I swear i can smell that, and it is making my tummy grumble. Yet another recipe for me to save and make. I recently had your Western breakfast skillet - yum! Can't wait to try this one. Thanks John.
John I know you dislike reading criticisms, but this is a helpful one for future MRE’s with cheese. I was noticing as you spooned out the baked meal onto the trays that the cheese on top was ending up on the outside squares, not on the inside squares. I suggest just melting the cheese and drizzling it onto the trays after traying up the meal, and before putting in the freeze dryer. Or putting it on the trays before portioning out the baked yummy on them if there’s a concern about going over the 2 1/2 pound mark. I hope this helps, and I hope my comment survives your discretion 😍
Thanks for the response. It wasn’t until now that I’ve been on the receiving end of the “you do you” comment, and how it sounds. I always thought it was a neutral thing to say. I just thought the idea was to have cheese in all, or most of, the completed freeze-dried squares of the casserole. I do love how you made it! It looked great coming out of the oven.
When I first started out it was trial and error adding just a little at a time. After over 300 videos I have discovered that 1/4 cup per square works pretty much all the time.
@JohnInBibs thanks, good to know. I am still in my early stages (on batch 6) and overly particular about all weights and learning how to do/not to do things. It is a lot of fun haha

I hope it turns out great for you.

Love the clocks
My mouth is watering.
Those mylar pouches are really nice. Thanks for telling us about them.
Yeah, they are great, aren't they?
i love cabbage, that looks good.
You never let me down - our garden gave us way too much cabbage so I froze some wondering, “what do I do with frozen cabbage” Now I know THANK YOU
You are most welcome
This looks delish. I haven’t used my FD in over a month. Trying to figure out what to do.

Thanks, this is a casserole baked in the oven. This is the way I like to do it. But you do you by all means.

Lol, just put up 50 galumpkis in freeze dryer. Also you can layer in crock pot, works very well also.😊
That sounds like a great idea. I may try that sometime.
Hi John, I have your cookbook but did not find this recipe. Can you share it?
I'll try to make the time to write it up for you
How did you come up with knowing the amount of water? Did you weigh after to know how much to put in?
When I first started out it was trial and error adding just a little at a time. After over 300 videos I have discovered that 1/4 cup per square works pretty much all the time.

What is that unit you are cooking the meat on. Not seen one like that please let me know
It is an induction cooking plate
Have you ever used ground elk meat for this recipe
I think it would be safe to say that I haven't ever used ground elk for any recipe, LOL
Elk meat is the best!
Your clocks were going off like crazy
Oh my gosh those clock bongs are annoying. How can you stand having that in your house. Lol would constantly scare the crap out of me.
