The pride lion cannot run when challenged, because it would mean his cubs die and him living the rest of his life alone in shame. Challengers however can run and give up when the fight becomes too tough.
If male lion have male cub to protect they usually fight the intruder but if they don't have male cub they usually withdrawn without fight just like makulu & pretty boy they withdrawn without fight because they don't have male cub

I can watch lion videos for hours, too, in June 2021. Except for the innocent cub killings. And the fights between males that seriously injure other males. Yeah, I know, that's nature, but still

I've been there man, 13 years ago. The place is beautiful as paradise, and there are lions EVERYWHERE we saw whole packs of them resting together, the driver got the truck 4 meters away and they didn't budge! They sat quietly like a nice family and posed for a picture. :-)
the two new males are legendary Notch & his brother blondie. the brother died in a battle at young age. Notch on the other hand made history. he indeed is the grandfather of half of the lions of masai mara in 2017

The lion roraing at 2:24 will be the next Marsh Pride male and called NOTCH. He was with a collegue. In one of the las series, when Simon King starts the Big Cat Week, he told the audience that Notch was still in charge of the pride but his collegue was been killed few month ago by three male lions intruders.

That lioness walking on the path with her cubs was one of the most beautiful sights I've seen for a while. Makes it a bit depressing thinking that the once most profilic mammal species on the planet is on its way becoming endangered.

That was Notch when he was younger and his brother . Notch was the lion with the shorter mane his brother was killed maybe a year later. Notch is still going strong today at almost 14 years old he still with his 4 son's and they have lots of sub adult males in at least 3 other prides and many cubs too Notch has 8 more son's and grandson's that are almost 4 years old they will rule

As much as I love lions the takeovers and killing cubs and each other I hate.
In this case that didnt happen, simba held the pride for another year before notch and his Bussy took over the pride by that time the cubs were teens and could fend for themselves

Yea I agree,I wish there was some other way to have it happen but I guess it is the only way to keep the top genes in the mix.Not pleasant at all though,especially the cubs being killed.

It wasn't like lions killing cubs but a single Mom didn't have much of a chance finding a new man that would support another man's children and guess what? That trend is returning as well. Let the father feed his own kids and not make any more.

Question: Why are the lions not attacking the human? I've been watching animal documentaries and it astonishes me how these footages are taken. I'm really curious, why are they not attacking?
They do at times. I think most eventually get used to humans. As they probably know from experience that humans are dangerous. Since some have a gun in the background. Like elephants, unless desperate lions tend to stay away from elephants and hunt smaller and easier prey. Personal experience of fear, am guessing.

Human takeovers are much worse and bloodier if you asked me. And senseless. Lion killing cubs makes perfect sense.
More importantly: when a male lion is defeated by another lion that means that the pride will still have a leader to guide and protect them. When a male lion is killed by humans, the pride is left without the leader and it got disrupted (which generally means that many of them, most notably the children, will die). And especially: because humans tend to kill the strongest lions, only the weakest will survive with it's exactly the contrary of the way nature should be (the strongest survive so that the strongest genes are carried).
