awesome game both video and board. Can't wait till this comes out. Thank you guys so much for listening to my request. Definitely will keep watching this channel. You guys are the best..
So glad you got a copy of this from Plaid Hat as the preview is really helpful and it appears to have some interesting new mechanics with the cards. Tom, how does it compare to City of Remnants, Isaac Vega's other recent design?
Saw the title and thought 'oh crap,' but was pleasantly surprised that they've done a good job both with making a good board game and keeping true to the source material. Highly recommend you play the video game or at least watch a let's play to get into the storyline more.
@Emmanuel Vargas Guajardo It doesn't require a massive amount of calculation. It's more about seeing a need in your own infrastructure and filling it, like saving money for a rainy day. It's deep in that you're trying to figure out where to best allocate your money, but it's not a game of ridiculously high-level arithmatic. If you think of it in terms of "there's a gap there, so I should save up money for a turret to defend it," you won't have to worry about numbers management.
It wouldn't surprise me if Plaid Hat was approached to do the game in the early-mid development of the video game. It takes years to make a AAA video game and this was a video game that had been delayed once or twice.
Great review guys. I highly recommend trying the video game. In Bioshock Infinite, you are Booker and your objective is to lead Elizabeth around, so I find it really interesting that they made this game from the prospective of the people that you are going against in the game. Would you characterize this as an area control type game?
as one who played the game it's SUPER wierd and cool to hear Tom say that "Booker is like this really powerful, annoying guy" thing... felt like he was mentioning me xD lol
Admittedly, Bioshock Infinite is one of my favorite video games, and this coming from a guy who typically doesn't like first-person shooters. (Mostly because I love the setting.) That said, I'm not overly enthused about the board game. First, it's pretty darn expensive ($85). And I wonder if I straight-up action game would have been a better fit for the theme, like something resembling the Gears of War game. Anyway, I'll probably spend my money on the Heroclix figures instead.
I think a bit of a spoiler alert may have been prudent in this video as they mention different timelines. Granted the reviewers didn't understand why that would be one, but I think it a good idea to warn people.
So, I'm guessing that if Booker didn't do anything to the Vox Populi (Red Team) the game would be totally unbalanced? Also, Booker is only there to find Elisabeth and get her out of the city. He wouldn't fight the Vox at all if they weren't trying to kill him (for basically no reason mind you). He would definitely fight the Founders though, since they are trying to keep Elisabeth in the city. Anyway, this looks like a pretty good game. If you get the chance you should try out the Video Game of Bioshock: Infinite. You don't need to have played the other Bioshock games to enjoy Infinite, it's a self contained story. It didn't get a bunch of Game of the Year awards for nothing.
But, according to the story, there are infinite and different realities. So the boardgame's Booker might be similar, but not equal to the videogame's Booker and thus he might act differently.
the Vox want Elizabeth because the city is revolving around her (because of Comstock) they didn't want Booker to get away with her, and they used him to get their agendas done.
LoftOfTheUniverse The city isn't revolving around Elizabeth. Once they take out the founders the city will run just fine without her. Also Daisy never even mentions her, let a lone try to nab her.
+LoftOfTheUniverse She has power, but no one in Columbia knows this. All they know is she's Comstock's daughter and that he's invested a lot of time in religious propaganda so she will someday inherit his throne.
Thanks for the review. I'm a bit dismayed to hear this is functionally a two player game as I don't have interest in it as a two player game. I was really looking forward to it being a really good team game as there doesn't seem to be any of those around these days.
And you know for a fact he feels this way because you have spoken to him or know him personally? Pics or it didn't happen(for lack of a better expression).

Yes, I do know that as some of the content mentioned is an all too common theme in much of today's fiction whether it be TV, movies, books, games, etc.
Am I the only one who finds it odd that Plaid Hat created a board game based on a rather recently released video game? Board game design takes time. I wonder if they developed it simultaneously with the video game.
Is it true that this is a game with lots of calculations in the mechanics that makes unplayable to play for 4 players? I have read that this is a 2 player game because of that. Maybe the guys who made that comment were newbies in board games
You can thank me later Tom. TH-cam search BrickwallsGames for BioShock Infinite. (Warning there can be cursing and it is a Mature game). I've watched several let's plays on this game and he's by far the best in terms of moving the story along, interesting commentary, and pro FPS play.
You do realize that 'Bioshock: Infinite' is a work of fiction, right? That means that just because a character in a game or book or movie is racist does not mean that the create is racist.
Looks like an easy cash in for Plaid Hat. Gameplay sounds boring, Bioshock theme was interesting five years ago, but now it is simply showing its age by moving to the board game platform. For me, the world of board gaming and the world of video gaming shouldn't mix in such obvious ways, it just seems to cheapen the hobby. Gameplay looks fiddly and looks very focused on hand management, which can be fun, but seems to be mitigated by the randomness of all the dice rolling.
As usual Sam adds nothing to the review. (viewers don't care about how you did in your last play of the game.) Also, the unlocking mechanism has been done in Belfort.
"Booker is like this really powerful, annoying guy who runs around and shoots you".
Yup.
Interesting how you essentially play the bad guys. Looks like it mirrors the game pretty handily.
love the intro music and sam's honest opinions about the game as always.
This was a surprise video to wake up to seeing. Great video as always and glad to see Miami Dice back. :)

It is funny to hear Booker (the Video game's protagonist) being described as an annoying twerp...but it makes sense if you're Comstock or Vox.
How well does the early 1900's feel/vibe come across? Can you "feel" it? If I play some swing jazz will it help or feel out of place? :P
Miami Dice is back baby! Never leave again. And bring Zee with you next time too.

Awesome to wake up to and i love the bioshock series and im glad dice towers reviewed it
Great video guys. The game doesn't look like something I'd enjoy but stellar job on showing it off

Joseph Vantiem -no you should it's a terrible game that ended the series
I liked those Info Cards at the beginning of the review! :D

I am going to buy this board game when it comes out for sure now. Looks awesome. I like how 4 player is a team game and not a free for all.
Just bought it. I'm excited to play it.
I like what I hear. Really wasn't expecting it to be that interesting.
Is this out already?!?

Game seems to be awesome
Love the Bioshock series

+Disthron But she was valuable and had power, power to turn over the whole of Columbia.
+LoftOfTheUniverse She has power, but no one in Columbia knows this. All they know is she's Comstock's daughter and that he's invested a lot of time in religious propaganda so she will someday inherit his throne.
You just blew my mind, sir.
I thought this would be a Bioshocked-Themed City of Remnants but it's a completey different game. *add to cart* :D
Lol "booker is this annoying guy who comes up and shoots you"

The card that lets you take the sky lines for free better be called "He Doesn't Roll".
i don't get the reason, why they decide to redraw the map, rather than just do a collage of the game 3d scenery.
oh man... Might have to preorder this =P
Looks pretty fun, but I think I'll stick to the video games. Price for this seems a little steep despite the component quality.
And you know for a fact he feels this way because you have spoken to him or know him personally?

In the videogame, YOU play as Booker!
No Zee? :(
Is it possible for a world of Ayn Rand to go right?
The Bioshock games are epic

It's weird seeing one that isn't produced by FFG...
Tom calls Booker a twerp! :-)
I know that it's a board game, that was my point. It's a board game about a video game. I think that is weird
Translation: I lost so now it is time to start the insults because I have no further recourse.
Called it!

If this was true to the source material it would have bland gameplay but an amazing storyline..
LIghtbulb :)
Does anyone else think that making a game about a game weird, or is it just me?
You're thinking the original Bioshock. This one's criticism is more directed at the Tea Party and--to a lesser extent- communism.
Now if this was how the PC game had been I would probably not have been bored out of my mind after 3-4 hours (I do hate linear games fyi).
Once again: fictional.
Sorry Jesse Cox has a better let's play.

Do not play the videogame (total time waste, super overrated)
