  • Adding feathers and paint to some cardinals I recently carved! It was fun to experiment with textures and color combinations! Which cardinal do you like better, I would love to know!

    Hi...new subscriber here...also a 2 yr Carver from Alberta Canada. Good luck on your YT channel, I never had the guts to try one. Tools, tools , special tools for specific details that's the part that is the scariest part of carving. I'm impressed that you have a large variety of things that you do, that's what I did make ( and perfect more & more) as many different types and stances as you can... The learning curve for me has been incredible as I have never taken art before in my life and everything has been a opportunity learn, the hardest is knowing when enough is enough. Just from your faces I am assuming you have had a Art background. I wish you continued growth in not just your ability but channel as well.

      I’m actually a registered nurse that decided to give chainsaw carving a try…weird I know haha! Covid burnt me out so I’m carving cute animals instead! Always loved to doodle growing up though! The TH-cam channel was originally started to further push myself out of my comfort zone, Im not exactly the type of person that likes to put myself out there haha! But I have really enjoyed making these videos and will continue to do so as long as it’s fun and you all enjoy them 😊
      Yes lots and lots of tools, I started out with nothing but an electric chainsaw and have slowly built up a small collection throughout the past 6 months! Keep pushing yourself as well, and always feel free to ask questions!

      @@TayMarie23 that's kind of a bit of a coincidence we have . I got into this because I am an extremely rare cancer survivor, a form of adenocarcinoma did everything it was not supposed to do, and then couldn't get a job. So when covid hit I was out at a friend's cabin and what normally was jam packed full of people, I was there alone and to thank him for many years of allowing me to use his cabin I decided to try and carve him a fish ( Northern Pike)..... Took forever after presenting it to him the first next person who saw it said whoever gave it to him must really like him because it was probably worth$500 or more. That was the icing on the cake as I had already decided I had fallen in love with this new form of mental release in a physical sense. And have been doing it ever since, with many months off in the winter up here because of extreme cold and my lack of inside space to do this. But in that time I have learned many of the basics I never had and I do believe surviving has given me an ability that was never there before. I have done many different types, but is always the new ones they're really drive me. If you would like to see some ( Ruf Art by Tim , Edmonton, Alberta. Facebook)

      I agree that carving is a wonderful physical, mental, and even borderline spiritual release! It’s every I have needed in my life, I happy it has found you also 💛 Carve on brother!!!

    Nice job I like them both . The reason of the cracking on the bass wood is you used the heart of the tree in the carving . The moisture is trying to escape a natural occurrence in all types of trees. With the white pine you halved it so the moisture is more released 1/4 the log even better. . On a smaller log that you want to carve try drilling a hole up from the base of the carving through the center that way it can get air up into the carving and thus dry out with less cracking but hey it's still wood and it still might crack but less. Take care have fun carving and I hope this tip helps you

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you 😊 I have a big bear head in the works now and I hollowed out the center for all the reasons you said above! I’m planning on keeping the cracked boy because I like him so much, there really are times where the cracks just work and further emphasized the beautiful material used…wood! ☺️

    • @mylesmclean7121
      @mylesmclean7121 ปีที่แล้ว

      I absolutely agree with you I think a lot of the times the crack adds character to the carving. My recommendation is with your clients is be up front and tell them that almost all of the carvings will crack on bears I generally put a relief cut down the back of the bear and at the shoulders do a plung cut up into the head and this seems to work out well for the cracking. Also I have a 16 inch augar bit and drill into the top of the head down ànd then fill up the drilled hole with antifreeze. It has the same chemical that wood wood turners use to stabilize wood in wood turning. Just for your info

    hey just wondering what you think if the WEN finger sander, its next on my list for tools but I see a lot of people buy the makita. However the price of the makita is out of my range.... love your channel!

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aww I appreciate that! I actually have the Bauer finger sander from Harbor freight, was around $35. I would recommend that over Wen if you have a harbor freight available locally. The Bauer sander just has a more solid build. I’ll eventually get the Mikita but like you said, I’m not made of $$$ 😂

    What do you do or where can I find wood that is dry enough to wood carve with?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is an interesting topic! There is not a correct wood dryness for carving, it all depends on the carvers preference as well as the wood type. I personally like to carve green wood, it carves easier and is more gentle on your chain and other tools as well. When I get a batch of wood I usually let it sit for about 3 months while I finish up the last batch. I haven’t carved any hardwoods yet but I know people try to carve those as green as possible, otherwise you might as well be carving vertical cement haha!
      Traditional wood carving is green wood, so no need to wait! I get my wood from a variety of places - neighbors, recently downed trees I see and ask if I can chop and haul (usually mutually beneficial), local saw mills, tree clearing companies, and Facebook marketplace!

    • @daffyduck8244
      @daffyduck8244 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TayMarie23 Thank you for your quick response. But when I buy wood carvings it seems to may as though they've been dried as the wood is very lite weight. When I buy tree trunks they are very heavy. Again just wondering and needed your expertise

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course! I’m definitely not a expert so always do your own do diligence! The carvings you bought might have been carved dry, or they could have been carved green then put to the side to dry for a few months! The size of the carving will also determine dry times. Small, skinny tall, and even some medium carvings can dry pretty fast, sometimes too fast and you have to slow them down with oil and a cool shady spot! Larger carvings on the other hand can take months to years to dry!
      Some carvers carve green, then put their carvings to the side for months, then they repair any cracks before applying their finish and selling them!

    I like your channel, it's refreshing compared to the new norm. I think it's sad that if you recorded your videos with more skin showing, skimpy outfits, lots of cleavage/side boob etc, that you'd probably have 200K subs by now; It's great to see that you don't sell yourself out. I'm a man, I love a pretty girl, but I find it disgusting that there's a new trend of channels that purposely push the very limits of YT's acceptable nudity because it gets them tens of thousands of subs in a very short time and more views based on the thumbnail; I think it's morphed itself here from the recent surge of "Onlyfans". Here we have a smart, attractive girl that helps teach people how to do things themselves but her channel won't grow as quickly as all the sellouts channels do, that shouldn't be a part of the equation and I'm glad to see you're growing your channel organically...

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dayum thank you! It’s definitely been a grind…especially since the carving content takes weeks to make, so I can’t be the type of creator that releases videos every few days which has slowed growth. I actually started this channel as a DIY channel when I started fixing up one of the old houses we bought a year ago, but then I found carving and fell in love with it! So I’m just out here sharing my new passion ☺️
      But yes, I’m sure if I chainsaw carved in a bikini my channel would be doing better 😂 But that would just be weird, unsafe, and my neighbors would definitely think I’m crazy 🤣
