    Some people are disappointed that the crash wasn't filmed in more detail, but it's important to remember that Diana's family is still alive and thinks of her every day, even years after her loss. It's admirable that Netflix chose to handle this respectfully, instead of showing it in a sensational way as some might have hoped. This scene is portrayed in a very respectful and emotional manner, making it heartbreaking to see how Diana spent her final minutes.

    As someone who was born after Diana's death, hearing the sound of the crash along with the horn as the screen turned black really just-... I can't even describe it. Knowing that those sounds were most likely the last sounds that Princess Di and everyone else in the car heard is just bone chilling... Heartbreaking...

      It’s in poor taste - and tacit victim blaming - to turn this tragedy into an oversimplistic and judgemental cautionary tale.
      Besides, if there are any real clear morals to be made of the whole thing, it’s don’t speed and don’t drive under the influence. But of course that’s a less convenient moral for people to take home, isn’t it, since so many people are tempted to and don’t like being called out on it, and since the driver of the car wasn’t nearly as memorable as the passengers, so placing the implied moral of the story on him doesn’t feel nearly as satisfying from a storytelling point of view. And that’s in part why making morals out of this story is in poor taste: it creates a conflict of interest between art and truth.

    Ngl for the most expensive show netflix has ever created, and for the most expensive episode of the entire series, I expected a more climatic and realistic version of the crash. I know they weren’t going into detail, but at least time the crash right - they were half way through the tunnel when they hit, this depiction suggests it crashed the moment it entered the tunnel- which it didn’t.

    • @deardiary8292

      I agree. You see more of the crash in the first scene of the first episode with the relentless onslaught of the paparazzi. However, this scene was so emotional. The buildup to crash was tearworthy why I think surpasses any financial expectations of the show.

    Though I do feel the crash was handled tastefully enough, I also feel it could've been better. The shot of Diana and Dodi's clasped hands should've been the final one of that scene, specifically the second interlinking of their fingers. It should've then been followed by a pause on that image, then a fade-over to the lights, coming on at Balmoral. Or, as the car drove towards the tunnel, there'd be that same fade-over. (11/19/2023)

      I wasn't born then (I was born in 2005), my mother was just waking up at 8 AM and when she wanted to go into the living room she saw my grandparents motionless in shock watching the TV with wide eyes and he asked them what happened. , and they didn't say anything, then when she entered the living room and saw with her own eyes, she was also in shock, and no one said anything for 10 minutes, everyone was just watching TV ...
      And one more thing, my mother's cousin (my grandmother's sister's daughter) gave birth on that day...August 31, 1997 and named her daughter Diana (and as an idea, my mother's cousin had not yet found out that Princess Diana had died! she only found out after a few hours! her daughter's name had nothing to do with Princess Diana, my mother's cousin was not thinking of her when he named her daughter, she had been planning this for months!!) so yes. ..fate is very strange sometimes!

      We can never know, but ask yourself this: Why did Diana and Dodi not just stay at the hotel the entire night? Why did Diana have no security? Why was the driver speeding? And why, like you ask, did she not wear her seatbelt? Its not just her not wearing a seatbelt that got her killed, though that was a big part of it. But we can never know, what would have happend, had she just stayed at her hotel that night

      People can still get killed in this kind of situation even with a seatbelt. My gut feeling is that in this instance, it wouldn’t have made any difference to outcome. The real moral of the story is to not drive under the influence.

    • @runeliza09
      @runeliza09 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@catherinespark. Actually, no, a seatbelt would have saved her life. Her not being restrained (by a seatbelt) caused her to be tossed about in the car and so mortally injured. She didn't put the belt on. Maybe she was distracted and forgot to, or, maybe she didn't wear seatbelts. Speeding and driving under the influence caused the crash: driver's responsibility. Not wearing the seatbelt: that was her's.
