Now you're talking Doris. Love this one and episodes about designers. I was working at a upscale salon in S.F. in 1990 the year Halston passed. That same year I met a woman who told me she had been one of Halston's models when she was younger. She was a woman of color and certainly had the figure to be a runway model. I had no reason to doubt her. The week Halston passed she came into the salon wearing a pill box hat, she expressed great sadness about her guy. Also loved your jacket and congrats on your new trim self.
I’m a 65 year old male who, by the way, also attended Pratt Institute in the early 70s - and did my Menswear project in Ultrasuede. A fantastic fabric that I wish would make a re-appearance. Years after I left college, I purchased an off white Ultrasuede safari jacket - that I wore until I wore through the fabric. Love Halston. Love Ultrasuede!
What a fantastic thing to get point-in-time perspective and storytelling from Chris. Doris, you are a fantastic collector of fashion, history and people. If there is a way we can better promote your channel let us know, I'm surprised it hasn't taken off into the stratosphere yet! I think virtual interviews are also a fantastic format, it makes sessions more informal and personal.

I find it so interesting that of the B.O.V,., 4 on the french and 4 on the American sides became household known names. I wonder why Marc Bohan and Stephen Burrows never got the same exposure and longevity as all the other 8 did. It is so sad that we lost Halston so early. He had such a under appreciated hand in making the late 70's look the way they did. He moved the marketing of fashion into the 21st century. And one of the most innovative pattern makers i have ever seen! Thank you to all that help his legacy live to a new generation. he deserves a pretty solid place in fashion history imo. So FABULOUS he was!

I found out about the Halston name in the early 80's when my mum was hooked on his fragrance. It was HUGE!!! As a young artist at the time, I loved the design of the bottle. It still holds up today!
I have the video of the Battle of Versailles fashion show! Halston wanted to walk he was soo frustrated but Liza Minnelli calmed him when she sang and America knocked Paris to it's knees that year and American fashion was put on the map!!

I am amazed at how many designers are from Indiana. I love the Halston fragrance!! it is always unique and recognizable- and today's fragrances all have the same fruity/floral scent- nothing is unique anymore!!!!

I watched the bio pic about him & when I say that man, Halston, was a visionary, he was just that. Cmon, he started making hats for Jackie O. He was destined for greatness from birth. Hell, his mother was his first muse at the age of 12‼️

Loved this interview... thank you. I worked in store planning at I. Magnin in the late 70's early 80's and I remember the impact of ultra suede .....I bought a Bill Blass short 'jean' jacket in a toast color that I loved.....❤ I also bought some YSL on sale with my discount and also sewed copies of lots of YSL...it was such a fun time...... then I had children and life totally changed 😮...in a good way 😅

Another great video, Doris. I was on EBay recently and perused the vintage Halston items for sale. Some are dated - giant shoulder pads á la Joan Collins and Linda Evans from “Dynasty,” but others are stunning classics that still turn heads today, and will 50 years from now. One of the listings looks like your guest wearing a beautiful, one-shoulder Grecian dress.
This is absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much for posting this! Halston was such a creative genius and the integrity of his design style is still so relevant today. I can only imagine, if he lived longer, how his designs would've evolved over time. I think Halston's designs are more transcendent than Bill Blass's. This interview is wonderful.

Ok..so I just realized after watching this all the way through I owned a glass dress couture I feel even worse for selling since I couldve passed it down..it was that wine/maroonish color in a low back with flower belt and low back cause it was a halter...thankyou for posting I think his style is the BEST so timeless...
