Hi. Clueless mom here trying to understand what pokemon cards to buy for my 6 year old. What does TCG mean? And what is so special about EX and GX? Where can I get them?
@@Cheriahdoll I know it's been 2 months, but hopefully this is still helpful. TCG means "Trading Card Game." EX and GX (as well as the new V and Vmax cards) are special Pokemon cards that have extra power in the game. They also look really nice, with artwork that extends through the card. You can get them in booster packs (which are plenty of fun to open, but the cards in the packs are random, so you never know exactly what you'll get), as well as promos in tins or boxes (they'll often put a specific Pokemon GX or EX at the very front, and will generally include a few packs as well). If you're (still) looking for a gift for your child, I'd probably recommend a tin or box, as they guarantee an exciting promo card, include a few packs, and tend to feel more satisfying to receive than a stack of packs (receiving a tin feels more like a complete product than loose packs). As the Professor mentions, some promos are worth more than others, and if your child is interested in playing the game, I'd definitely recommend checking prices on the specific promos as well.
Quickly falling in love with this channel :) I mostly watch the MTG stuff but my son is into pokemon and I love that i can learn about that too. I am an mtger from revised, 4th and ice age. Sadly I had many of my valuable cards stolen over the years :( But I do have quite a collection by now. I just got back into magic and am having fun.
Hey prof, can you please make a RW Vehicle deck with the new aether revolt cards? Since smuggler's copter got banned and the new vehicles were released I'm not quite sure which ones are good for my deck. Ty :)
I imagine there is someone in the world who takes the giant cards with them to local store matches. They put the Pokémon up as an attacker and then SLAM! Giant Card goes on the table!

I think it's also very important to consider the packs inside, a box with roaring skies is worth more than a box with evolutions if everything else is the same

the problem with oversized cards is they are hard to store properly you need photo sleeves to store them and they often take up alot of space personally i like them but would rather have a pin or figure instead
I'd love for you to review the Battle Arena Decks, like the Rayquaza vs. Keldeo or the Xerneas vs. Yvetal one. They are a bit more expensive than a normal theme deck but come with a much better deck.
While I prefer playing Magic to Pokémon, the biggest thing I love about Pokémon is the inclusion of online codes. I exclusively play thePokémon TCG online and those codes really help me get into the paper game and try to teach my friends, because I am essentially getting the product twice. Mtg should take note

why did you give the Flygon box such a low grade? I feel like a box that contains its MSRP in value should be a straight C, it's exactly satisfactory if that's the card you want

The flygon ex box is actually quite good as it contains out of print packs, that's what these boxes are normally for, people who want out of print cards
I really don't care for those jumbo promo cards.. Might as well just make it a tin instead without the jumbo.. They did that in celebrations recently where you got the Lances Charizard V or Dark Sylveon V in a box with the jumbo for 20-25 or in a tin without the jumbo for 15..
I gotta say, while this may only apply to my local stores (keeping in mind the fact that it's been 3 Years after this video was posted), Boxes tend to sell for the exact price of TCG Packs present in the box. The Jumbo Card and Promo Card come at no extra value. Therefore, if the Promo and Jumbo are good/you like them, it's a worthwhile purpose. If the Promo isn't good or the Jumbo isn't appealing, it could end up being useless and one would be better off buying individual packs (even if it's the same exact price).
Wonder how much of a difference the boxes with figures make? In Europe we don't have much of a choice since the sale of figures in these products are banned (I'm guessing some health & safety issue), so we only get the ones with jumbo promos. From an American collector's point of view, it makes some of these Jumbos harder to get since they're not available States side, and from a European perspective the figures are quite valuable since they're not available here!
i buy a few dozen of each box and sell out of the oversized card before anything else the popular pokemon blow out very fast the mewtwo and charizard late last year was sold out in a day 24 cards each just a fyi

You NEED to cover pre-constructed decks sooner or later. I wanted you to cover XY-Evolutions specifically, but maybe my message got lost so here I am again. But by the time you get to reading this, the Sun and Moon decks should be available in paper form. Personally, I've used the digital versions, and I think they absolutely suck. Although I'm relieved that I just shelled out 1000 Trainer Tokens that I had to grind for instead of real money and real cards. But I let you weigh in on what you think of pre-constructed decks. Sun and Moon theme decks, are they worth it?
Love the review, but i think more time should be spent on the box itself. These boxes are HUGE for what they are housing! Those boxes could be cut in half and still presented elegantly.
Robert Wojciechowski Kids prefer to get larger boxes as gifts for Christmas and birthdays as opposed to small compact items. The boxes also look pretty badass as they are.
Should be mentioned that the box is also purely for holding the contents until you get home. Unlike a tin (which can be used as storage) these boxes are glued shut.

Packaging and convenience add value. For people who want to buy 4 packs, this product is superior to buying 4 loose packs because it is more convenient and with nicer packaging. Giving a grade seems reductive, if value is subjective and open to interpretation by each viewer.
I'm probably weird but... I don't know anything about Pokémon, but my partner loves anything Pokémon regardless of value, so I use these videos to know what is recently sold so I know what to buy. Otherwise I'd never understand what has been released when.

Hmm this is a dilemma. I like prof and want to support him as best I can but am not a fan of the increasing amounts of pokemon content. My compromise was to leave the video to run and post this comment as I believe watch time and comments give the most ad cents, but Im also leaving a dislike to express my opinion. For everyone claiming to unsub, unfollow, etc over a topic get over yourselves. But for the prof youve expanded your channel in so many different directions it starts to dilute your subscribers. Just a few rambled thoughts, have a nice day everyone.

The pokemon TCG codes don't give you the same cards.

It's a marketing tactic. It's a similar reason as to why bagged potato chips are nearly twice as large as it needs to be.

I never liked to buy ex boxes. I like buying seperate packs since its cheaper and the more randomness means more chances of getting an ultra rare

Huh, I didn't figure the Snorlax GX would be $6. I wasn't particularly impressed with it, which kind of sucks, because I really like Snorlax.
Well my Snorlax Gx box had a Diance EX and a full art mega venusaur EX so I'd say mine was worth it
