A complete replacement rubber kit can be purchased on Ebay for about US$10, and the hinge pin can be replaced by a cut down 16 guage panel nail from any hardware store (US$1 for pack of 50 ... ~2c each). If you do that you now have STEEL hinges that WON'T BREAK.
I bought my first pair of M Frames in 1993, but I returned them in a couple of days. I bought them to wear as casual sunglasses and they weren't comfortable for that purpose. I stayed with the pair of RayBans I had. Over the rest of the decade, I bought several now-defunct brands of sunglasses for sport purposes, all cheaper than the Oakleys, but none lasted very long. In 2000, I again bought the M Frames, this time to wear primarily mountain bike riding and have had them and worn them since. I've added a clear untinted lens for shooting, yard, and wood working. The fit is still tight but I only wear them for sport or work-type activities and never longer than an hour or so, taking them off frequently. I don't know what version I have, but I have to say they've held up well. I haven't taken the clear lens off in over a decade as I've moved on to the Jacket line (I now wear Maui Jims for casual/driving). Last year I bought another lower end Jacket pair (I don't recall the exact name) to throw in a go/travel backpack so I don't have to worry about taking my other Jackets. They'll always be there. Anyway, the M Frames have more than served me well. I should have kept the '93 version for sport and not bothered with the other ones I bought and discarded.
The oils from your sweat will cause the film to ripple and peel. That shit happen on my “Spy” brand sunglasses as well. So far “VonZipper” lenses and frames have not done that.
Oakley's manufacturing processes have really declined over the past decade or so (since Luxotica took over.) I have a pair of M Frames from 1999 or 2000 that are still in great condition. They used to use a metal pin for the hinge back then, not a plastic one.
I just ordered a new pair. I’m just used to it now. To many deployments. Always had them. Destroyed them.. got another set. I don’t switch watches either. Tissot. Same watch since 2003. Bad mother fucker. Sometimes i thought it was dead… but nope. The next day. Working. My 2 Iraq must haves.
Cause you gotta flex on the poors haha. I got both the Radar EV Path Grey/Polarized and i just recently received my Matte Black/Black Prizm Iridium Gascan. So technically I'm flexing on myself now.
I got 7 pairs of Oakley sunglasses I love the all day comfort and the lenses are amazing. As far as the lenses peeling I mean after 3 years of use what do you expect nothing last forever. Just buy new lenses and your good for a other 3 years.
You guys got them for 130$, I bought mine for 142$ lmao ,there's also a big problem with the shipping and DHL was asking me to pay another 80$ so I pretty much told them to eat shit.
Great to see a field tested review, thanks for posting this.

I've had oakley m2 frames for 4 years, mainly use them for airsoft, never had any issue with any part of the glasses, still hold up just like new

That makes sense, but man do the Oakleys peel significantly
