Had same exact issue with my 700+hp STI also. ACT Mod twin had broken the pressure plate springs. ACT overnighted me replacement parts across country. Love their customer service-few photos/email and phone call. All was handled in few minutes.
The spring tab(s) are broken on the steel plate. At 8:38 your thumb is on one that is broken. That will cause the clutch not to work properly. I've seen a couple of the mod-twins break those
I know you’ve probably already heard this, the “redline cocktail” is pretty bad for the sti 6 speeds. I’ve torn a few down and the silica in the fluid after it gets hot and breaks down clogs the clutch packs in the dccd and front diff. The lightweight shockproof does more damage in the long run than a messed up syncro. It extreme cases it even clogs the pickup tube on trans. Best you can do is upgrade to carbon syncros and run extra-s and or motul. If you can’t get that castrol synchromesh is good also. I know bader swears by that stuff but tear one down that’s ran that mixture and you will see.

Send it back to ACT. They warrantied my mod twin out of warranty for the same issue. It’s the little plate “springs”. Had one break giving me the same symptoms. 100% what it is. Known problem they replace with “updated” parts
@07:55 i do, the input shaft isnt greased, allowing the clutch disks to slide smoothly without binding on the splines of the input shaft. ALWAYS grease your input shaft spline prior to re-installing your transmission.
You can always put a ratchet strap around the trans and the transmission jack to hold it as you pull it down, trick I like to use

Had this same issue happen to my RX8. Currently sitting in a shop waiting to get a new clutch installed. TBH I was terrified when he went to test it because if it didn’t work then I might’ve been in the same boat
Usually when that happens the means the clutch isn’t fully disengaged so many things could happen the hot spots could cause the discs to get stuck and not disengage or the plates are getting stuck or something or a burr something was hanging something up! I had this issue and my disc fell apart on me but it was because the discs were overlapped and not disengaging.
literally just had this same issue in my car after i replaced clutch master, slave, throw out and clutch fork, needed another new master, OEM this time, and some slight adjusting in pedal and master rod. clutch is just barely a year old, stage 3 single disc exedy

My friend did this in his Golf R, the clutch looked fine but he basically welded his semi metallic clutch pack to the flywheel basically simulating 6 neutrals
My issue was no clutch/brake fluid….. I physically pushed down on clutch pedal and lifted it back up several times after filling reservoir….. was good to go after that…

FYI the floater is sticking to the post. Same thing happen to me. This clutch can’t handle hard launches over and over again. It overheats a lot and I have talk to others who had this clutch and destroyed their motors with the flywheel bolts backing out. I want to love this clutch due to no chatter noise and how soft the clutch peddle feels, softer than oem but what I have seen and experienced so far, this clutch is not good enough to withstand the abuse of high HP cars. Anyone reading this should consider going with Os Giken triple or Exedy triple.

When you first installed that clutch I bought one for mine. I haven't installed it yet but when I do , I hope I don't run into the same issue.
Get a different clutch it’s junk
My Evo 9 MR kept doing that clutch issue but I adjusted the clutch pedal and it works fine now.
Take it out and change it. Had the same issue on an evo x and the pressure plate was bent or had high spots. Ended up changing it to an excedy and no issues
I’m liking the fitment! I was thinking of getting 18 by 9.5 for my 21 wrx but didn’t want to to poke out! Wonder if it’ll poke past the fender with stock suspension or I’ll need coil overs! Great job with her car! Keep up the great content Devin!
i had that happened on 2 of my cars.... on one were some pressure plate springs... on another it was the springs in the center "hub" of the clutch disk.... on both, couldn't engage 1st or reverse while the engine was idling... and if i started the engine with those gears already engaged and clutch pressed, then when i lifted the clutch to start moving, it all would start shuddering until i got my foot of the clutch... so i say, 99% chance something is wrong with pressure plate springs and/or clutch disk springs..
Start it in gear it will try to stall and then it will turn off and just try it multiple times and it’ll finally start, check motor mounts as well this could cause it. Also you might have gassed it with the clutch half way in or something

I have this clutch in my evo x and it’s the monolock collar… change it out I don’t know why but they go stupid fast on this clutch… even try to beef the new one up if you can… I heard people doubling up the springs on it but can’t confirm never tried yet
Bro my 07 hawkeye does that sometimes but I have issues where the clutch pedal doesn’t want to fully return. I can pull it back with my foot but it is nothing till the last tinny bit. I believe my problem is slave cylinder. It does it if I bang gears or if I run it out to almost redline and shift fast then it does it also when I’m doing pulls.
It will come back on its own if I just cruise and not use the clutch or use gears to slow down.
I have yet to do a clutch since buying the car. There’s even been times I can’t get it in gear at all
Release fork might be bent/warped or the ball that it pivots on might be screwed into the wrong hole.
I have the same exact clutch on my sti, and im running into the same problem as devin, my clutch is dragging... even though i never beat on it and it has less than 5k miles on it.
I gave up and ordered up a OEM clutch/flywheel with smaller turbo😂
I like no matter what you do, but something about the way it looked on the 19's with the tighter sidewall compared to now, it just doesnt have the same appeal for me. Sometimes form over function needs to take a back seat if it helps the car to drive better.
i hade the same problem with my double exedy clutch when i didn't use the car for a long time it got stuck to free it i put it in 1st gear then start the car with my clutch donwn then lifted cluch up slowley it wood jump and free the cluch off
At a guess I'd say the diaphragm springs went weak on the pressure plate
money shifting center of clutch is blown out I’ve done it once 😂

did you then figure out what that ticking sound was which was coming from the prop shaft and also did you re-weld the broken exhaust mount
Have you tried looking at the arm that pushes the clutch?
I had a similar issue with my 1991 mr2 years ago.
The arm was cracked and wouldn’t push the clutch in properly.
This happened to me I had to start it while I’m gear
Twin disks and pucked clutches get broken in with burnouts/launches, only full face disked clutches need break in period
Maybe you have a cluct master servo problem losing pressure

Pressure plate is knackered the fingers on it have weakened
Clutch fork and throw out bearing is junk. Common for WRX. Clutch masters go bad too.
