    When I first started trucking in 1970 I learned to drive in the coal mines of WVa, Kentucky, southern VA and every state that had a coal mine. I started out hauling coal out of the mines all over to companies that burned coal, power plants, schools etc. I drove a 671v hauling cinder blocks into the mines in all those mountains straight up an down around with 30 tons. Truck was an old GMC RTO13 Roadranger. I had traffic backed up every morning crossing Herndon Mt. If any my old buddies read this my Name is BLACKJACK. Every one knew me back then as I'm retired of 50yrs trucking. I would pull over at the top an let everyone go past me. The weaker Detroits are for the mountains. I graduated to a cornbinder 9000 maybe it was with 8v92. Wore my rt shoulder completely out. Anyway I'm sorry Im rambling I miss those days. In 50yrs I drove every truck, trailer made in all 48 states.

    When you can stand next to a 2 stroke v Detroit like that while it makes that kind of power, it’s one engine that the word animal adequately describes it

    Will try and get the pull down vid of this engine for you as l wasn’t in the shop when the vid was done for the snippet. The engine is for a Fox bliss pushback tractor which is Airbus A380 rated. They required hp upgrade in order to push the A380. Only 500hp was needed however we figured the plane might need a hand to take off also.

      Brad writes)however we figured the plane might need a hand to take off also. Joe writes) You mean like the 92 will sling shot the plane into the air? haha

      Dynamo Joe . Maybe a bit optimistic l know however Detroit muscle has a certain never say never attitude.

    Uhh....I love this engine. I wanna stuff it in a 78 KW I wanna buy. It looked like it did 649hp for 2 seconds (2105rpm / 1567 tq). This one come second place to that 800HP TT y'all did some years ago w/1829#'s @ 2298 rpms.

    Hey D Smith , I'm in the process of getting ready to rebuild a 8V92 . Is it possible to get the spec's on what you did to your 8V92 to get those kind of numbers . I was totally blown away , for a single turbo 8V92 to achieve those numbers and stay together . Great work guys

    • @dynosmith2187
      @dynosmith2187  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Sure. Not to much really but took us a long time to figure out. Will send through specs once l am back in shop. To start with you will require standard clean air kits .95 ports and standard ddec 2/3 cams with what l think is a j36 grind. 4775 injectors which is the most common. The real secret is in the engine number for the ecm mapping. Will get back to you.

      Ok. 08vf179158. Code your ecm to that number. Cal code injectors to their normal numbers. You don't need code 42 it will go well enough. Sorry for late reply.

      Those are some sweet numbers. Are you staying with the lower 17:1 compression that is the spec for turbocharged engines?

      @KBS117 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Contact any marine engine builder. 630 is low hp for a marine 8v92. I've seen 1100 on a dyno before for the marinee 8v92 twin turbo.

    Love my strokers. My first exposure was a Silver 92 back in the 80s as a kid, it was in a Kenworth K100E with an Allison behind it. How is the fuel consumption with this engine as modified?

    Sweet-sounding diesel sounds like a mutant jet engine that rumbles at idle and screams shrilly under load..
    Sadly , California refused to renew trucks registrations with this engine when they introduced CARB, instantly banning it from road use. If this had an intercooler and Propane injection, the peak power could exceed 800 HP.

    • @andrewking4885
      @andrewking4885 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I remember that. 1987 was the year banned in CA emissions. I'm from Australia and things are getting strict over here too. 🐈 CAT gave up trying to deal with it.

    What's really funny, that kind of HP and torque at less than 3000 rpm and it sounds like it wants to fly apart but will run all day like that.
    My old man told me (a long time GM diesel driver) the definition of a Detroit Diesel was a device that turned perfectly servicable diesel fuel, into smoke and noise. I would disagree with him...especially with the 53 series.

      1500 ft/lb was moving 100, 000 pounds with ease 40 years ago. And of course you cum-a-part boys want to compare your 900+ cubic inch $60,000+ engines to an old $20,000 engine with 736 cubic inches.
      That old 736 cubic inch Detroit has already driven more miles than your cum-a-part ever will. And that old Detroit is making that power with an ancient design turbo, and without an external air to air intercooler. Everything about it was designed 35-40 years ago.
      You scatterpillar and cum-a-part boys always crack me up.
