No matter how good the car is, if you flip/crash etc you’ll be able to beat them! All about consistency, you should have easily won that race. Awesome to see “old geometry” still works fine, as long as you can keep the tires on the ground lol. I’m more impressed the brushed setup can keep up actually, that’s cool.
I ran a B4 last week against newer faster cars. Qualified 6th in C. Held 1st for most of the race then 2nd for the last few laps. The pace of the car often doesn't matter if the other cars keep walloping each other
Yeahh man your right, im also impressed with mine brushed that i drive at the track. I oil the bearings on the motor.... imagine if yu upgrade the differential, etc
I raced a gold pan rc10 back in the 80s and the bandit is similar in design I can see why it does good but was supprised how well it did against the new cars. Great videos I really enjoyed watching 👍 thanks.
my old RC10 is Andy's everything so no replacement parts at all really. everyone copied that geometry because it works so well. I'm not a Traxxas fanboy BUT if you need parts you get them within days by mail or today if there's a nearby hobby shop. set up right a Bandit drives with the same familiar good feel.
good to see that more people are going to bigdog rc. i raced there when they first opened before i moved back to florida. i still remember that place being a ford dearlership and grew up riding bicycles around there before i moved to fl when i was 16
I’m surprised the Bandit can still keep up with those competition buggies. I mean, Traxxas did use to race back in the day and they used to be competitive too.
i have a traxxas slash 2wd, my parents got for me. It’s great i’ve had it for 4 or 5 years. Its just now starting to break. I got my self a traxxas bandit vxl, the fast one. it’s a pain.
Do it boss. I took about 7 years off from rc. Bought a mini b recently as I had/have the original mini t. Had so much fun at the track I bought nice radio and a tlr 5.0 two days later. Can’t tell you how good it feels to be back playing with toy cars. Get your buddies into it or back into as well. Got a few of my work friends to buy 2wd rustlers definitely will be sending this video them to show them you can still put it down with a Traxxas. Would love to see rc racing grow more!
I have a back yard track which I use my bandit on, the titan is long dead now it’s brushless. For how rough my track is the bandit is perfect for it.I also changed my body to a j concept body and put a bunch of rpm products on it. This is a pretty cool series that I’m going to follow. Thanks
I came across your video this morning and it’s on repeat. Haha good stuff Brotha. I bought my son a bandit for Christmas. Looking at your video, it would be nice to list all of the upgrades in your description. I’m hooked on those yellow wheels. I will be patiently waiting for the next video 🤙🏽
The bandit's definitely not the worst car out there. It's an outdated platform and I'm definitely not a fan of the company that makes it for business-related reasons, but it's still a respectable car with the right gear and setup. People used to run JATOs and Nitro Rustlers in the 1/10th Nitro Truck class and they were fully competitive with the Factory Team RC10GTs and GT2s and the Adam Drake Edition XXX-NTs. In fact I'm pretty sure the last RCPro Gas Truck Nats (Or was it the ROAR nats? I know it was one of the two) before the class died was won by a JATO.
Thank you! Ive always wondered how a Bandit would perform with some mods and tweaks. I nearly got a roller Bandit last year for cheap, but wasn't fast enough to lay the money down. After seeing this, I wished Id gotten it. Look forward to next episode to see what happens.
Possibly a ball diff kit? Also strc made a top shaft for these things were you could run an ae slipper. 5x8 bearing in steering may help slower speed, would definitely eliminate added drag. I like your concept here. Very nice man.
put "star" washers (a type of lock washer) under the motor screws. Your spur gears will last much longer. And you can use a large pinion (28 -to 30) with a small spur gear (64 tooth) with your 17.5. They don't have great RPM, but they are torque monsters.
That was really cool. I like how your mates are joining in. I was once told the reason that people don't race older buggies isn't because of poorer performance so much as inability to get spares.
That's why Traxxas is great for hobby shops and hobby racers. There will always be parts for the Bandit, Rustler and Stampede as they have been around since 1994-95.
2:03 yea I made a mid motor rustler In the stock stadium truck class was in second place for a while ended up getting rear ended and chassis snapped in half near the motor mount screws. 😢
Traxxas big bore shocks always had a reputation of being the smoothest in the industry even after they abandoned the race scene. Would be a good next upgrade.
Hello Happy new year iam a new subscriber I love your videos. Good job with thr bandit she runs good and handles. Well. Thanks your friendly neighborhood Doorman william from NYC forgettaboutit 👊 😀
A couple of things the 12 turn when it gets hot slows down. Also the 12 turn is heavy and makes the rear a little more like a pendulum. Throw in a lighter motor and you will pick up a good bit. Also you are losing the car on the end of the straight due to no limiters. Put 2mm limiters in the shocks and that will cure the problem. The rear proline hub is the next key. Shorten the rear link and you will get the rotation you want. As for the diff just take the grease out, nothing else needed unless you want to throw something like 1000 or maybe 2000wt oil to keep some inside tire ballooning down.
Solder on that busted motor is the worst looking solder job ever. Otherwise super fun amazing video… love the bandits going racing vs are and X-ray and tlr
This is cool! Also I recommend considering the STRC motor heatsink plate. It sits between the motor and inside mounting area. It helps with heat dissipation, greatly reducing motor flex (plastic around the motor gets soft) and you can really tighten the motor screws down. It’s pretty cheap like $10
Traxxas had a competition grade buggy before the Bandit. It was called the TRX3/TCP (this had optional parts). It’s lighter, has better steering, and even suspension tuning like rear toe and squat.
The bandit is essentially a TCP adapted for mass production. Although there is little to no parts compatibility I think they retained a lot of the geometry. I find it no surprise it is holding its own here in this series.
@@ckcoolic the only thing the tcp shares with the bandit is the rear a-arms and driveshafts. The bandit is just a buggy version of the rustler. The bandit has a longer wheelbase, wider front track (not even race legal) and lacks any suspension tuning. The tcp has 2 front a-arm options, 2 steering block options, caster block options, front and rear suspension adjustments, rear squat adjustments, rear toe adjustment, etc. Only thing the tcp and bandit share is that they’re buggies. There is 1 Traxxas buggy that’s based on the TCP and it’s wasn’t even sold under the Traxxas name. It’s the Graupner radicator 2. Has the tcp front end, street sport chassis and bandit rear/transmission.
@@romper4444 that’s bc the nitro stampede (and all 2wd Traxxas nitros) are based off the Traxxas SRT which was a competition grade 2wd electric truck from 1994. Most Traxxas race kits used the same rear a-arm mounts and general rear suspension design since the TRX1 buggy and blue eagle LS.
@@lastpally well aware the bandit and tcp share little in the way of parts as I started such. Bandit also lacks the adjustability being entry level. You can’t deny the lineage though. Traxxas’s base design philosophy was a winner.
Because of this series my son and I are running Bandits in our club spec 21.5 this year. We finished 1st and 2nd in points for our parking lot series over the summer so we'll see how they do on carpet next (mine is pretty upgraded for it already) What music is that? I've looked everywhere and can't find it. It gets stuck in my head bad 😒
Hey dude what tires/wheels can you suggest for me to run on a right turn cul de sac track, half size pretty tight. I'll be running a bandit and I want it to rip! Also Im looking for a sale on a brushed bandit hah they just went up by 20 on amazon :/
It would be awesome to add some rpm arms and a few companies make awesome axles for the bandit because of drag racing I think exotek makes some and the biggest weak spot in the trans is the topshaft the pin that goes through it shears if you have a good 13.5 and grip itll shear fastlane machine makes a 1 piece topshaft and hot racing makes a sealed diff in a buggy the sealed diff and fastlane topshaft is the best setup and it's way cheaper than a proline trans there's a few companies that make carbon shock towers since the stock front is way to flexible with the built trans and a good front tower I think it would be the difference between second and first
I like the bandit series but your volume levels are all over the place. when you are talking its way low then music starts playing and its way to high of volume.
Nice driving skills 👍🏻 You can have the best of the best RC but if you don't understand throttle control and breaking in the corners you're not going to do very well. Bandit seems to handle pretty dang good especially for the price. 👍🏻
I think the appeal of these videos is not upgrading it. Leave the brushed! Just upgrade the servo, make it tougher where you can and change the body. I would get like a 13 turn triple wind Brushed motor and a good ESC for it. Years ago, we tried to get a vintage class going at our local track. I got my old Stealth Gold pan all setup raced it a few times but the class died out. No one wanted to run brushed or 25 turn brushless motors. The younger generation didn't understand that it was supposed to be a fun class not not an ultra competitive one. Same thing with the box stock classes. Before you knew it, people were running different shocks, crazy brushless motor setups and wild tire combos. Our box stock class vehicle was the SC10 RTR. They took the fun out of it.
Great content! Can't believe the Bandit is doing so well! The switch from quiet chatting to metal music is rough on the ears, maybe just skip the music?
Dude I really like your content "BUT" please match up your audio levels between music and dialogue. Either the dialogue is way low or dare I say the music is too loud. Just FYI. Rock on!
Enjoyed the Bandit series, I race an old school Associated B4 against newer stuff and do OK at the club level. No need to spend large sums to have fun at the RC track! Aside: the audio editing is really painful. Loud music and then can barely hear your voice. Would definitely watch your content more, but I can't be constantly adjusting my speakers.
Yo Mx Acres, thank you for the great video content. I'd like to share a Bandit and Rustler build I did a few years ago, but need the time to get it done. Perhaps I can email you some pictures/descriptions?
Hang on a second...did the best racers at this event all decide to run Bandits? I mean OK that was entertaining but seems like we need to see the Bandit vs the better drivers racing their higher-end RCs.

Start with a 2wd xl-5 that would be cool
I had a bandit back in the early 2000's,back when mechanical speed control was still a thing, anyways I remember being able to get a ball diff for it.
