Who knew Max von Sydow was such a physical actor? It looked as if he did most of his own stunts. Amazing.
So, the stunts, were not stunts😂
@@E-Kat I read that the did all his own acting!
@@AnthonyMonaghan it looks like he did! What an amazing chap he was.
Just watching him running through the snow in his vest and underwear was making me shiver.
That was an unusual film, wasn't it? 😊
@@E-Kat He must have had extremely good knicker elastic to ensure 'the boys were back in the barracks' at all times!
@@Londonfogeythe cold probaly kept them in check ...
This was a great movie. Held my attention from start to finish. The ending was superb.
You have to get out more
I never felt so cold in my life!!!
Damn, what a great movie. Von Sydow and Trevor Howard were wonderful, and the supporting cast was excellent. I'd say more but I wouldn't want to inadvertently insert any spoilers. The thing about picking out movies based only on title or who is in it, is that sometimes one finds a gem like this, a veritable Hope diamond of a film.
Simply a Magnificient movie ! What a plot , Ingenious ! Sydow was Master, Howard a great one & Liv always a talented beauty! The parrot was Awesome ! Thanks so much for this gem
The ending was so clever!!!
Excellent upload!!!
I saw this on TVs in the mid-70's! I stayed up late with my Mum and.we watched it together!
Fantastic to see it again!!!
I love those nostalgic movies.... when u remember from a time long ago. I watched the Mechanic with Charles Bronson the other day and remember watching it with my dad back in 73 .
@@SIERRATREES 'Memory Unlocked'
Same for me; Watched it with my Dad!!!
That ending eh?
I haven't seen it since the mid-80's...
I'm going to track-it-down later 😁
Remember seeing this as part of a triple bill at the drive-in when I was 10. It ran with Play Misty For Me & Hitchcock’s Frenzy. I grew up a little that night.
The parrot was genius.
Thanks
More most any movie, this one makes the improbable wholly believable. Kudos to the whole cast!
Wow, the ending! Thank goodness!!! That was quite a rollercoaster ride! It all seemed so hopeless! This was a good one!
Watching from Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam, can’t believe such a suspenseful outstanding movie. Looking forward to the end result. Thank you all respectfully Leo.
Watching from Bruxelles,Belgium...How's the weather? (kiddin') ✨👽✨

Watching from tropical Cairns/Australia.
It's winter time, 8am....and I'm already in my shorts, no shirt
@@norbertschmitz3358 watching a serial killer with no pants fighting ice and snow! Lucky man! 🤣

Yes, it's a strange world....our little planet has to offer😉😊
Knocks you off balance from the beginning; dizzying, frightening, tense, disturbing. Takes you on a twisting turning unsettling journey. Another masterful thriller from the 70's. Engrossing, impossible to turn away from. Liv, Max, and Trevor are in top form; hypnotic, masterfully crafted, and completely unpredictable characters. Everybody shines, not least of which the guy who plays Anton. What a ride!? Thanks so much! Much love from Santa Cruz California. GREAT film!

WHEN HE OUTSIDE IS DAY
WHEN ENTER ITS NIGHT OUTSIDE
Of course
I'll be honest I started to watch this film on the TV many years ago and gave up on it quite early, wish I had'nt done so! What terrific film it is, the storyline is very good and the actors are really on top of their game, I should have stayed with back the day because it's brillant throughou!
Another masterpiece from an era that continues to be challenged from contemporary entertainment..
Excellente El Presidente ! And if young Max did all that action himself, then he clearly had balls of Swedish stainless-steel !
MAX VON SYDOW is very good in this😮 Thank You Very Much...
Top actors and well directed.
Every one should see this film as the story is marvelous and the actors the same
Did von Sydow not play a game of chess with Death to walk away with his life? That was quite wonderful. I don't recall if he won. Very great accomplishment if he did.
So exciting ! How nostalgic I feel to come across this movie again! Thanks a lot !
Watching from Pennsylvania USA 🇺🇸 this is a really good movie
Me too

Here you go again!!!;😂

Definitely kept you guessing, how and what was going to happen next. Storyline was original to me, and I have reviewed a lot. Great movie.
Superb, Bergman meets Hitchcock!
This is not a Bergman movie.
@@WagnerHertzog123 David must've been referring to Ullmann and von Sydow, and the bleak landscape.
1970 Was One Of Those Splendid Years For Horror Films And Films In General...I Love That Thia Film Took Place In Winter...He Must Gave Been Freezing In Just TShirt & Shorts...
Max was a real head case, breaks into the house in his underwear in winter opens a wardrobe full of clothes and takes a tie, what a prat.
Topnotch flick. Brilliant ending. Very original story line. Tight all the way through. 10 outta 10
10 out of 10
@@ushahari5333 I guess you never heard of slang.
Great movie from start to finish.
Thank You VCICM very much for posting it.
So I watched this in full last night and I'm still cogitating on it. I wont spoil the story for others, but that ending ? The creators must think we are lunatics to believe what happened haha Good film though, but what do you expect from a stellar cast of actors. I see now from the comments that it was actually filmed in Sweden and Holland, it was blowing my mind during the film, but I couldn't get my head around all the English speaking and what looked suspiciously like an English Police force....bonkers 😂
❤❤❤ qué buenos actores Trevor y Max....muy buen film excelente... thanks
no credits for the parrot ???
I swear it looked like the parrot was acting, even did a profile for a close up.
Parrot spoke prophecy, and like all Prophets he was ignored.
Max as the lunatic murderer is much more superb comparing to his the professional killer part in "Three Days of Condor"!
Always lovedLiv Ulman .Bless her
God I loved the 70's!
Sooo suoerior to the mess of today!!! Where did the world go wrong!!
Great find.
I remember seeing this little know film when it came out as a kid. Haven’t seen it since. Definitely going to have a watch. Thanks for the post.
El abogado estaba a centímetros de una pulmonía, pero Salem saliendo de noche en pleno invierno y casi desnudo, ni un resfriado... :) Buena película. Saludos.
Great movie! Greetings from Evergreen, Montana, USA. ❤❤❤
Riveting, and so immersive that I expected frigid weather here in the summer when I stepped outside.
What a cast! Liv Ullman, Max von Sydow, and themes of insanity in barren Scandinavia are also prevalent in "The Passion of Anna" from about the same year.
superb. never seen a film with an atmosphere like this.
Thanks…what a gem,got any more as great?❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
Awesome!!!
الفلم تحفه فنيه لا تفوتك مشاهدته وخاصة نهاية الفلم اروع ما شاهدت great movie
That was a really good watch!!...some hidden gems on youtube!!.
Productor Mel Ferrer....no le sabía esa faceta a este consagrado actor ❤
Excellent. Iconic film. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy.Cheers from Toronto!
Brilliant movie! Thank You ❤
Great actors , fantastic setting and subtle direction . Effing parrot ??? . ❤ Thanks all . Dave
Excellent movie! Kept you revitted to the screen !
Thank you!
Parrot should get an Oscar . For an axe wielding murderer he is very savvy . Prisons in Sweden should be given a lick of paint ! . Excellent movie 😊 . Thanks. Dave
Great movie! I just loved the ending. 👍
Filmed March 1970 Sweden and Denmark.
Nice twist. Made me LOL, even though it wasn't the ending I was hoping to see.
Max Von Sidow, Ah yes, he played the priest in the Exorcist, I seem to recall. He was in another brilliant film " The Second Victory " set just after WWII. ( 1986 )
Instead of visiting asylum himself ,the inspector could have made a call to find out whether the suspect was present in the cell....the investigators seemed too slow...
The police should have followed his footsteps in the snow right back to the asylum.😂
From the comments, I gotta watch this 🎈
Another fav. of mine ! Thanks for sharing. ♥
Max was young on this
The parrot saved the day .
I'm so glad you posted this. THIS IS FKG CLAASSSIC!! Saw it a number of times, gonna watch it again, thx.
Great film
VERY GOOD SUSPENSEFUL MOVIE WITH A GREAT CONCLUSION
very strange and extremely unlikely ending of the film, in fact the ending with the parrot spoiled an otherwise not bad film 😊
Yeah, stupid bird
I know it's a minor detail, but as someone from Denmark I find it so odd how the farmhouse is clearly a Danish farmhouse while the asylum is typical Swedish. Scandinavian actors speaking English is also another funny element of this film. I suppose the film was primarily funded by British cash.
Plus it has the ultimate English gentleman Trevor Howard dressed in a weird fur hat like some sort of Russian agent!
Loving this, but goodness sakes those are some short shorts.
Roaming around the forest in Winter in Scandinavia . In his underwear..?
He'd be lucky to survive for more than 45 minutes..!
Great movie....thank you.
Great movie.
Nice movie. Liked the short shorts
It was a pleasant surprise to see Rupert Davies show up as the lawyer.
Good film
Wow, I wasn't expecting that at the end, very cool.
What an ending very good.
After your post I had to watch the ending again.
GOT to be GOOD with "Maestro Mancini" on The Score! Just Subscibed! ThankYou❤
Que buena pelicula y que final mas inesperado, 100% recomendada,.
The police could keep an eye on the asylum to see if he could repeat his escape, at least for a while and tell him that Emmy was saved in the hospital and she’s recovering at home, she’s going through some small memory loss. If the parrot wasn’t there, what? Bad police work? Also, before driving fast and furious to the asylum, he could make a phone call, and ask them to check Salem’s bedroom.
Good movie
To be in a asylum close so your family's home is unbelievable. And the parents aren't hysterical over the death of their daughter, nor, the sister over her sister's death? And the police inspector leaving a crime scene unsecured? A unusual movie in a bleak winter setting. Great actors. What a ending!
The original Hannibal Lecter, nice twist at the end.
Great movie i've enjoyed this very much. Filmed in sweden? Thanks for sharing this 🎬🇫🇮
Halland Sweden. Yes.
Saab and Volvo police cars. I've drive Saab 🎬🇫🇮
Argumento muito bom que prende até ao fim. Gostei e recomendo. Dois grandes artistas.
I'm watching this for the third time..in bed because it's cold here too😅from 🇦🇺
Spoilers: 1. where did Salem get the rope and grappling hook that he gets from under the rowing boat on his return to the asylum? 2. He needed the rope to climb back up the tree to cross the wall, so on his previous trips how did he manage to hide the rope under the boat if he was already on top of the wall? 3. He gets rid of Pops by distracting him with an ugly chess set, so that he can open the cell door. But how did he open the cell door on the other two occasions he got out? He only showed Pops the new set on his third escape.
Thankyou x
Have often wondered since 1971 why this great suspenseful revenge movie's so rarely presented --- now you know why Father Merrin joined the priesthood.
Great movie 🍿
😊the ending was 👍
Watching from Holland
It took me awhile to figure this out. Hi from Jacksonville Florida. It's hot here.
He talked too much! That got him caught. Even then, had the police done their job in the first place these murders would not have happened. ;p Absurd ending. His escapes and returns were ridiculous too. It might have been done but not at that speed. If you keep logic, brain in pocket it is a good timepass. He might have said the bird flew to him. He had wings, did not he?
OMG! I laughed myself silly at the end! 😆
The horrors of hell far worse!
How does one hack a body to pieces and not get so much as a speck of blood on oneself? Btw, the ending was quite a plot twist.
Great flick
Liv Ullman Max von sydow Per Oscarsson..three Swedish Actors..the best ❤❤❤
Bloody Hilarious...Busted By A Parrot...😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
I did cross-country running at school to get out of playing rugby. But we didn’t have to go out if it snowed. And it actually did snow in those days
Good movie 😊
Cop drives right by him hanging on the asylum wall and doesn't see him? That's some "Blind Justice" right there 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Right?
@@greenqueen2673 Well you'd think with those big, shear walls and you driving along a road, you'd be looking up at what might be at the top and anything in between. That's just you and I who'd do that, I guess. And I'm...not a cop, 🤣🤣🤣
