- First time for me turning Port Orford Cedar, I have recently taken down one of these trees as it was growing too close to a house, so I have a pile of this at the moment.
Finished in Danish oil, the speaker has a 2 x 50W amplifier with Bluetooth connection.
On the website now for sale.

It turned out pretty nice
Wow Matt..!! Very innovative..and the craftmanship always superb..!!!
I love it..!!!
Thanks
I literally had no idea what he was making until I saw and heard the finished product. Amazing. I've never seen cedar without a dark stain on it. (as in cedar chests) This is beautiful.
I’m working with some Port Orford cedar right now and it’s so silky smooth even as milled 2x6s. Smells great and is creamy like Matt’s, but also isn’t a true cedar. It’s cypress.
That's great, Matt. You never cease to amaze me.
Bill
Cheers Bill
Hello Matt you always amaze me with your craftmanship and talent and your great imagination. The wood has amazing grain and it looks awesome. The speaker is magnificent and unique, I like the bit of resin you but around the edge and middle it looks really nice. Matt you are very talented putting this speaker together with all the fiddly little elements you needed, it's got a great sound. Thank you for a great video. Amanda xx
Thank you very much!
Thank you Matt!
Nice work and estheticly pleasing!
Blessings always! 💜
Same to you!
Cedar! Not only does it please the eye, but it probably makes the room smell great too. 👍
I can almost smell the lemony scent through my smartphone of that freshly harvested wood
Love that colour
💯👍Nice job and music as well:)) Thank you so much and all the best to you, Mr Matt!
Many thanks!
What a stunning looking speaker, Matt! 😮

Sometimes, all I can do is LAUGH, at how GREAT YOUR GIFTS ARE........ just incredible, Matt. 👏👏👏👏👏
Had to watch to see what you meant 😁
@@MattJordanWoodturning 🤣👍
I purposefully went to Port Orford to see a tree and most people there had no idea what I was talking about. Finally found one in someone’s yard. We use to use them in boat building.
Amazing as always ☺️
Thank you!! 😊
Well, that's certainly something very different. ❤❤
9 minutes of a creative genius at work. WoW 😮
Perfectly said
Es wäre schön wenn du mit denen Mittel die wir haben mal ein Video machst . Eigentlich doof das ich mir das anschaue.
Simply amazing job!
Thank you! Cheers!

Well Done 👏🏻😁👏🏻😁👏🏻😁👏🏻😁👏🏻😁👏🏻😁👏🏻😁
Thanks! 😃
Nice work the wood to be speakers.
Que trabalho incrível! Parabéns!
Looks great Matt, the acoustic system will benefit greatly from a Helmholtz resonator, the speaker drivers and pushing and pulling against a closed cavity and can sound better if you calculate the volume and cut a hole to let air in and out as the drive moves.
Do you mean I could include something like a tuned bass port to make it sound better?
@@MattJordanWoodturning yes and there's a way to determine the size hole you will cut, it's based on the volume of the interior of the cavity I believe. If you search for Helmholtz resonator calculator in the field of loud speaker design you'll find a new rabbit hole to explore! Love the video, awesome wood turning!
@@RobbieHyde I'm going to guess to never watched the video all the way through..
I see I misunderstood what the wood tube you made was doing, I take back everything I said 😂
Do you mind me asking what brand those incredible speakers are? I can’t get over the intricate detail. You are a dual treat craftsman!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I wonder if the speakers are wired in phase or out of phase since they are opposing eachother. It looks great.
Very beautiful sir
Thanks a lot
Sensational video.
Glad you enjoyed it
I'd like to play Du Hast by Rammstein in that home built speaker.
Beautiful! Just beautiful. Be interesting to know how the wood species changes the sound with density etc. Also, the song at the end, I don't wanna cheat ... Gnarles Barkley??
There is difference in woods I've noticed, I'm not into measuring these changes though. Difficult to explain but the harder woods tend to give a dense clean sound but lack vibrato and almost clinical, while woods like this seem to have a bright ring to them if that make sense, that's my interpretation anyway. And the song at the end is called Ice & Fire and can be found here th-cam.com/video/0dUmCKfwCG4/w-d-xo.html
@@MattJordanWoodturning no I completely understand. Just like some speakers have warmth to the sound.
Oh, miles away, but thankyou very much.
🎉🎉🎉
❤
Will you make several of these and sell them? They are so unique. :)
Just the one set at the moment, I may look to do an resin a burl one at a later date
Smells so good, right?!
Great video as usual. Is this actually Port Orford Cedar rather than Oxford?
Good spot, auto correct has a lot to answer for
Good job! 👍
How did you make this wooden rings?
thanks, on the lathe
Very cool
Nice work! May I know why the wood needs months to dry off? Is using a machine not possible?
Best to leave the wood to dry naturally as much as possible if you can, reduces the number of cracks, in some cases a piece can and will split into two if its dried too fast
@@MattJordanWoodturning ohhhh I see. could be tough if you live in a wet/humid climate I guess hahaha
Suggested song for next time: Wooden it be nice - the Beech Boys
(typos intentional, so don't bark up that tree)
Do you sell
I do, www.mjturning.com
Прикольно☝️👍❕
