- Part 2 here we go!!! One of the best pieces of television I may have ever witnessed???? Also the most anxiety inducing :) I beg y'all not to come running at Richie's defense as if I'm supposed to know his entire backstory at this point - let me eat my words when the time comes!! Captain of the Sydney defense squad, as well. She had a right to explode! Let women be pissed!!

I am so glad you made the point about giving the characters grace, all of them! Because if people can like Richie for his faults, they should be able to do the same for Syd
As a fellow sydney stan, I fully stand by her wrongs. She's taken so much shit from richie since ep 1 but always managed to keep things cordial. Her finally snapping was inevitable (she might have taken it too far but oh well.) Everyone played a part in the shitstorm that was ep 7 so I think it fair if we just clear everybody's slate (except for Tina, she's perfect.) Glad you're enjoying the show and yes, thats family.
Both Carmy & Richie kept poking at her in ep 7. Carmy couldn't let her mistake go & he NEVER backed her up. He never checks Richie. Richie spent all season undermining her & sexually harassing her. Then when she does something wrong, she's getting berated by Carmy? She was bound to go off.
this what people forget, taken over the entire season, Rich has been absolutely coming for Syd and this is frankly a tying point. I also really love Rich, I think he livens every scene hes in, that said I think people are quick to criticize her when she is doing so so much and sacrificing to be at carmy's restaurant. That said she did majorly mess up and should have apologized.
I certainly understand the comments focusing on episode 7 for a multitude of reasons. But that monologue Jeremy Allen White delivers in episode 8 deserves a little more recognition.

Thank you for recognizing that EVERYONE did something wrong in episode 7 because they're just people. Richie was throwing jabs at Syd from day 1, but saying "are you blowing somebody down at the Telegraph" is straight up sexual harassment.
Sydney crossed the line by going for Richie's daughter; it's one thing to react to somebody giving you shit, it's another to lash out and talk shit about them, but going for the kid is a third, completely different thing.
Marcus wasn't doing anything out of malice, but he locked in on the completely wrong thing. During busy service you're supposed to keep your head down and do whatever chef tells you to do, it's not the time to be creative, hell it's not even the time to talk to your coworkers. And walking out mid-service without a word is not cool.
I still place the most blame on Carmy, however. He's supposed to be the head chef, aka the leader. He piled responsibilities on Syd throughout the entire season and didn't listen to her feedback. He said he was cool with Syd's risotto, then brought it back up to yell at her when he got stressed. He slapped Marcus, admittedly he was going for the donut, and he grabbed him by the collar. That is getting physical. So yeah, while everyone fucked up one way or another, Carm was the worst of the lot.
Carmy actually told her that the dish wasn’t ready yet & she served it to a customer anyway, so that’s not on him.
He should’ve been more adamant about it not being a good time to start the to-go orders not though, so that is on him.
@@Keesha_Hardy After Ebra reads the piece, Sydney apologizes to Carmy, and Carmy replies it's ok and that it's good for business. After that the matter should've been put to rest, but then he brings it back up to berate her. Either you're cool with something or you're not, but you gotta make up your mind, which he didn't.
Richie has done so much worse but doesn't get anywhere near the same pushback Sydney does. (it's racism & sexism) If people can like Richie for his faults, they should be able to do the same for her when she wasn't even bad! Richie was the problem! IDC about her actions in episode 7 when Richie had been sexually harassing her all season. She didn't handle the pressure well. Neither did Carmy or Richie. Richie with how he kept harassing her & being useless. Carmy as the boss, doesn't have a handle on Richie. When Carmy starts yelling at her, she's gonna continue that & she starts yelling at others.

Everyone was at fault one way or another this episode, except for Tina, Gary, and Fak. Sydney being at the top of the list. But Carmy’s the worst out of everyone under pressure by far.
Lin Brehmer was the morning host for our local rock station for decades, and he'd always say stuff like that, that he was our best friend in the whole world. And in a way, he was. It is bittersweet for us to hear his voice in that intro, since he died shortly after that was filmed. WXRT was the station that would play stuff like Sufjan Stevens ; )
Also, the live version of the Wilco song builds and ends along with the end of the episode, and the audience applause and cheering goes on during the credits, as if they were applauding that awesome effort of the cast and crew.

I think the Michael element makes people give grace to the other characters in a way they don't do for Syd (and obviously people are terrible and sexist and racist). I think Carmy put way too much on her shoulder throughout the season but at times, like ep 7, she's impacient and trying to hard to get to the way she wants things. Ep. 7 was a culmination of the raising tensions from previous episodes, but in this instance I think Carmy was trying to keep it cool and sh** pillled up. Sydney is absolutely one of the best characters of the show, but I don't think season one gave her much chance to grow as it did to other characters.

Looking forward to this video and season 2. Recommend splitting up season 2 into 3 vids. 1-4, 5-7, and 8-10. Think that’ll work best IMO.

Also I completely agree with you!! Marcus was disrespected a lil bit but he REALLY should’ve been doing his job and not acted like a lil baby! And that’s actually such a good point, people did hate Sydney so much compared to every other sh*tty character, at the time at least!

The comment about his kid was deserved in my opinion because he went after the one thing she has so she did the exact same thing after taking his shit all season. They were all equally assholes here and yet people are quick to jump on Sydney and it’s obvious why

I think we can all agree Syd was WRONG for bringing up Richies kid like that. Which is not to say that he doesn’t deserve to get taken down a leg or two or three but…wow.

Sydney should never have given the dish to the customer. And getting a good review isn't validation. She's an amazing character and is definitely redeemable, but she was completely in the wrong in episodes 6 & 7.

Sydney was 1000% wrong. You can't go behind your bosses back and backstab him like that. Neither can you have cooks give out leftover dishes to customers. Can you imagine it happening in Gordon Ramsay's restaurant? Some cook thinking their dish is better, forcing Gordon to put it on the menu and then scheming like this?
