What a tremendous group! All these guys can sing dance with the best of them. I wonder if any of the members sang with other groups before and after The Ambassadors?
The two groups of brothers hooked up early in late 50’s, same competitive era/hood’ as McFadden, Whitehead,, Lloyd Parks (Epsilon’s). The Todd brothers (Calvin on leads here) and Bobby went on to form Creme de la Creme in 70’s. They are criminally underrated within music history.
Let's also remember, by the late 60s, Motown had a certain direction for the Temptations, therefore their choreography would be influenced. They were aiming at elite supper clubs, and crossover audience venues. They obviously trimmed down some of the raw "stepping" energy of their younger days. Even the music focus shifted. Though they set the standard, due to crossover aspirations, they were no longer among the same fraternity as The Spinners, Blue Magic, The Stylistics, The Ojays, The Delfonics etc...Do you understand what I'm saying. I do think Motown missed out on that market. It's as if, once the Tempts ascended to that level of success, they could not go back. It's sort of like when Michael Jackson became the King Of Pop. He made history, as he should have, but he also had to somewhat abandon his R&B roots of his early days, when he could just blow any singer of the day out of the water. It was in his DNA. In later years, we would only catch rare glimpses of it, depending on who the producer was. He pretty much left those days behind on the "Thriller" album. 'Nuff said. Ciao!
@@bobbye.wright4424 Are you referring to Michael Jackson vs vocal grpup The Moments? I wat to make sure that we're commenting on the same conversation. He set the standard, influenced, and inspired a whole generation of high falsetto tenors. However, within just three yeats of leaving the Temps in the early 1970s, his voice began to decline, showing the effects of chain smoking, and poor vocal care.
