  • I review an almost new Taurus G3C and immediately experience the failure to feed issue. I am asking for your all insights on this issue. I have faith in this company that this is actually a great pistol.

    I’ve never had an issue with my G3 or G3C. I know several people with well over 5-10,000 rounds with no issues. All firearm manufacturers sell lemons. I’ve seen guns double the price with issues too

      I just purchased mine new on Black Friday and the first round in the chamber didn’t feed right. I’ve had 1 mag feed all the rounds perfectly out of 20 or so I’ve tried. I’ve heard people say maybe it needs “broken” in but I’ve never had any firearm that needs broken in.

      My G3 has been to warranty twice. It jams on certain HP
      Ammo, has a castastrophic failure shooting +P ammo.
      I don’t recommend it as an EDC. I don’t trust Taurus as a brand. Too many horror stories, plus my own personal experiences.
      If you have one, test a box of your carry ammo on it; and avoid +P ammo.

      @@n721sw yeah that's a possibility or the ammo. We took ours straight out on the days we bought each of ours and no joke, we've never had issues and like I said, we shoot guns a lot. I had 2 g3c pistols. Mine which was the same color pattern as the one you have there. It had failure to feed and eject issues up to about 300 rounds and then became flawless after that. My wife’s worked flawlessly out of the box. 115g magtech and 115 s&b and 124 grain freedom munitions, and a few other brands. Mine didn’t care it was jamming constantly but hers would just eat anything we fed it. From what I have gathered it is a normal thing for them to have troubles in the early days of the weapons. I have since moved on to Sig, Glock, and Psa. With all 3 of those brands, not a single failure and we shoot about 500 rounds every other weekend.

    My G2c out of the box was stiff and aluminum casing shells and one or two inexpensive brands had load issues until I did a thorough clean and particularly the rail grooves in the polymer handle. Also, the slide which guides the shell into place should be polished and cleaned. Additionally, the mags are incredible stiff and will loosen and feed better with use.

    I handload. My G3c does require many hollow points to be loaded shorter or it would fail to go into battery (less than 1.07" for Gold Dot style HP). XTP type rounds are more tapered and feed fine out to the max length for 9mm. I conclude it is likely finicky with some fsctory defense loads. You just have to find the right cartridge. Polishing feed ramp also helps.

      Ironically, this is what I would run when I was having issues chambering more open top shaped hollow points like Federal HST/Punch early on with my gun. After like 200 rounds of FMJ it became consistent with chambering all hollow points. I have nearly 1000 through it by now and it runs like a top. Easily my most reliable gun now.

  • @1jimmarch
    @1jimmarch 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Okay, here's why this is happening.
    Taurus coats the inside of this gun with something a lot like cosmoline. It's not like the thick gunk you find an old Russian military surplus rifles, but it's there, it's sticky and it's not a lubricant.
    These have about a 300 round breakin period while you burn that crap off, or you can get smart with a rag and a bottle of hoppe's number 9. You then properly lubricate it if it becomes on par with Glock reliability, unless it's one of the rare actual birth defect cases that Taurus can put out once in a while.

    My G2c and G3c's both have yet to have even a single malfunction. My G3 full size however had trouble right out of the gate loading hollow points. I noticed the feed ramp was much thicker on the sides than the feed ramps on the barrels of the G2c and the G3c. Afraid to test Taurus's customer service I bit the bullet (no pun intended) and bought a new barrel from Taurus's site for the G3 and like magic I had a dependable gun that I now love. All manufacturers have duds here and there. Hope your buddy gets his G3c working well because I love mine.

    Let's clear this up. 1, the G3C is 3 years old not 1. 2, If your resting the thumb of your gun hand on the manual safety, make sure it's not contacting the slide and interfering with the movement of the slide as that can cause a FTF. 3, blaming the firearm for shooter issues is not how to review a firearm. Identifying your issues before blaming the firearm would be more productive. 4, the Taurus pistols are not fans of steel or aluminum cased ammo. I run CCI Blazer Brass FMJ in varying grain weights, and no issues. My defense loads are the Barnes TAC XPD 115 grain +P.

    The magazines in the G2c/3c pistols are a bit loose. I have found that if you squeeze the pinky around the grip extension on the bottom of the mag it can cause a miss feed. Based off of your serial number I would say it’s a barrel problem. Take the barrel out then put a round in it and flip it over. If it doesn’t pop out then you know why you’re having problems. So to further explain, your round is getting stuck in the chamber and making it hard to extract this causing a short stroke situation causing the slide not to move forward fast enough.

    I've run hundreds of rounds through mine and the last time I went out I had the same thing happen twice. Before that it was flawless. I love the feel, weight, accuracy, trigger, sights etc. I do think it may be a bit of a magazine issue after watching this. One of the 3 mags felt a little extra "springy/loose" and looking back I'm wondering it that was the issue. I thought it was an ammo issue. I'm going to give it another whirl next time out and really pay attention. I really love this liitle gun but after the last two jams I couldn't faithfully trust my life with it. Maybe it needs more break-in. Thanks for the video.

    If I load a round in the chamber through the eject port, my slide will also not close all the way. It will also jam on the feed ramp sometimes when I rack the slide, yet I've never had a jam while firing. What I believe is happening has something to do with the angle of the barrel as it moves around. Some people think it's the magazine, which could also play a role as the magazine sits with a little wiggle in the well. I did recently polish my feed ramp but I don't think it really did much. What really needs to change is the angle of the ramp itself, but I don't want to mess with sanding down my only barrel. It only needs a paper thin amount of sanding, so gentle hands and good eyesight is recommended if you do. I still have to shoot mine some more just to see how it runs after some more rounds. My G3c also needed a lot of oil. It was real dry from the factory, probably from sitting in the box for so long.

  • @eze008
    @eze008 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    My theory for that slide to not reset all the way back in is due to the connecting of the rear end of the barrel against the wall where the firing pin exits. Rack it slowly (no bullets) and you will see how tight it fits to complete the slide reset. The back end of the barrel has to wear down by breaking in. Possibly not oiled, not yet broken plus heat expansion from firing, this may happen with some new Tauruses. I would think that polishing that rear connecting end of the barrel would bypass the breakin point.

      I have 1 round through my G3C and this failure of the slide to fully return issue happened to me. It comes to rest about a 16th of an inch short and will not fire- for that matter it doesn't like to clear that round either. Very scetchy to clear. I have not been able to get another round through the pistol. Same problem . Am using 124gr Sigman rounds. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
      P.S. I've upgraded barrel and recoil spring to the Lakeside units. Didn't help issue

      @@rileymanderscheid9805 I could not find anything on 124 grain Sigman rounds. I was curious to see if the round was a hollow point. Also when it stops at that 16 of an inch is that when the back of the barrel touches the fireing pin area of the slide? I would love to know the results when testing with another slide. If the issue is still there then we can further guess its in the rails of the system. If this is a new gun rack it manually about a hundred times and observe where it is the wearing areas when it hits that 16th of an inch moment. Just to get more clues. My answer would be to polish those areas.
