First Impressions on my Wersi Sonic OAX - Stefaan Vanfleteren

- You can only understand Today when you embrace History. But, also: you can only love History if you live Today and look towards the future. That’s why I expanded my Wersi collection with today’s model, the computer based Sonic OAX. It will stand proud next to my Atlantis, a totally different instrument which will never leave my music room. I have the OAX-instrument since yesterday, so just some first impressions in this video. And of course, as always : no automatic style accompaniments or midi files are used.

Historia de un Amor: A Love Story at 4:40 is beautifully elegant, the guitar is so realistic and Misty, the piano is right on and some of the best sounding piano out there. The trumpet is incredible, I could listen to all of this for hours....the accordion...don't laugh but the word that comes to mind is delicious! LOL I feel that you played today with more emotion and I am not talking about body movements or anything like that, it just had more feeling coming from you...anyway, I like it and your new Sonic very much! 👍👍

My first Wersi Organ I build up in about 1970 (W248). I was very familary to both of the company founder Franz in Halsenbach and I produced the accomying musik for my magiciaanshows by myself. Also in German TV. This is on of the reason why we like your perfect inscenated and very nice played music with Wersi instruments. Many greatings from the nice black Forest (Dobel 800 mtr. Another Wersi & Great Playing --- I had one of those Oax & found difficult get used to with Windows so gone back to Roland but prefer Wersi sounds & Klaus ...........

I am so excited for you! I was hoping your hints would lead to the Sonic series. I know everyone has a preference regarding different models of organs, I like the newer crisper sounds of the OAX and am excited with the options it will make available for you. Hello Stefaan, The newer the instrument, the more advanced it is (at least in the case of instruments like organs where technology is constantly advancing the product line). Your new organ has the same great qualities as your Atantis keyboard. The piano, trumpet and guitar voices sound like the actual instruments. The OAX has great sound! Regards, Will Ortiz

Hello Stefaan, I wanted to tell you about David Hicken from Great Britain. He is an artist and composer who has written many wonderful piano compositions. He also plays a pipe organ. He actually has both a grand piano and pipe organ in him home. I think you would enjoy many of his works. I have listen to many of his composition and they are outstanding! Not only do you make the Sonic produce beautifully, but you have paid great attention to how other musicians play their instruments. You replicate a guitar flawlessly as you do other instruments. May I ask two questions: Where did you get your formal music training? How long has it taken you to gain such a strong command of the Wersi products? Thank you in advance.
Hello Brad, thank you so much for your positive comments. In fact, I played the Wersi organ in the eighties and nineties, and stopped then for many years. It was only in 2020, the Covid year, that I started playing again, and made youtube films to entertain my mother in the lockdown period. In my youth, I studied music, church organ (2 years) and piano (3 years), but I guess that most of the knowledge is coming from experience, and listening a lot to music. Best regards from Belgium.

Stefaan, was the trumpet at 3:37 the same trumpet as the one at 5:49 the second one sounded more elegant especially when playing only one key at a time, very special!
José, it was the same trumpet indeed. Only the playing technique is somewhat different in the second part...

Thanks ! There is certainly nothing wrong with using the arranger. However, for myself I prefer the pure playing without any automatic melodies .

Which model of OAX do you have and why?
Hello David. This is an OAX 600 . The ideal model for me: I didnt need full pedal (I have it allready on my Atlantis) , but a 7 octave lower keyboard was need to play also in a “piano Way”. Best regards, Stefaan
It's good, but it's not as nice as your fabulous Atlantis, and my wonderful scala! It really is about the playing rather than the price!
Indeed Marcus, the playing makes the music. And I love my Atlantis. But I just wanted to discover also the computer/sampling based Instruments like the OAS/OAX

Dankjewel Luc. Inderdaad, het zal steeds kiezen worden tussen mijn Atlantis, Spectra of Sonic. Maar ze hebben elk hun eigen geluid en mogelijkheden, dus dat komt goed ;-)
Good playing, but where are the typical wersi sounds? These strings are so straight, no wersi strings :-( . Sounds like a keyboard or sampler. But not like an organ from wersi :-(
die Streicher die du meinst sind auch drin,sofort auf der ersten Seite der Strings ! und alles was jemals für OAS verfügbar war ist ebenfalls im Romspeicher drin ! es gibt 2.000 Werk Sounds und 2.500 drumsounds !! aber er hat mindestens 16 Giga Ramspeicher und kann Streicher laden oder andere samples,davon träumt jeder Keyboarder und wenn das noch nicht reicht dann kann er sich Kontakt-6 problemlos installieren und dann öffnet sich eine Welt wovon viele träumen :) glaube mir ich habe die Pergamon und gebe sie nie wieder her :) Aber gib dem Mann doch mal ne chance,der hat dieses Instrument erst bekommen und noch dazu komplett life ohne midis oder Playback etwas online gestellt wo sich ganz ganz viele ein Stück abschneiden sollten :)
Thanks Thorsten. You are right, it doesn’t sound like a Helios, Galaxis or Atlantis. Because it is not a Helios, Galaxis or Atlantis. But it sounds as an OAX-Organ, which is also an organ from Wersi. And it gives me other musical possibilities, such as a perfectly sampled pianosound in combination with organ drawbars, or a perfect sample of the comet guitar sound... And you are also right: in this short period I did not discover the best string sound in the organ yet. But one thing I can asure: it was different playing compared to playing my Atlantis, but it was also lots of fun! Many greetings from Belgium!

Great playing, I would spend 17000 EUR on an organ (+ cost of speakers) only if I would be able to play like this.... I think these instruments are too overpriced, probably because are not mass produced and sold in small numbers.
Thank you very much Davide ! The instruments are indeed made in small quantities, and of course also the software development costs a lot of money. To me, this instrument is worth every Euro. But indeed if you play only "as a keyboard" on it, then the pedal and lower manual are not necessary and it's more economic to buy just a keyboard like the OAX1 or Genos.
