    This case is so sad. Nicole's grandparents should have filed for custody on the grounds of abandonment. Her father took off for months and left Nicole with her grandparents that would have given them the right to get guardianship of her.

      @Kari.F. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      That's what would have happened in a just world, but a parent's rights is very strong, and they were even stronger back then. It's such a sad, sad case...

    • @kassandrarogers4286
      @kassandrarogers4286 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Yeah I think it takes much longer before they can file for abandonment. All he would have had to say was he was grieving and just needed a few months to do so, people would have took his side saying he had been through enough. They probably tried really hard to keep her and did what they could.

    • @kassandrarogers4286
      @kassandrarogers4286 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Kari.F. your right, especially back then. I've seen cases of them constantly giving abused kids back to the parents in the 70s and 80s, they could basically do anything and at the end of the day they were still the parents.

      @Jordys_Cursed_Camera 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kassandrarogers4286 yea I'm not sure how long it takes for abandonment to be considered. I believe it varies state to state but they didn't mention if it had been thought of or not and I just wanted to add it. I think there's a lot of help out there for people but it's not really advertised in any way. I just wish that people were informed of any and all help out there that might apply to them.

    They claimed the social security benefits for Nikole for the years she was entitled to it - ie. until she was eighteen. I figure that was reason enough for them to take her. Disgusting. 😥😥

      Even without the social security checks they would of been able to get money through cash assistance, food stamps, housing assistance and at least 6 thousand a year earned income tax return for one child. Even if a parents income is only 5 thousand a year the earned income tax credit and child tax credit gives parents at least 6 thousand a year for claiming one child. Two children equal about 10 thousand a year tax return their parents get until the children either graduate highschool or until the children are 22 if they continue to stay in school and go to college

    I wonder if anyone else realizes that once a baby leaves the hospital…. There is no tracking or anything for at least 5 years when the kid starts school. There is no system that monitors for dr visits or well being of the child. Unless someone reports neglect or abuse or a missing child… the child is completely off the radar. How many kids are missing that no one even realizes are missing

    • @kathleenholt5005

      wouldn’t doctor visits cover that?

    • @jennprice4154
      @jennprice4154 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@adelinav123 not really. And if abusive or neglectful parents don’t take the child to a doctor, there is no one to report anything to the authorities. Even once a kid starts school, all a parent has to say is the kid is living in another state with family or is being homeschooled or is going to a private school….no one follows up with it. Social worker only get involved if there is reported neglect or abuse. It is the same with elderly people. Unless someone reports their death or a body is collected by a funeral home or authorities, someone can collect their checks or bank accounts as most are direct deposit for years and it would never be questioned. This is what happened here, the child was a minor, so an adult would be in charge of the bank account that’s why they were able to cash the checks that long. If a child is born in the hospital, now they can issue the social security number at birth, BUT only if the parent requests it. I personally did not get mine until I was 15. But it’s not used to track anything for a child except if they claimed on a tax return…but still no one actually sees the child for that to happen. And what about the 10 to 30% of births that happen outside of hospital.

    • @GenXfrom75
      @GenXfrom75 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      It can be a terrifying thought. But what's the answer? In a free society, people can't pop up and track the movements of a family. I never thought of it because when I had my family early on, we travelled around America with my husband, as he was in the Army. We should have the ability to mandate once yearly physical exams to ensure that they're growing properly and seem to be overall healthy. That's the least we should be doing, I think.

    • @jennprice4154
      @jennprice4154 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@GenXfrom75 my personal opinion is that children should be issued a ssn at birth regardless of the parents wishes ( as the child will need it anyway during their lifetime ). I also think that children under the age of 6 should be kept on a national database and it be legally required that the child see a dr every six months until they are school age. That database would have the child’s medical history no matter what state they are in. Also I think that if the visits aren’t fulfilled, no one can claim all the tax benefits for that child. That’s something else these people probably did was claim her as a dependent so there was also tax fraud.

    Back in those days, it was VERY easy to sell a child to someone. I think that is probably what they did. Many kids were sold to loving couples who could not afford adoption costs, so we can only hope that was the case for Nikole, and not sold into trafficking. He would have faced jail time for selling his child, so it could be he did that.

    • @mimixmin
      @mimixmin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      But the statute of limitations would mean that he could no longer be charged for selling her if he did. As Bella said, the only reason he would still be able to be charged and go to jail for would be murder as murder is the only exception for the statute of limitations. So since Barbara said he'd have to go to jail, that would mean he committed murder and could still be charged for it.

    My mum died in 2008. The love of her life and partner of 25 years (my step-father) who also said she was the one true love of his life, had another woman on the go after 5 months of my mum's passing. He hopped from relationship to relationship for the next couple of years. I used to think this meant he hadn't loved my mum as much as he professed to have done, but over time I've come to understand that some men just genuinely are not able to be alone. For my step-dad, it was better to be with *somebody* rather than be with *nobody*.

He just lived his whole life with either his first wife looking after him or my mother looking after him, he simply doesn't function well alone, he needs to be in a relationship. Many studies have been done on people who lose a partner to illness and most show that the person left behind usually seeks out another partner quite quickly, mostly in an attempt to subconsciously fill the void the loss of their partner has left them with.

    You should look into the case of Isabella Kalua. It happened this year on Oahu, and is still ongoing but really heartbreaking and deserves attention. Isabella was a foster child, allegedly abused by her foster parents, who went missing earlier this year. Her foster siblings say they found her dead, duct taped in a dog crate, but her body is still missing. The whole island went on a manhunt for her before all the truth of the abuse started coming out. Right around Thanksgiving her foster parents were arrested for 2nd degree murder. Obviously theres more details but definitely one that deserves attention.

    Could it be a possibility that he caused the accident with intention that both the mom and baby would die? If that were the case, he would try to figure out what to do with the baby. Maybe he was already in a relationship with the new woman by then and they concocted the idea to retrieve the baby, get rid of her somehow, and still collect 18 years worth of monetary benefits for her. It's obvious that they did SOMETHING to the baby. Such a sad case.

    Didn't take long at all for me to suspect that the father had killed her. There have been too many cases of children disappearing or turning up dead under similar circumstances.

    Him saying he needed to get into contact with Nikcole makes me think maybe they sent her somewhere and they killed themselves because they couldn’t get in contact with her for some reason or found out she was dead and thought they would be to blame for their deaths. Also they don’t sound like very smart people they might not have knowledge on the statute of limitations so they could think he would still go to jail for any number of things.

    • @funsizedi88
      @funsizedi88 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, murder has no statue of limitations. So, if he knew he killed her, then he knew he was fucked if he got caught. I'm only about 1/2 thru the video, but definitely sounds like she was sent somewhere or dead from the time she left her grandparents.

    Sadly with Nikole being under 3 years old when Jared took her out of the Klingles' custody their theory that she would come find them when she was older was always doomed to fail, whilst the brain is capable of retaining most memories for upto 7 years unfortunately most people suffer from what child physiatrists call infantile dementia. Id is the inability to remember anything that happened within the first three years of life, so unless Nikole turned 3 whilst in her grandparents care there's no way she'd remember them.
    I'm not sure how it works in the U.S but here in the UK local authorities (city/town or county education department) contact parents at least a year prior to a child starting school to ask which local schools they'd like their child to go to, the fact that Peggy Bezzie (the private investigator) couldn't find Nikole in Las Vegas doesn't mean that she couldn't have been 'enrolled' somewhere else. There is around 2,008 miles between Dearborn and Las Vegas, many nice towns to settle down for awhile and then move on from. Personally I think that Jared and Barbara killed Nikole at some point prior to her 5th birthday

      There is no program like this is America that I am aware of. After receiving our SSN at birth we are basically off the radar until we are registered for school. Also, America uses zipcodes to assign schools so there is no reason to reach out to survey parents on ideal schools. Children are supposed to be enrolled no later than age 7 for school but I am unsure of how this is enforced besides a family member or friend calling Child Services out of good merit.

      The only way a child would be checked on prior to school age is if they had been hotlined or in the foster system. No established doctor means no calls for appointment reminders. No daycare means no attendance checks. Ect.

      I don’t think Nikole would’ve needed to remember her grandparents in order to want to have some level of contact with them. I think she would have been motivated to contact them herself simply in order to learn more about her mother … and I suspect the grandparents were thinking the same thing.

    I think they picked her up because of her social security checks and quickly realized how difficult it can be caring for such a young child and killed her. They probably waited 20 years for that knock on the door.

    They needed the money so they used her after her murder because they didn’t want to deal with her. I also thought trafficking might have been involved. They would’ve gotten money that way too but I’d think there might be SOME kind of trace. Such a heartbreaking story; my heart hurts for Nikole.

    I think there are a few possibilities :c
    1) At some point while Jerrad and Barbara were high in the car, they got annoyed by something that Nikole was doing in the back seat and simply dumped her off somewhere without a thought
    2) They sold her
    3) They kept her for a period of time for very dark, moneymaking purposes. If she did die under their care, I think it was due to something going wrong in this scenario
    I don't think these people are smart enough to understand or keep track of the statute of limitations for various crimes, so I don't think they necessarily murdered her to get the reaction of a murder-suicide in the end

    My theory is that Jarrett knew Nikole was getting social security checks and that was the reason he and Barbara wanted her in the first place. Maybe they never even planned on raising her.

    My thought from the beginning is that they picked her up from her grandparents in order to sell her. They were probably broke and needed money to start a life in Vegas. If they did an illegal adoption, there wouldn’t be paperwork. So it would look like she just vanished! They might have thought- at the time- that it wasn’t immoral since they gave Nikole to a couple who wanted kids. It might have seemed like a win-win, especially since they got her social security checks. But maybe they felt guilty for having taken Nikole away from her real family in the end. Selling a child is illegal, so they probably thought they were in serious trouble. Also, law enforcement can bluff and make it seem like you’re in worse trouble than you are. We don’t know what they were told- but it could have scared them into taking “drastic measures.” Maybe Barbara genuinely felt guilty in the end, hence the letter.
