Agreed! I sometimes feel sketchy telling someone they have to bring their home/vent up to code… But honestly, you’re absolutely correct… I appreciate you!

I had one of those at my last house. Worked fine. Key point was that it blocked off the outside air more completely than a conventional damper. Yeah you gotta keep it clean but you have to clean any vent cap. I was in a cold climate and the cut 9ff of the outside air drating through the dryer was important. And i had a bad rodent infestation issue (squirrels and field mice) and i felt it provided a better blockage to the critters. I did have a short duct run so the total flow resistance wasn't too bad. For a long run this design may be more problematic

Great info and thanks for your personal experience! Most folks aren't doing their job then, HAHAHAHAHA! Honestly, still not a fan however the squirrel or chipmunk application is intriguing... Appreciate your thoughts!

I dont understand how this design can be successful. Im sure they are terrible about holding moisture and lint. Good reason to be outdated.

I wish everyone did! I think a lot of people just don't realize that belongs to their dryer vent system. It is pretty odd looking... I guess if properly maintained, they can work as good as others, but I don't often come across ones that are kept up with... Thanks for watching as well as your comment!!!

Do not use an air compressor to clean the dryer vents

Say that LOUDER for the folks in the back!!!!! It blows ducts apart! I know a company that use to use them intentionally so it WOULD blow the duct so they could charge the homeowner to cut into the walls and "repair" the blown duct! I appreciate you watching as well as your comment!!!

Also, I really don't understand why the homeowner didn't want to change to the correct damper... I even discounted the new one by almost 40% and she still wasn't interested. I tried explaining that the current one will require maintaince every 60 days at most however I already know they won't remember.... Oh well, I'm sure I'll be seeing them again soon! Thx again Bob!!!
