurrying slowly' - manner, which kept things going interestingly in this good story. Few future star-actors were involved and of course axle "Lee & Cushing" worked uniquely here as well. Both of them are like "bigger than 'real' horror movie-life personalities" on the sceneries by their own accord. Piece of gem yet perhaps 'hidden'.

Haven't seen this for more than twenty years. They never broadcast films like this anymore for some reason. These films used to be on late at night usually on BBC2 and they were old films even then but still worth watching over the shit that's on today.
Just watched it on the Talking Pictures channel, they show lots of similar films. Looks like an inspiration for Get Out.
Remember back then when we had to be home to watch it at the specific time it appears or wed have to wait another two years to catch it!?! Lol... Good old TV Guide!

@@morrismckinnon6047 well, we didn't have a VHS player until a few years later about when cable came around, we were a little behind. I hated my dad for at least a year when he recorded Sports center bullshit over my favorite part of The Five Deadly Venoms that I had recorded from King Fu Theatre.
I think of all the films in which Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were together, this film is the closest to what their relationship was like in real life. Most often in films, they play deadly enemies or rivals, but in real life they were very close friends.
Thanks for posting, I haven't seen this movie in about 25 years. It is a bit slow to begin with & it only really picks up once they get to Bala. That's a bit odd in itself as the island of Bala was also the setting for the Doomwatch movie, also with Shelagh Fraser. Nice early performances from Michael Gambon & Stanley Lebor (Howard In Ever Decreasing Circles). Despite his short role, Keith Barron gives good support as ever.
I lived next door to Diana Dors' ex sister-in-law who had nothing but hateful things to say about Diana. I thought she was a lovely lady - there were some fine actors kicking about in the 70's --- lots of great movies. Thanks for uploading.

I didn't think it was boring at all! But of course I'm a die hard fan of these sorts of "scary" movies in the British/Scottish Countryside! Especially with two of the great horror movie stars of all time, in it!

Good grief, this is another ace film from the seventies in which the cream of British acting talent resides. There's Keith Barron, a brilliant eighties staple telly actor and the stunning Diana Dors, a legendary FAFCAM smasher (Fit As Fuck, Common As Muck) to say nothing of that mightiest of duos-Lee and Cushing. You yanks can keep your second-rate "buddy" cowboy/cop/gangster films-we had these two.
Lee and Cushing belong to us all. At least Americans shared Vincent Price with the world and he is in the same class as these two. I'm also a big fan of Keith Barron and Diano dorrs was a living doll in the 50's and 60's. PEACE

Christopher Lee even won a major Heavy Metal Music award for his contributions to heavy Metal. Thanks for posting William... I have reached the ripe old age of 50, and never seen this! I am a huge fan of Hammer, and the Amicus Horror anthologies! I have things like Island of Terror, Dr Terrors House of Horrors, Tales from the Crypt etc etc! So looking forward to watching this! Cheers!!!

I have this on VHS from Monterey Home Video as "The Devil's Undead."
Christopher Lee had his own production company for a short time and this was one of the films he made with it. Very hard to find and critics didn't think much of it. i disagree.
He gave up producing after this movie because he didn't enjoy the process. He was an actor, an actor above all others and he and his wonderful friend Peter Cushing will always stand head and shoulders above all others and serve as role models for all of the acting profession. From all I've read, they were both consummate gentlemen and multi talented, educated scholars!
At some points there's a whiff of The Wicker Man atmosphere.

some of the Cushing-Lee films had parallels. Nothing But Night definitely had a Wickerman Feel. Remote Scottish island full of weirdos, someone burning to death at the end, corrupted children etc. Then there's the Creeping Flesh....fossil comes alive and starts killing everyone just like Horror Express. Then there's House that Dripped Blood which was a bit like Tales from the Crypt.

This was the only movie made by Christopher Lee's production company. He had intended to make high quality horror and thriller movies but this first movie was a very expensive failure .
Perhaps he came along a bit too late- maybe too few understood, or appreciated this great actor. Otherwise, how do you account for his sterling performances in the The Lord of the Rings (trilogy) as well as the many films that followed? Lee was one of the GREATS!
