Beach Metal Detecting : How I Cleaned Beach Coins with a Rock Tumbler

  • What to do with all those coins you find at the beach. I used my rock tumbler to clean them and turned them into cash!
    I was not sure what to do with all those coins. They were dirty, sticky and crusted over. I decided to use my tumbler and it worked like a charm.
    There are a lot of ways to clean the coins and I gave the tumbler a try and was very satisfied with the results. I would NEVER do this with a coin I valued. But, it sure made it easy to dispose of them for some green stuff.

    separate the pennies from the other clad the results will be better otherwise the pennies turn your clad pink. I use regular fish tank gravel and dawn dish soap, vinegar, CLR, and salt the coins come out like new.

    Hi Bill and Christine. I hope this is the right place for your Secret! I started tumbling rocks from my country road driveway. I have a Harbor Freight double tumbler. It is O.k. Yours would be a great addition and a better one of course. I would enjoy wearing some of your apparel. Thanks. The Dove Lady, Candice😁😁

    Stainless steel beads with dawn dish soap tumbled for 10 minutes cleans coins pretty good it’s a good idea to separate pennies from other coins

      Robert, this may seem like a dumb question, but can you reuse the beads? Also what tumbler do you guys recommend? Thanks

    • @roberttucker181
      @roberttucker181 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@disme556 yes you can reuse them indefinitely just use a strainer to separate the coins from the stainless media then rinse the soap out of the stainless steel shot let it dry and reuse that little 3 lb loritone tumber is great or go to harbor freight and get their tumbler it’s cheaper but works fine just won’t last as long

      I have 2 ultra vibe 10's and a Ultra Vibe 45 that I use to clean my Coins and I Use Dry Sand and no water 💦 and I don't have to wait for it to get Dry and the 10 is light enough to just take off the lid and pour the sand out into the strainer and shake and not disassemble it like that tumbler and the 45 I could put almost a 5 gallon bucket of coins in it but I haven't found that much yet to hold on to, but I have found that Dry silica sand like you will use for Sand Blasting and Lowe's and Home Depot Carry It and I have used corn cobs and walnut shells but the shell's Had a Red coating on it and it turned the coin's Red and stuck on the coin and also hard to get off but no water 💧 and They Was bought At Cabela's now Bass Pro the Ultra Vibe 10......

      Get a ultra vibe 10 and Dry Sand and the coin's don't tumble on top of each other and get any damages like they do from the tumbler and No MORE waiting for them to get Dry from using water 💦 and having a table big enough to spread out the coin's, just need a sifter and a bucket 🪣 and after a couple of shakes the Sand falls in the bucket and ready for the next time it's needed

    Super fast way: rinse dirt off in a strainer: separate nickels and pennies: put quarters and dimes together in the drum, teaspoon of salt, 1/8 cup dawn power wash, 1/8 cup vinegar, 30 mins tumble time, coin machine ready...

    I tumble coins. Have tried many methods including Sand alone, black cinder alone, vinegar and salt brine works but can give you pink :) quarters if coins aren't separated (electrolysis). Also coin on coin rubbing (doesn't work well), heck I even tried adding Heinz Ketchup as someone said it works. :)

      I Use the Ultra Vibe 10 and dry sand to get the coin's clean and No Water and I have heard that the Mint will take them back and give you money for them but I haven't checked it out yet but it was on one of the Video's that I watched that they were talking about it and but I don't live anywhere near the Mint but the dry sand will get them clean and I have also used a electric Wire Wheel brush just to get the roughest junk off and then into the ultra vibe 10

      I am still trying to figure out the best way to clean coins without the tumbler. Some have made comments on this thread on how they clean them. I sort out all the spendable coins and tumble the bad ones. If you figure out a good way, let me know...I will do the same

    Why on earth would you ever use a coinstar to trade your coins in. I feel it's alot of work digging holes and 0 chance I'll give anyone a % of it. All banks now have coin machines. Even if don't have a bank you can set up a savings acct for 5 bucks. C'mon guys don't ever use coinstar
