  • What kind of pre-flight preparations do pilots have to do before they go flying?
Who does what and how do they determine how much fuel that they need to uplift into the aircraft?
This and many more things will be covered in this video. You will get to follow me and my collegue Luca when we go through the Weather, NOTAM's, Flightplans and much more. Make sure you watch the whole video to the end, you might have to do this yourselves some day!
Please feel free to ask questions about this episode in the comments of the video and get the Mentour Aviation app in order to discuss directly with me or other pilots and aviation enthusiasts.
You can also buy instructional videos in the applications about various topics like "Engine failure", "TCAS maneuvres", "Cat 3 approaches" and also a complete "Setup of a Boeing 737-800" from Dark and cold to ready for taxi.

This is such a tough subject to talk about. #1 It's highly technical. #2 It's a dangerous game because you risk disclosing proprietary or security information. #3 There is a ton of material to cover because there is a lot of material that pilots have to sort through. Thank you for cutting through it and letting us see.

Haha I love how at the start the camera started rolling just before you began walking, so there's a moment when you haven't begun walking yet, and then you begin walking to take the intro shot. It's these little quirks/"mistakes" which make me realise that making videos like these takes a lot of deliberate work - they show just how much thought you put into the little details, how much effort you put into making this podcast as entertaining and polished as they are informative. I've been binge-watching your videos for a week now and I don't see myself stopping till I get through every single one of them. Thank you for all your amazing work :)

Captain Petter great video and as a former aircraft engineer approaching 80 years young who still loves to fly long haul, it is good to learn what goes on behind the scenes to get us safely to destination. There seems to be much information to digest and understand even before the pre-flight walk around. Many thanks for all the good gen.

this is so comforting! i dont know about the rest of the people who watch your videos, but i was under the impression that you usually knew nothing about the weather when you were on an aircraft, i thought it was a bit of a surprise how the day would go and that's why turbulence scares me a lot, cause it feels like the crew didnt know about it or werent ready for it. but now i see you have everything in order and as much control as it can be!

Videos like these ones have really helped me get over my fear of flying. I suppose when anything bad happens with a plane you only ever see the disasters either in films or in real life on the news. So you never get a clear picture in your head of just how safe flying is or the amount of work that actually goes into flying a plane from the engineers, to the pilots, air stewards, safety checks etc.
I recently flew on a plane where someonething occurred with an airlock after the plane already landed safely. This fault occurred while loading passenger luggage onto the aircraft. We all boarded the plane but after about an hour of no joy trying to fix the fault we had to disembark and get back on another plane.
Then we got ready to go to the runway and an aggressive passenger kicked off so it was back to parking the plane to have him arrested and taken off.
7 hour delay in total but it was so reassuring to see no matter how long anything takes, if something isn't right then it's a case of hurry up and wait.
It was my husband and kids first time flying whereas I've flown for 28 years. I had to tell them these were highly unusual circumstances also the weather caused more delays stopping and starting take offs and landings and we were about no.30 in the queue for take off.
Flight was fine and flight home was very quick and smooth.
    Love flying now :)

Very informative video, especially for someone who has never seen what you do before you get to the plane, most people think it's like a rental car, next flight crew jumps in and your off

As a comparison, I work for a small Charter company on Piston and Turbine aircraft. For us, our call time is 1-1.5 hours before flight. First officer does the walk around then takes the aircraft out to the run up area to warm up the engines and test the systems. Captain does the flight planning during this time. By the time I am done the run up I usually have a text message from the Captain with how much fuel we need and I fill up the plane. Then I add or remove any seats required for the trip, and the captain is usually greeting passengers and preparing the commissary/ bringing out the baggage and cargo to be loaded. Now we load the passengers and everything is ready for an immediate departure.

I would like a video explaining more about the numbers and info on the flight plan... I guess I would be a great subject! Your channel is great!! Congrats
