So, in the first project, the motor keeps on while in 'lock' position, draining the battery quicker and eventually unlocks itself by the spring tension when the battery dies.

Why the name change?
the motor will hot and blow out because there not switch that stop the motor after it pushing the lock and just stuck there draining the battery ...

If you try to make this for real that you need to add backup power

For those who want to be able to re enter their house, these projects has a lot of problems, specially the first (I didn't watch any more) in closed position the motor is powered all the time = bye bye motor and or bye bye battery = you are fucked...
