How To Hard Wire an LED Tailgate Bar: Tacoma TRD Offroad

  • 👋 I have been wanting to do this and do it right for awhile now!! In today's video it's time to install an LED tailgate light bar for my 3rd generation Toyota Tacoma! This was a pretty cheap kit and I think it's well worth it to give your truck another cool feature for the rear! The kit came with a 4 prong adapter so you could just plug it in, wire the reverse lights and call it a day, but I like having everything look factory and I didn't want a plug just sitting there exposed. So I took a little extra time to hard wire in the lights and after some testing it's all set! It's really not that hard to do and this is the easiest way to keep the trailer plug in the stock form meaning if I had to disconnect the light bar I could easily do that and it would not have any affect on the stock wires, everything could go back to stock. I made the mistake on my red tacoma cutting the trailer light connector off and reattaching all the wires, so this is definitely the way to go! Hope you guys enjoyed this one!

    I would recommend using the new heat shrink tubes that have a low temp melting metal solder piece in the center to connect and seal the connections better. Those connectors are magic for all outdoor wiring. I use my truck near the ocean, well actually in the ocean when launch my boat and having the copper exposed (not heat shrinked) would corrode in less than a year

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed

    I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra and had the same issue when using the tap-in connectors, they would not puncture and make good connection for a four color wire LED bar:
    Truck : LED Bar
    White: White
    Yellow: Yellow
    Brown: Brown
    Green: Green
    Reverse Red Wire : Drivers tail light Red/Blue reverse light.

    I think I'd want to hardwire to my Tundra rather than use the plug

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it looks much cleaner hard wired. And won't have to worry about the blue falling out. That happened with my 07 a bit. It'd come loose every now and then

  • @gumbeelee21

    U KNOW THEY MAKE A T HARNESS CONNECTION SO U DONT HAVE TO SPLICE INTO ANYTHING AND EVERTHING IS STILL HARD WIRED AND STILL HAVE USE OF FACTORY TAILER CONNECTION

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just don't want anything plugged into the actually connection all the time, to me that doesn't look good and I still have the connection available for when I tow, but everyone has a way they like!

    • @gumbeelee21
      @gumbeelee21 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats what I am saying you still have the factory tow available. The t harness plugs in where u did the hard wiring and u still have access to the factory plug. Here is the link to the one i used with my light bar so u will know. Making a future wiring nightmare for a light strip held on by double sided tape? No thanks

    Noooooo. Don’t use taps like that. They corrode. Do it right. Solder and use heat shrink tubing.

      @@BrosFOURRSpeed explaining what goes to what color to color in the video. Chart was hard to read and many points were made out of context. I did not see the description before so thanks for that, just wasn’t said as smoothly in the video

      @@ColtonYoungblood I know it could’ve been a little confusing, we spent a lot of time off camera figuring it out. So filming and doing that, we did the best we could and tried to summarize at the end. Hopefully the description helps you. It’s the same as the diagram I showed so it’s more clear.
