  • WHY ARE CARS SO D*MN EXPENSIVE?! Enter the 2023 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, a cheap 7 seat Japanese off-road SUV - but is it any good??
    Today we look at the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, a Ute (truck) based SUV that promises a lot for little. It can go offroad with a front and rear differential, Japanese reliability, an ancient interior, a decent exterior, and 10-year warranty! So should you buy one of Australia's cheapest 7-seat 4x4 SUVs? Let's talk about that!

    A great followup to your mid-2020 review of the Pajero Sport Exceed. I bought one after watching your review and it's the most practical & fun 4WD i've owned. Perfect for weekend trips to Bunnings or for family holidays down south (WA) driving along the sand tracks & beaches. Glad to hear you (and your mum) still enjoy this car too!

    Ex SV6 VF2 Commodore Sportwagon owner and loved the car. Due to we are now towing a camper bought a GSR Diamond White Paj Sport and took delivery in April 2022. May did 6,900km in the NT with some friends and cannot complain. Not perfect but it did the job. Main reason I went for it was that it had a real 4WD system unlike most of its competitors. Comfortable and pretty economical. All these Toorak Tractors are much alike. I think of it as a tool I need for what I need it for and I loved the price.

    Great review ...in the end.... in spite of what appears to be occasional uncontrollable urges to go into verbal diarrhea mode you gave a pretty frank and worthwhile assessment of the car I have on order - except I have ordered the 5 seater GLX so I wont have to be traumatised by having to move the third row seats -unfortunately its only the poverty pack that offers the 5 seater -the lower boot space AND extra space freed up is a win win for anyone who does need to carry more than 5 humans. Great to see you give it some herbs as we don't all drive like grey nomads. The 4h mode has to be be it's greatest feature , having previously owned a 2016 Sorento I am a totally converted to AWD and the surefootedness it provides in wet conditions.

    Not sure why digital speedometer readout is so desirable, analogs are just fine, and give a good indication with a good quality guage, maybe it's a age thing, digital tachos are not desirable by comparison either.
    As for softer padded dashboards, in the past some European manufacturers soft dash materials cracked up and deteriorated quickly in Australian heat and sun levels.

    A 2.4 Liter 4 cylinder Pajero sport?? In kuwait or middle east in general, they have only the 3 liter / 3.8 liter , 6 cylinder trims. Only outlander & asx comes in 4.
    The Triton / L200 is however the same 2.4 liter diesel / petrol engine with optional 4x4.
    Good to see Mitsubishi coming up. As a person who drives an Asx as daily driver, Mitsubishi's are practical and value for money

    Had the previous model for a super reliable 5 years with lots of towing..caravan 2.2 t. Full time 4wd was a must have so choices limited. Agree with most of the review. For me, the biggest Paj Sport failure is the stupidly small 68 litre fuel tank. When towing, particularly in remote areas, this gives some dangerously short ranges. Would have replaced like for like but for the poor range. Ended up with a Prado for the 150 litre tank. Even with an additional tank ($A2.2k fitted and certified), capacity only gets to 104 litres.

    • @paulklp8262

    The longest time I owned a car was a 2003 Montero Sport XLS. I drove it until it died in 2019. Since 2005 Mitsubishi has been offering total garbage in the U.S. market. I wish this model was sold in North America. Mitsubishi cars and trucks are among the world's great bargains.

    Having now owned one for 2 years, I can say that you definitely get what you pay for.
    Tailgate issues, infotainment system going dark, multiple intercooler hose and o-ring failures and all before 30,000kms.
    And that's not even discussing the Absolutely rubbish customer service from Mitsi Aus.
    Would I buy one again?
    Absolutely not.

    • @GrantHawkey
      @GrantHawkey ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Thanks for highlighting the rare case of ownership. Meanwhile, most owners have little to zero issues, with the intercooler hoses being the most know issue, with an easy silicone hose kit replacement taking care of that. I've had mine for 2 years also, with a dyno tune for 18 of those months, more power and torque than an Amarok and less than stock fuel usage, and still on original intercooler hoses. A few have had tailgate issues, but it's not common. I've personally had power window issues intermittently, but given it's fantastic off road capabilities and overall value, I'd quickly line up for another one 😁 Oh and Mitsi service in Australia is one of the better ones, so again you've been pretty unfortunate to have a bad run there.
      Would I buy one again?
      I'll take two 😉

    • @lukeclifton4392
      @lukeclifton4392 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I’ve heard this can be the case. But on the other hand, they seem to offer excellent value for money, with the warranty to boot. It seems that most Mitsi’s are great, but if you score a dud… it’s a REAL dud, and thats going all the way back to the 80’s too.
      Considering your luck, how were Mitsubishi with warranty service? I’m also curious whether you think some of the issues/or their repair could be related to the dealership just being crap?
      I’ve never had a Mitsubishi before, but the new outlander looks fantastic (fit and finish 👍)… I travel almost 50km a year (just long commutes) and am considering one. But I don’t want to go through hassles related to failure, then warranty claims, no vehicle for days etc.

    • @lachlansheekey2839
      @lachlansheekey2839 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Grant Hawkey such a good car you had to fit aftermarket parts to prevent issues with the pipes, and get it tuned and void your driveline warranty to get similar performance to a bone stock v6 amarok?
      I've just been through 2 months of hell trying to get an engine related warranty issue sorted, and the service from 2 dealers has been second rate to say the least.
      Since Nissan took control Mitsi has become a shadow of its former self, which is a shame as they were once regarded as having the best customer service reputation.
      But hey, if your happy then all good, you must have one built on a Wednesday.

    • @lachlansheekey2839
      @lachlansheekey2839 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Luke Clifton I always liked Mitsi, this is the 6th one our family has had and in less than 2 years and 30,000kms it's had no fewer than half a dozen trips to the dealer to rectify issues, namely intercooler hoses and orings that failed 3 times in those kms.
      To cap it all off, the updated parts that got fitted then caused a secondary issue of pushing the intercooler onto the bodywork, which the dealer didn't pick up prior to handing us the car back the day before a 2500km drive.

    • @GrantHawkey
      @GrantHawkey ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@lachlansheekey2839 Haha no worries. To clarify, I don’t have aftermarket parts to fix anything, just that silicone hose kits are available if needed. Like I said, mine are still the original ones so far. The tune wasn’t necessary, just my choice to have the 2.4L 4 output more reliable power and torque than a 3.0L V6 and NOT void any warranty at all - confirmed on several occasions and backed by the tuner’s warranty if the manufacturer should ever try denying a claim. Back in the old days it was a thing apparently, but not the case with reputable tuners these days mate 😉 We spend more time in 8th on the open road towing, hence the lower fuel use than pre-tune. The transmission is happy too, given it’s the 8 speed Aisin box as used in the 200LC, but with less weight to move along. Over engineered, just the way I like it 🙂
