About that big piece of wood. I had mine removed. My friend reduced its thickness, painted it to match, and with construction adhesive, clamped it to the end of one cabinet door. Ah, what difference! I can see everything without the obstruction.

I like the wallpaper. I did something similar but instead of wrestling with smoothing it out inside the cabinet, I cut-to-size foamboard and smoothed the wallpaper on it. Then I slipped it into the cabinet. YOU WILL need to leave about 2-inches of the sticky paper for sticking onto the wall. OR, you can use clear packing tape along the edges to adhere to surface. If you ever want to switch out the paper, pull out the foamboard and repeat the process with new paper. So much easier.
