Both are over and therefore the same. But… to me, that is way different. LTIR is meant for people with hurt players to still be able to play a NHL level team. I know I'm a little late here but if you want a (completely amatuer and not trustworthy) scouting report on Edstrom.
He plays for my team here in Sweden, and I followed him closely during the juniors.
As of the last couple of games in the SHL, he has been slotted in as the first line center for Frölunda. He has gone from looking like a decent two way center (which I feel confident he will be even in the worst case scenario) to a guy that can help run the offense of a top line in one of the most defense focused leagues in the world. He has completely played up to the talent he's been put with, and he looks very comfortable.
Like I said, he also has a solid 2-way game, especially for his age, and he plays the PK here in Sweden and doesn't really stand out one way or another (I assume it will take some time before he gets trusted with that in the show).
He does struggle with physicality, which is common for young players in the SHL, since it's not a big part of junior play here. But he is rather large, carrier himself well, and is a good skater, so I have faith that he will be able to at least handle the physical aspects after a couple of months in the show (I wouldn't be surprised to see him embrace it either).
He seems to be getting a long great in the locker room, and from what I've heard, he has no issue talking to media and helped take on the "media role" for the world juniors team this year.
Also, if any higher-ups in the sharks read this. Vegas pwomised us we could keep him next year and I would be vewy angwy with you if you called him over and he didn't get one more year with Fwölunda >:(

9:50 no there wont. there is 0 requirement to take a player off LTIR when they are healthy. only needs to come off to play. only a requirement that the player actually be injured to go on LTIR.
i think CJ has said that when stopping LTIR gaming has come up at gm's meetings its been shut down pretty quick.

Man some people are really mad that most of the other owners in the league are just too dumb to figure out how to navigate the cap (or are too cheap to pay good front office personnel that know how to do it). Teams like the Coyotes intentionally choose to use the LTIR just to get to the salary cap FLOOR every year and not actually field a competitive NHL roster. Oh btw, every team's owner and NHLPA rep had a chance to stop this loophole in the CBA... and chose not to. And as they showed, Vegas isn't even spending as much as 3 (now capgeek shows only 2) other teams.

the NHL needs to put a stop to teams loading up LTIR until the playoffs... a team should be cap compliant in the playoffs... how fair is it for a team with $100million in payroll vs a team who has a $70million payroll? there should be a salary cap in the playoffs of 10% higher than the season salary cap.... Tampa Bay did it one year when Kucherov sat almost the whole season, came off LTIR game 1 of the playoffs and TB won the cup, and Vegas did it just last year... chances are they both would not have won if there was a postseason salary cap, just saying!!

Their core guys are already approaching their mid 30's and the drop off is coming. When this team is in the bottom of the standings, will they have die hard fans to support them? The NFL is already there, MLB and thr NBA aren't far behind them. If there fan base dies out its bad for the NHL.

...This is a trade I INTENSELY dislike... I get he's in his prime but he's a cornerstone, and he's in on an 8 year deal the last big one of Doug Wilson's tenure as GM. This is a guy I felt who could build leadership around, and could have been wearing the C next season if Grier was going to look to move Couture. Do I think Gary will seriously start cracking on injured cap? Likely not now, but this is a crap return for the Sharks, and Grier imo pulled the trigger a season early.
