The bass however doesn't sound so good as in the original (it is doubled with midi synthesizer in it).

proud to say I have now learned it
its a surprisingly easy song to learn. its about 99 percent muscle memory. ive been playing for years and so i know my instrument well. it took me about 2 days to get it down of solid studying. the fingering is the only complicated part since the strums are all on beat and the rhythm doesn't change suddenly. It really only takes speed which can sometimes take forever to develop. I personally have been having far more trouble with suspicious minds by Elvis Presley and basically anything Flea from RHCP has played in his career is brutally hard to learn. I have yet to even begin any of his works.

This is the song that turned me on to Muse so many years ago. I sold my last bass long before I had a chance to try this. Well I just picked up the bass again , having not played for over a decade. this will be my first challenge. Thanks for your wonderful tutorial!!

It's been sometime I was thinking about doing that song but without good skills I was already quitting... But with your video I found a good inspiration and actually after 3 hours I'm able to play the intro at the 80% of the actual speed of the song and I'm totally AMAZED! Thanks so much for this. Finally a video with a slower tempo and tabs so you can learn the rhythm and then just work on speeding it up afterwards.

Yup! This a very busy bass line but it still follows a pretty standerd chord progression.
verse A7 - Em - D7 - A7. chorus C - G - D - A (moving down in 5ths).
It follows the simple chord progression.
Dm and Am in the chorus ;)

I mean thats like the only reason I play bass is to play amazing lines like that. Anything by RHCP is solid gold for basslines as well but that goes with having the best bassist in the business. I personally think tame "one note repeated endlessly" bass lines suck. its why i quit playing for my local orchestra (I play standup and bass guitar). id study the cello piece instead and then learn the bass part just before the concert. Its also why I don't play in a band because unless i can dictate the bassline i play i know im gonna get stuck with some basic level stuff. I mean i get rhythm is hard for some people so it can be challenging to stick to even that kind of bassline but if you play bass your rhythm should be metronome level dead on.

This song is actually way easier to play then I expected!
The problem is the speed. 4 minutes something of 16th notes is hard to keep together :(

+Robin Jonk It's more about timing and stamina than anything else. You can play the riff one time and say "oh, that's easy" but after playing it over and over it wears you down haha.

Your timing really makes sense here, a lot of tutorials for this bass part the timing doesn't quite seem musical.

This is amazing! Great tabs, Great Playing! I was able to learn the verse and chorus and actually play pretty close to the tempo in under an hour of studying this video. I have no idea and don't understand the 90 dislikes for this video. Keep It Up! Cheers.

Tabs are a godsend. Without tabs learning songs would be incredibly difficult. Trying to learn via video and such is way too hard.

thing that I thought when I saw the binding on that bass was "vintage Japanese replica". I play a '74 Greco RB750. I've also owned a "real" Ric before. Notice how that is in the past tense. The Greco is the keeper. And you have most excellent playing.

This bassline is deceptively simple, and I've learnt it to the point where I can play it for a couple of seconds...

But I have an important question, I see all the other vids for this song that they play some notes to connect the intro with the chorus but you just go from one part to the other... I don't understand how is that possible, if you are not playing that part how is that it comes right in the song? maybe I'm missing something here :S

The chorus is off. The string in between the octaves makes it sound rather clumsy/clunky. The correct way is actually:
G -- 5 -- 3h5 ----
D ----------------
A 3--3----------
E ----------------
And the same pattern on the G, D and A notes. It requires you to either bar or your middle finger to be tucked under your index, but it sounds right.
The intro/verse notes are spot on

The Rickenbacker couldn't handle cliff burton so he got an Aria Pro II+
for everyone new learning bass or any instrument ; if u start with learning a hard song itll be easier to play other songs !!!!

The 5 in the tab is best played with open string D

Do you really think it's harder to play with open D? as this bassline is all about open strings.
hiephoi058 I think the both ways are good, but you need to do extra left hand movement to stop string from ringing in the right moment. When you play 5th You do it pretty much automatically :)
