"AngloSaxonDemise". I believe the majority of Chinese and American people aren't racist, but there are always forces trying to make our two countries go to war.       It's a combination of the *"Red Scare"* (fear of communism) and the *"Yellow Peril"* (fear of Asians overrunning the West) mindset that's fueling anti-China sentiment in the West today. Since the 19th century, Westerners have grown so throughly accustomed to the notion of Western dominance, so much such that the very thought of a *non-Western, non-liberal democratic* country like China eventually surpassing the United States as the premier world superpower someday in the foreseeable future, is simply too frightening for many Westerners to fathom.

      @@MarkYeung1 Personally, first impression and feeling is very important .Saying that since my first time visit to the mainland two weeks staying between people all make me I wish never leave China but I did not get the same true affection after being in HK before visiting China. Why,? because I felt being in very friendly and human place. You need to know I live in very well developed democratic country.

But China's objection is towards WHO team revisiting markets and labs that they *previously investigated* before, during the 1st investigation.

      @@jp95js I agree with your last sentence, "Countries really have the responsibilities to work together with WHO do deal with this pandemic", and WHO had already did its research and investigation in China about the virus earlier this year. It's time to gather all the facts and investigation from other countries to get a full picture of understanding about this virus. Because it's been known and discovered that some covid cases were found in other countries even before China announced it. WHO needs to find out what's going on in other parts of the world.

    I was born in Denmark 75 years ago and experienced the well-fare state at its best. I principally left the West at the age of 18 to live in Asia, first India and for the past 45 years in Japan. I went to China in 1983 and have been to China almost 50 times since then, so I know China well. In my opinion, China is a more free country than Denmark with many more opportunities to pursue happiness. I think the Chinese Confucian system of meritocracy is far superior to so-called Western representative democracy in all its forms, where totally incompetent people can be elected into highest office due to popularity. they typically fail to deliver, so in the next election the opposition gets the power, 51 percent overruling 49 percent (please study Gaddhafi's Green Book) giving a totally unstable government not for the people but for remaining in power. In China they make five yer plans after consulting numerous think tanks, universities, opinion groups, the intelligencia etc, and not least by following public opinion on the Internet. Yes, you cannot rule China without the Mandate of Heaven. And what is the Mandate of Heaven. It is the Voice of the People. Only after long deliberate considerations are a policy then formulated, that favours the general interest of the entire population of China. This is very different from Western democracy where politicians say what they believe their voters want to hear and then do something different that is politically necessary to cling to their seat of power. In my opinion, this means China is much more democratic than any Western so-called democracy.

    Terry really holds the belief of equality. He said the Chinese should enjoy the same standard of living as the Americans are having now. However, American ruling class like Obama and Trump do not hold the same belief. Obama once claimed that if all Chinese lived their lives similar to the American way, it would be a disaster because the world doesn't have so much natural resources. Trump also publicly claimed that there were no equal treatments when China making trade negotiations with the US as the US interests should always be the most important matter. I am pessimistic about the American ruling class changing their mindsets and really treating people from other countries equally.

      China had Most Favored Nation status for decades, meaning exports to the US were given favorable tariff rates. You're right, that was not equal treatment.

      @@sparkeyjones6261 The so-called favorable tariff rates is not as fair as the rules set by the WTO. That's why China focus on joining the WTO rather than negotiating bilateral trading agreement with the US annually. WTO is the "REAL GLOBAL STANDARD" as it includes members all over the world instead of the "so-called International standard" claimed by the US solely. In fact, when there are any trading disputes between China and other countries, China always tries to resolve them through the arbitration under the WTO platform. In contrast, during Trump's administration, the US threatened to withdraw from the WTO when there were verdicts not favorable to the interest of the US. China definitely respects the WTO, the real global standard, more than what the US does.

The importance is ever more crucial as we (here in Australia as in other western countries) see an increasing number of racist attacks towards Asians just because more and more fear is being pushed into people’s minds through a very narrow minded, racist corporate media.

      It's utter nonsense. China has the Most asylum seekers in America each year. More than the next 10 nations claiming asylum Combined. Most Latino asylum seekers (except Cubans) are denied asylum but the Chinese get asylum because they specifically claim they face oppression in China. Japan has no asylum seekers in America. Neither does Taiwan.

      @@cyberpunkalphamale this is assumed to be rhetorical, but just in case it isn't, Vietnam was forced out of sympathy to head to Cambodia because both the Maoist Chinese and the USA (both of them) let Pol Pot create a "Red Guards Dystopia" in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, leading to the 'Killing Fields' sustained campaign of politically motivated extermination, as well as widespread malnutrition + starvation.
      The murders, despotic rule and border raids were something Vietnam put a stop to.
      It was this that CPC wanted to prevent!

    The last point…Lee Kuan Yew the famous Singaporean politician once said on stage in Hong Kong in front of the British that he never believed democracy would bring prosperity, that one person one vote only makes sense when the majority of voters are educated people. Well, that is understatement for being polite. It’s obvious that you would let your 10 year old to vote for ice creams but not cars and homes; but that’s not all. Yes China has already eradicated much poverty but that doesn’t turn people into government experts in economics, sociology, healthcare, education or foreign trade. The best government is one that is composed by qualified people who are workers for the people, not for individual financial gains. The government is very clean now with little or no corruption. They can stop Covid, why can’t they stop corruption? And we know more or less how the US lobbying, campaign financing and election work.

      No, IMO, the best government is one that keeps experimenting with things to see what works with qualified people yes, and allows for a system of decentralization where the people can vote with their feet. Voting for your local government with their feet is an old practice that works. Also thanks to the internet, e-democracy should be experimented with, via allowing citizens to directly take part in the government at certain points with rules implemented by web apps, and also tests can be done to make sure that citizens are competent.

    I really like the 3 stage of human right u both r talking about. The 1st and 2nd must be fulfilled first before any individualism BS interfere the 2 more important aspect of human right. Only fools and brainwashed citizens emphasize the 3rd criteria rather than the 1st and 2nd.

      I am partial to freedom of speech, however, freedom to have as many children as you want despite not being to afford them, despite leading to statistically higher crime rates, hmm. A lot of countries are in an education bubble where the skills taught at the university aren't important in the job market (India, West, China), and lack of speech freedom is going to make it worse IMO.

    The individual human’s “One man one vote” right only appears/happens ONCE every 4 or 5 years for 1 day. The rest of the times each individual human has no rights to decide any of his/her political destiny.

    The USA has a problem with a bad partly dysfunctional system and unequal distribution ....and wasteful use of resources on an unproductive military. Using resources better and focusing on a sustainable way of running the economy will make the world safer and better.

    The "purpose of the government" really touched me. I was born in a small village in China in 1989. In the 31 years of my life as of now, I have been believing for sure that tomorrow will be better than today and it turns out true every year. I used to think this is natural everywhere in the world. After travelling a lot in different countries over last 10 years, I realized that I have mistakenly taken the Chinese people and government's efforts to make our life better for granted.

      Your country, though not perfect is a good country.
      No one's country is perfect. But it fights for everyone's country to have the right to be independent.
      I also think Chinese people are good people who are yet to be appreciated globally, in Africa, at least, that sentiment is gaining more prominence.

    Hi Cyrus, i am from Singapore. We have always been called a policed state and had an authoritarian government. It was never the case. We have freedom, just that we cannot abuse it and criticism must be constructive. We are not perfect but we focus on first principle (Not democracy) which was to achieve an outcome that benefitted Singaporean. Another important thing was the media, we are not allowed to drive any narrative that compromises racial harmony and promotes facts and stability including propagating good governance at all state level, social and academic institutions, religious space and the commerce arena. I was glad that our founding fathers laid down good foundations for us to build upon and we constantly must tweak to conform to the expectation of the newer generation without de-stabilizing the very pillars and anchors that built us since our founding. I went to America in the 80s for a month to consider studying there. I saw many negative things there which were finally uncovered during trump years. Then, I decided to remain in Singapore. America is not bad, but what i saw in New York was not what i like. I was not allowed to wander at 7pm on the streets by my American relatives. That itself among other reasons was a good enough reason for me that made me decided Singapore was a better place. American people are in general very nice but the social system was broken. It was then, and it still is. Is fair to say China rise mirrored us except that the dynamism of the chinese are frightening and far-reaching. While USA is arguing and finding a bridge between wearing a mask and freedom (I pity Dr Fauci) china has more or less recovered with proper ring-fencing measures in place to fight the next pandemic and of course flying rockets to space..during this time. The difference is stark. If only the american media allow airtime to Chris Hedges, Jeff.Sachs and Richard Wolff and of course both of you, it will probably mitigate the damage that has been created by toxic politics and military interventions over the years and sad to say currently GOP is expediting the decline (Ted, Abbott, Santis...), but i love Bernie and Mitt. In short, we do not want a failed america but given the current state of dis-unity in America which drives it global approach to politics that will ensure the govt of the day gets the vote and stay in power, i am quite pessimsitic.

    just reading the declaration of independence..... I think Americans should really look at reforming their own government "That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government...." now one party is to oppose another so that nothing gets done and is becoming destructive

    What is the purpose of government? Unfortunately, as Terry said, we sometimes elevate the method of selecting our leaders above the purpose of government, believing election is the only way. But no one seems to reflect on why we oftentimes end up getting inept leaders.

    The problem with US newspaper and other news agencies is that they are entirely staffed by journalists that grew up reading fairy tales and believed that fairy tales are real. That is what makes them so good in cooking up lies and false stories

    I have to admit, I had been critical of China due to the western news media. I have never been to China and now believe I have been misled by the western mainstream media. I think the TH-cam influencers that went to China give an honest review of China than the Western media.
