If you wanna play DS games and don't really care about 3DS games, The DSi XL is the way to go in my opinion because of the dual IPS displays which are bigger and retain the pixel density of the original system. Which makes for a crisper image over using a 3DS/2DS that upscales the image and makes it blurry
Ofc if you wanna play both 3DS and DS games the 2DS XL is a great choice too
I should really add a dsi xl to my collection, I've heard a lotta good things about it

Not just that the new 3ds games also use the extra processing power of the new model
The big advantage the DSi has over the OG DS/DS Lite is how easy it is to software mod for homebrew, you don't need a flashcart or anything, just a standard SD card. Opens up a world of homebrew games/apps and emulators if that's your thing. Easily my favourite option if you're not particularly interested in 3DS games, because it has the best form factor.
You cant play 3ds games on it? Or you mean the 3d effect? i mean if you mod them you can play 3ds games right?
Cause there's a brick risk with installing unlaunch I'm hesitant to mod it

Original and Lite do offer internet access via wifi. Thing is, they only work with WEP connections, which are insecure and outdated. Most routers use WPA/WPA2 nowadays, which DSi supports.
Nice video. And to answer your question at 5:30, the New 3DS models are like the "Super Saiyan" version of their respective consoles. Adding in higher processor units, built-in NFC reader for your Amiibos, facetracking 3D (except for the New 2ds XL ofc), extra shoulder buttons, circle pad pro, and using micro SD cards instead of regular SD cards.
And for your comment on the New 3ds games, they require so much power to run making them unplayable on regular models. Which is where the higher processor unit comes into play.

Amazing video, though! I know it's more on the "rare" side so I definitely don't recommend anybody go out of their way to buy it, but I LOVE my New 3DS. Not the XL, just the New 3DS base model! It's just so comfy and looks the most "Nintendo" to me with the colored buttons! I think I'll name mine Toby!

The main difference between old and new 3ds games is that the “new” model has more processing power, c-stick, ZR and ZR buttons, and the ‘not really necessary’ super stable 3D
I'm thinking of getting a DS Lite from a flea market near me because I just want to have the freedom of playing GBA games without having to buy the handheld they originally belonged to

i bought a brand new dsi in 2024 and i regret i didnt get a ds like that was very loved and used to simulate what it would be like if i had this since i was small and i played it cause compared to modern tech it looks weird for something old be new near new unlike old being next to new but loved

They are definitely worth it. My step dad recommended me the 2ds. I have a metallic pink ds lite my aunt gave me when she got it from guam and it was so fun to play mario 64 and cooking mama as a little kid growing up. I got my second handheld as the 2ds but modded. These are very worth it and I recommend them. I’m gonna be honest, I would actually say that the 2ds has better fun things to do than on an Iphone Lol
The 2ds and dsixl are the most comfy. I know the 2ds feels a bit cheaper but it, like the dsixl is so light to hold it's more comfy. I do play my new 3dsxl and love it but it feels so hefty when you pick up the others (niece owns a 2ds xl, I had a ds lite and also got a dsixl recently)
Not sure what people are saying you need to connect to the internet with an original DS. You definitely didn't need any external hardware. That was one of the big marketing points of Pokemon Gen 4 was battling and trading online, and those games came out way before the DSi.
Which games did you play or still play on DS/3DS? For me it's mostly Mario games for Co op, but for single-play I mostly play Dragon quest and the great JRPGs of the console
I'm currently trying to re complete new super Mario bros on the ds and for 3ds I've been playing tomodachi life and super Mario 3d land!

answering your question about the New 3DS/2DS lineup:
the New 3DS lineup has faster CPUs over the Old 3DS lineup (gonna refer now as O3DS and N3DS)
N3DS has exclusive games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Minecraft
N3DS has the C Stick and an NFC chip reader underneath the lower screen for amiibo.
but the O3DS has quality. my friends N3DS XL is showing paint chipping issues. I don't know about a loose hinge, though.

After the DSI the 2ds was my first 3ds.. the 3d just didnt appeal to me at the time. THE 2DS IS A DREAM THO!! Reminds me of a gameboy with 2 screens :)

I know this video is kinda old and probably weird to comment on but i never got to play old pokemon games and i want to get a ds to play them and i'd also like to play the games that I liked to play on my old 2DS that i don't have anymore. What's the reason for getting the ds lite if everything after it technically better? does it have something to do with the big cartridge slot that the newer ds's don't have?
Yes if ur looking to play old Gameboy games then you'll need either a DS lite, an og DS or of course a game boy. But other than that it's just cuz it's built for older games so the screen fits them better

I have a homebrew 3ds xl but it broke. Can i swap my system card with another 3ds and still have the same modded software and all my storage?
This is late but the answer is no. You need to do the modding process again, then you can move over your games and saves

I used to think the og ds has a bigger screen than the lite it has 4 inches the lite is 4.17 inches the lite has a bigger screen
New 3DS games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3D requires more processing power to run properly.
If I remember correctly, through modding someone tried to run Xenoblade Chronicles 3D on a normal 3DS/2DS system and the game lag so much it's unplayable.
No wonder it was like that because the game even lags in some parts on a New 3DS/New 2DS system.
But not all of them are like that, most SNES games run just fine on a normal 3DS/2DS (tested through modding again) but Nintendo decided to make them exclusive to the New 3DS/New 2DS.
I would recommend the new 3ds xl anyday

Simple dsi xl for ds new 3ds xl for 3ds or if you like smaller the non xl versions of these

It's good you're being cautious, I find reading reviews and keeping in contact with the seller is the best way to make sure you're not being scammed👍🏼
@@thumb_sp i did look at a lot of reviews of NDL's and they are almost all positive reviews, i stayed in touch with the sellers and they started shipping and they said the DS will come in 10 days, ah im so excited and i also ordered an r4 card that will come around 10th of febuary cant wait to play some pokemon, mario and mario kart also some taiko

Imo the new 3DS is the best, becuase its the most powerful to run a wealth of emulators, apps, and also new 3DS games. And you also have DS games to play. I love the 3DS becuase the 3D is just so good! i use it every time i play!

My old 3ds got brick and no longer in my collection
DS LITE is and will always be my favorite.
New 3ds/2ds XLs are obviously the best because they can play the N3DS exclusives, and SNES Virtual Console. If you hack it, you slso get GBA compatibility.
But I really like the original DS too. It's comfy imo.
new 3d, new 3ds xl, new 2s has a better processor then the o3ds, o3ds xl, 2ds. and 256mb ram instead of 128mb ram . but same gpu
the new processor is 804 MHz - the old 268 MHz
the 804 processor have 2 modes either 268 or 804. it runs most of the time on 268 speed unless the game requests the 2nd faster mode.
the new 3ds only games took adventive of the upgrades. like xenoblade chronicles 3d. which is a nintendo wii game ported for the 3ds but with lower graphics. but its the exact same game.
ya i agree 3ds xl looks better then the new 3ds xl. the shell it self is better designed. also the new 3ds xl have a peeling paint problem unless u go for the only 2 variants with no metallic color. the black pokemon sun moon or the gray snes/famicom.
the ds lite is so lightweight its unbelievable. very comfortable to play for very long play sessions. or while on the bed leaning while playing. the downside is the low quality material. its still better then ds fat for sure, quality and comfortability.
Haven't found a 2ds xl yet where i live. but its a better new 3ds xl if u dont care about 3d. its lighter, easier to remove the sd cad, better looking, lower batter tho. not all the games that support 3d even look good in 3d even. but some games dose look very very interesting in 3d. zelda ocarina of time, majora's mask, link between worlds, super mario 3d land come to mind. only ocarina i dont have physically yet =/
U can get PictoChat working on any 3ds (it have to be modded first). i have right now ds lite , dsi xl , new 3ds xl. i used to have also 3ds , dsi and psp go. i mod all my devices.
here is some of my " wisdom " =)
best way to play ds games by FAR is DSi or DSi xl.
1. both can be modded so u can put all ur game u own to the side mounted memory card which DS lite and DS fat cant do unless u gonna go for r4 cards,
2. have brighter screen then DS lite , DS fat.
3. and both are easy to look and sharp image compered to playing DS games on any 3ds. yes u can hold start or shift while loading ds game on 3ds to make it sharper but that method will lower the screen size. and it makes it small on the xl and even smaller and unusable in my opinion on o3ds/2ds. also both DSi's are less wight then 3ds's in genral which helps in long session play.
I would also add this. if u own gba games then ds lite would be ur best option.
Also if u want to buy only 1 device. then get any 3ds/2ds. doesn't matter newer models or not (depend on ur money). but even the old 3ds/3ds xl /2ds will be able to still play 98% of all 3ds / all ds / all gba / all gbc /all gb / all snes / all nes / all sega md , and more
Modded DSi, DSi xl can run all ds / 98% of all gba / all gbc /all gb / all nes with very good results.

best way to play gba games is "surprisingly" sony psp go. 1. its very light on the hands, the aspect ratio of the screen almost near the gba not 100% sharp but it dose look very good. big screen while playing gba even compered to any xl of the 3ds family , the emulator dose support the save state for starting where u left the game or for repeating hard parts. i haven't tried the normal psp yet but i think its even better cause its easier to hold and bigger screen. unless u want the portability and don't mind the small grip then go for the psp go model.
2nd best way to play gba is any dsi. the performance sadly not native contrary to popular belief. playing gba games is only native (100% exact proformance like the orginal gba) if u playing from slot 2 on ds lite/fat (r4 card gba emulation is not native as well even on DS lite/DS fat) or from any 3ds ( on any 3ds can be native or not, but even not native is very fast and no delay so no problems there) . dsi is not native gba support. and its gba emulator dosnt have save state option.
best way to play gbc or gb games is any dsi or any psp go. the emulator can shut off the 2nd screen totally for even longer battery uptime. and dose support the save state for starting where u left the game or for repeating hard parts. in both consoles.
You skipped the DSi XL, it was the best way to play DS games. Playing a DS game on a 3DS was a blurry and buggy mess.

The technicality is just that my 2ds xl is new and my 3ds xl is an older model so it can't play new games, that's about it🤷🏻♀️

I can’t choose between a ds lite and a dsi. If someone could suggest which one I should buy as I don’t know what to choose. Also with the dsi, it has a different ui/menu to the previous ds lite and ds and I was wondering whether that was worth sacrificing a ds lite for a dsi’s home menu

Depend if u want a normal sized model or the xl variant. Tbh I only hat a dsi xl but I like the menu not very dramatic in my opinion the dsi xl is also the only consol with a 100% guarantee that both screens are ips witch the older ones don't have and the n3ds/xl and n2ds xl don't even have ips in all consoles. So I would defently say dsi xl.

Same for me. I decided on DS Lite because I found a seller on eBay who sells DS Lite with new shells with rigorous testing procedures but couldn’t find any for DSi. Cosmetics and quality is important to me so I chose DS Lite.

I have a 2ds. In my opinion it's so much better, I'm used to hold a somewhat big tablet so the flat screen feels so much nicer to me than the normal flip cases. It is kinda awkward to store as it's essentially a brick but it's completely worth it.
