    This is quite saddening, Thomas busses are the only reliable bus in the industries, safest, and can actually accelerate. Ive passed this video on to our transportation mechanics and all of our c2’s, hdx’s, and older fs-65’s are being inspected as we speak. Ive also sent this to our bus local bus store and ESC. Thank you for finding this, all c2s run great in our district from our 2018 c2s to our 2013 c2s.

    This is scary. The electrical designer must have been drunk to manufacture them with the 12v outlet tied into the ignition fuse.
    Edit: This issue has resulted in a recall Daimler Trucks North America number FL-804.

      Andy's Shop my question is how to fix? Can a modification be done on our own to give access ports their own fuses for this particular bus so we can solve the problem ourselves in the interim?

    I rode a 2010 IC bus or 2010 bluebird vision when I was in high school. I like IC buses because they are solid and are the gold standard for school buses at the expense of ride quality unless the district pays extra for air suspension.

      I toured both the ic and bluebird plants and was not impressed with their outdated mechanicals. Also their use of stem bolts I did not find desirable. Seems that the bus makers are just in a race to push out mass transportation as cheep as possible. Unfortunately it’s going to be at the expensive of are children’s safety. Thanks for watching and the comment.

    WOW! I drive for a rural district in Arkansas. Currently we have 3, maybe 4 2018's being used. We also have 5 2017's on the road too. I will be sure to pass this info on to our mechanics (maybe they already know). I hope that Thomas takes care of this. On a side note, I drove one of the 18's last year to Memphis, and the power port was not working. It is possible that the dealer that sold us our buses was aware of this problem, and had already disabled them before delivery. At any rate, thanks for putting this info out there.

    I ride the 2016 Thomas C2 and the USB Power Port works fine, no problems. My Bus Driver charged her phone with it one time and the bus was fine. This must only be a flaw for the 2019 C2.

  • @DylanBegazo
    @DylanBegazo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The Solution he states is very true and quite common sense. He says the power access ports aka cigerette lighter or whatever you can plug your shit into, power access ports should have their own fuses. Period. Their own fuses. They shouldn't be sharing fuses especially the power ignition fuse. Why would a designer be ok with that? Perhaps it's because a designer is a desginer and a mechanic is a mechanic... Perhaps Designers should have their designs reviewed by mechanics like Dave here before the design goes all the through to manufacturing. I have no executive company chairman experience but if it was my company that I owned, that's what I would do. So yea. Very very smart guy. Nice catch ^_^

    I ride a Thomas C2 (to school). This is probably completely unrelated, but on my bus, the pneumatic door started working weird. It wouldn't shut tight and we were going down the road with the door slightly open, and it swung all the way open when the bus took a left turn. Most likely just normal dust in the pneumatic system, but i wonder after seeing this video.

    Interesting. I’ve worked around Thomas’ buses for years and have never seen this before. That outlet is more likely an add on right after the bus was built(as it is an option) so my guess is they were routing it poorly which is what caused this... however I don’t understand how this just came about, it’s not like the design of that bus is “new”. Our new HDXs don’t have that problem

    I’ll have to check mine out to see if I can duplicate this. FYI , the 5 amp fuse in the side comp isn’t for the aux power port, it’s for the optional accessory power access block with 4 ign and 4 batt power.

      Dave Exline Exactly! Our bus company has about 90 buses at five different school districts. I’d estimate about 75-85 are C2 Saf-T-Liners. Our district itself has about 24 of those in which 5 are not C2 Saf-T-Liners. The other 17 are route buses with 2 being activity/spare buses. So there is a very large potential for something to happen. The 17 route buses and 2 activity/spare buses are 2017 models so maybe that flaw didn’t affect those but as you said, who knows how long this has continued? And there might be a possibility that this has happened before but they didn’t report it to Thomas or Thomas didn’t make a big deal of it. Otherwise I love these buses, in my opinion they are better than the IC CE’s.

    • @andrewp1173
      @andrewp1173 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dave Exline My only reasoning I’d see as to why this is suddenly happening is possibly because when that law came out requiring all vehicle manufacturers to put camera systems on the vehicle. And when Thomas redesign the schematics of the wiring, something went undetected there? Because I’m pretty sure Thomas started making their 360 camera view system standard in 2018 models.

      @@treasurehuntwithcaptaindav2674 I test both I have on the lot a 2018 and a 2019. Both blew the fuse in the kick plate. That fuse is a 7.5 amp fuse. I put a 10 amp fuse back in on both of buses and retested and they DID in fact blow the engine fuse under the hood. That does happen to also be a 10 amp. With the correct fuses in place 7.5 amp in kick plate and 10 amp for engine under hood things are good on mine. We will see if a recall came's out. Thank you Sir for the heads up.
