Thanks for the video. I have a 1972 or 1974 jacket that I got for my birthday in the above years. I’m not sure which but the jacket is now 50 years old. I’ve never worn it. It’s very stiff, the denim was thicker back than I think. I have kept this jacket all of these years because my Grandma got it for me for my birthday.

When I worked in California about 20 years ago, I’d regularly visit the mom & pop stores and Saturday morning flea markets…
I’d fill a couple of suitcases with old Levi’s 501’s and Type 2 and 3 jackets… you could buy them for $5 and less.
Also old M65 US army jackets and navy deck jackets.
I’d bring them back to U.K. then repeat the process every time I returned.
Now I’ve got a whole stack in the attic - but only wear about 4 or 5 of the really old ones … so it’s time to think about EBay.

Great video! I've been looking for resources to aid in narrowing down specifics while shopping online for Type III jackets from the 1980's-1990's. Can you recommend any videos or blogs that concentrate on reading date codes on the care tags, dates that the care tags changed (from red to black, to the current style, etc)? I'm shopping for a specific gift and am finding a lot of repeated, though good, information in my search and would appreciate any guidance!

Just a note in the cinch back. A two pronged cinch was used from the 1890s in the denim blouse, later becoming the 506XX, and 213. The sliding cinch is believed to have been introduced in 1944 by some collectors but it’s more likely it was introduced in 1947 when they bought the pocket flap back.

Also there was a Levis factory in Dundee then, also in rural Angus we bought Levis from the chemist which sold wellies, blaxnit socks, and Levis, the only Jeans prior to that were Woolworths big X jeans,Also the Fishermans association in Arbroath sold Lee jeans ,and Doc Martens ,especially shoes (early to mid 70s)

Inspired by how people wore their Trucker Jackets in the '90s and designed with superior craftsmanship"

There are no care instructions. The Levi tag on the inside is cloth with red lettering of Levi in all caps and San Francisco in all caps..Is it authentic? If so what do you think its worth..Still has its dark blue denim color and in excellent shape. No holes or rips.

They were a thing especially in leather and denim jackets. Actually they started earlyer but I belive 80s were prime time of that style. Im courious to know where that came from, I can easily imagine it was a Levi's thing, one cousin of my had vintage levis one in that style and I couldn't find about it much. I have a jacket my dad bought for me around 1962 or 3. It has a 557 XX label. Large E LEVI's label in the pocket. Two chest pockets and buttoned straps on the back on both sides. There are no rivets, just heavy yellow stitching next to the top of the pockets and at the top of the cuff seam. It has been worn, first by me and then by both of my daughters , so it has some condition issues. Most prominently, the stitching at the top edge of the collar has failed. But I can still wear it, as long as I don't have to button it up. Any idea of the value?

I do find my Japanese salveged LEVIS are more like the weave we had in the 60s..
The lead indigo dye was alot harder to fade back then.
When we 1st got them there was also like a white cotton , white fluff on the Denim, it took several washes before it disappeared. .
Also because of the slim salveged looms there was lot of over stitching on the weave.. So the 501 Jean's felt much thicker. they were very raw!..
There were Button flys .52/6d and Zip flys 49/11d.. I was 70 this year but still have a passion fo LEVIS..And proper salveged Dinim.. I have a massive collection.. great channel. .👍👌

Mine has 526 just visible on some of the back buttons. I bought it in 1988 and it was super old then. The buttons on the back are far too worn down to have been manually done then - everythng else checks out. Interestingly - even though the label is long done - there is a small care label that is printed rather than woven - bought it from a woman in Camden who told me it was her Dads. She seemed genuine enough - i just bought it as it was nice and think I only paid about £15 - £20 so why would she lie?

Found a Levi's Type I at my local Goodwill and watched this video to help me date it. Seems to have all indicators of being an original from 1947 or after. The big E is there, only one side, no registered trademark, front flap, Levi Strauss buttons, cinch back (buckle is rudimentary and bit rusty). No leather tag, I can see where it WAS but it looks like its been gone a long time. Thing is, other than missing the tag and some of the seams for the pleats coming undone, its in really good condition which makes me question its age. Any idea if these were ever repro'd or heavily counterfeited?

How did you know this was the exact video I needed this week?
Went charity shop shopping with my sister and we found this old levis jacket (sadly not in my size, but fit her like a glove), deffo wasn't 2000s or 90s and I've been trying to figure out when it was from.
Without sounding too nerdy, although we're all denim geeks here let's just admit it, I'm gonna note down some key details before I see her next so I can pinpoint when the jacket was made.
A bit of history on the jacket and I will slowly turn her into a denimhead. 😂
Keep up the great vids man

It’s an interesting time for denim for sure. All the move to the heavy washing and the open end spinning. Guess it’s not for the hardcore denim head and it’s not really hit a trend yet. It’ll come I’m sure.

Thanks I enjoy this article I have a type one jacket, at least I think it’s a type one jacket and I think it’s kind of vintage it doesn’t have a label on the back I think that pretty much write it off along time ago has no sign of a care label on the left side as you said and there is not really a series of numbers on the back of the buttons although I see you I see a regular consistent number but no no way in the shape that you depicted in your video(It’s not a straight across number is one number on one side and another and another and you know so on three different aspects of the back certainly I can send you a picture of the jacket it has a small E, one pocket end it also has a loop to hang I found this jacket out west I’ll be more than happy to send you a picture if you’re interested in looking, But you have to let me know if you are interested and I will take detailed pictures of the jacket, I’m mildly interested to see if it’s a vintage jacket I really like the jacket quite a lot hold the button so Levi Strauss and so on the back has the house looks to be Brass and the rivets are copper, anyway, thanks for the article, and hope to hear from you

Personal choice, think type 3 is the worst. Maybe due to how common it is these days. I saw a guy in my home town the other day wearing a well worn in type 2( almost certainly repro). Got to admit it looked great, he had obviously got a perfect fit as it was just spot on.

I have seven pairs of Levis I'm selling. Mostly from the 80's, 631 in size 30, 505 in size 12 m, 631 is 31w, 538 in size 28. 550 in size 6m and 512 is also in size 6. Some are close to new, the 538 has a ripped knee. I also have 3 other pairs not Levis of jeans, one has a couple bow ties behind the ankle, Pelican Cove size 34. with heels very sexy, and a pair with lace and velvet flowered pattern. Been holding on to them for the past 30 years time to let them go. I'll post the pictures of them on my twitter and youtube channel If you could help me to sell them I would appreciate that very much. Thank you.
