    The more of these I watch, the more I resign myself to just paying Bambu for their refills, and sticking to brands like Voxel that I know work perfect with the AMS. For cardboard spools like Overture and Elegoo, I just use electrical tape around the spool edge, and they work perfectly that way.

      I am only use few spool brands and I printed a small riser for the ams lid for the slightly larger spools (not at the bottom but for the lids, this way I don't have to modify anything in the inside) and I printed the spool rings for the cardboard ones... with the riser I have no issue with the rings either

    I love watching this machine in action. I have yet to make it but it is definitely on my list. I can see myself rewinding spools just because this thing is such a joy to watch.

    I really like it. I Remixed/Uploaded a version to Printables that you can put a small DC motor on it with a Power/Reverse switch. Working on putting an "endstop type" switch so that it kills the motor when the end of the filament gets to the beginning of the tubing so you can just pick up the new spool and grab the end of the filament. Works good so far! :)

    I printed one myself for those annoying cardboard spools that don't fit in the AMS. I wind it by hand but it's almost perfect every single time.

    Instead of cutting the indexing tab off your spools why don’t you just drill a hole next to it? That way you can still use the refills like they’re meant to and have a spot to stick non bambu filament.

    That tab is a key for a notch in the cardboard inside a refill, it also keys into a notch in the RFIF plastic strip.

    I regularly get empty toner cartridges that are gonna be tossed since they've already been recycled a few times.
    I pull hardware out from them such as bearings and rods.
    Perhaps I should make one or two of these using those parts? 🤔

    Or just by Bambu Filament, price is excellent in the UK compared to others and they have a huge range of types and colours for next day delivery. Plus all the profiles are already in OracSlicer and RFID is great as I just want to print as the Printer is a tool that I use for other projects and hobbies.

    I almost use exclusively cardboard rolls (Polylite/Inland) in my AMS, I use 3/4 drive 1 1/8 ratchet socket inside the core as it lets the socket free roll inside the core. When the roll gets 1/2 way empty. the CB spools run right down to the end without issues.

    My carriage gear always gets stuck and then it skips gears because the ptfe tube hits the sides. No matter what i do I have to leave it loose so it just moves on its own because some spools are more narrow

    Clever mechanism. Be sure to pay attention to contaminates when re-reeling spools of filament. Little pieces of grit and crud lying around the shop that are wound into a reel will cause frustrating, time wasting and potentially damaging nozzle clogs.

    Couldn't I just break one side of the spool that im transferring from and slide the filament onto the lab spool? I would test it but i just ordered my Bambu printer a few days ago.

    Is the main spooler printed with supports or not?

  • @mrfoameruk
    @mrfoameruk ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't think the AMS should have been sold with these problems. I don't understand why they didn't make it wider as it would still not protrude over the edges of the main unit and would have allowed spools to be 5mm wider. I also don't think the motors are strong enough which is why there are errors all the time. I think the way to go is half spool most spools as that will most probably make it function without so many problems. I guess they put holes in their spools just to make them lighter so they work better, but doesn't help the people trying to get normal full rolls working.

    yeah. looks like a totally uncompicated process. You just need to download, print 43 pieces, some of the probably several times, because of failures, then you need to get some ball bearings and finally you need to try to spool it up which doesn't work well (see your failed first attempt). Why do we as customers always obey to the failures of producers instead of saying "you, mfs, I paid 250 bucks, deliver something that works with all spools" - what a failure...

    I seen too many hacks and wasted poop pla to not buy this printer, company should have worked more on the AMS what a way to fix the company lack of engineering

    • @redone823
      @redone823 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everyone has to start somewhere. Rome wasn't built in a day. Just like there's an iphone 14, it takes iteration. The only way to reduce poop is to have multiple print heads, which would drive up cost. Maybe in a few years they can afford to do multiple print heads.

    • @Liberty4Ever
      @Liberty4Ever ปีที่แล้ว

      @@redone823 - The AMS is an OK solution for contrasting colors on the top 2-4 layers which works well for logos or lettering. Trying to print a foot tall four color Buzz Lightyear is going to take a long time and waste a lot of filament.

    • @cl4367
      @cl4367 ปีที่แล้ว

      Who cares. Filament is cheap. The printer works really well. The AMS works well. The Bambu spool refill system is a poor setup. Most people don’t do a ton of color changes. Just occasional changes. The filament purge amount can be dialed back a-lot with no adverse effects.

    • @BasilFawlty64
      @BasilFawlty64 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't own one - your loss... If you know how to do it better, bring it to market or take it to Bambu. "I seen..." equals zero hands on experience, so I'd take your advice with a grain of Himalayan Pink...
      No, you can't use every spool diameter or width in the AMS, but you can use most. The AMS works well - 4 slots per, automated load/unload. Bambu has fine engineers. Great speed, reliability, accuracy, control. If it had dual extruders, one or even 1/2 AMS per -=!Oh Baby!=- But it doesn't, not yet. Yes, it by necessity wastes a bit of filament for embedded/partial layer multicolour, but you have to purge and you can dial it way back from default with good result. Dual Extruders would cut a lot of that waste and the AMS is quicker loading/unloading than most operators - so MC could be an almost pleasant experience. They'll probably get there. In the mean time, they still rock.

      @@BasilFawlty64 - I don't have a dog in this fight and maybe I'm iconoclastic, but whenever I see this level of Bambu evangelism, I have the urge to make a snide comment about drone engineers starting a 3D printer company, accelerated wear on carbon fiber tube motion control components, the AMS bearing blocks that break forcing people to print community designed Hydra to fix the AMS, etc. 🙂
