    The Bird Cage is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I still laugh when I see Nathan Lane wearing crocs.

    According to the serial killer Ed Kemper JW walked like that because he was 6'4 tall yet still had very small feet . Tall men with small feet apparently have balancing issues . Ed's dad was the same. The giant Ed once stod on a JW footprint when he was only 14 and completely covered it.

    • @jvj4505
      @jvj4505 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not so sure about the small feet claim. The Chinese Theater concrete boot prints seem small, but I think that is because of the style of riding boot he wore. The heel is set forward pretty far as seen in this photo.
      Edited to add: Dean Martin's boot heels are even more exaggerated.

    • @NeuroHead
      @NeuroHead 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jvj4505 Ok now that makes more sense . Maybe Ed wasn't so smart after all :)
      In theory though the explanation of small feet vs tall person for his walk would still stand as this style of boot would simulate having small feet.

      Don't get me wrong, I love John Wayne movies, I love westerns in general, I grew up with them and I take great pleasure in watching them again and again whenever they are on TV or online.
      It's just that I fail to see that special thing everybody else seems to see in his walk :)

      Thats sort of the deal. He walks with a bit of a limp, it's subtle, but its there. Let alone the way he talks is iconic. Just watch a lot of Ryan Stile's impressions of him. He exaggerates the best.

    • @jellyacc
      @jellyacc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      lol! maybe it don't look so good from the back. i agree, he does look like he's tired. and it's very awkward. but from the front, 00:02 you can definitely see the confidence in his strut, he looks pretty cool from that angle lol

      @dpastor6631 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      No, I'm sorry you guys are wrong as to why John Wayne walked as he did. When he was younger his dad said for him to walk with his toes slightly pointed in to give a more "manly swagger" to his walk. The walk by Wayne is very intentional...it is not a limp or a mobility issue...it is a deliberate swagger in his walk.

    Before Hollywood the Duke played football and had an injury. It affected his walk somewhat. He worked for John Ford moving sets. It was John Ford who gave him a break into the movies. He encouraged the Duke to exaggerate his walk the way he did in the movies. I’ve seen his display of clothing, boots, hat, saddle and guns at the Gene Autry Museum. Yes, he was 6’4” and no, he didn’t walk that way because he wore size 10 boots. They were big boots on display and had to be 12, or 13 or so.
    Miss you Duke…

      There are different theories like he injured his foot as youth, and fracture never healed properly or that he walks toe-to-heel. In america toe-to-heel type walk is associated with native americans in wild west, but its actually natural way humans should walk. Because we have started to wear constrictive boots we go heel-to-toe, but any group of people who use less shoes or primitive style shoes naturally walk toes first, but most to us modern humans it looks very odd way of walk, but i think some people walk like that even growing up with modern shoes

      Mike Barkett, I just finished reading the bio of Paul Fix, who taught John Wayne--a lifelong friend--his famous and distinctive "rolling walk" when Wayne was starting out in the business. He wanted something to set him apart, so Fix suggested the rolling gait that became his trademark. Paul Fix played Micah Torrance, the Sheriff on "The Rifleman"

    • @Nowhereoh
      @Nowhereoh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eventsreview7119 Thanks for getting the story straight. I can't imagine Earp walking like that and not being laughed at. There is a vid of Fred Astaire at home in the 50's on that show where celebs
      are interviewed at home, where the John Wayne walk is mentioned. Maybe Fix + Astaire influence. Fred kills on his drumset . He was also a hunter. I bet he could shoot better too.
