Magnificent and roughed, Scotland has long been a country of fierce independence and brutal power struggles. From ancient warrior kings who fought off battering waves of Vikings raids, to royal cousins who murdered each other for the throne. From the medieval monarchs who alternately sold out and fought to preserve their nation from the English, to the savvy Stewarts who built the Kingdom up and came to rule over all of Britannia. In this 5 part series, we’ll meet the Kings and Queens of Scotland from Kenneth MacAlpin, to Queen Anne.

Spain would be interesting because I’ve always been confused how all the little nations on the Iberian peninsula came together in to one country (well, technically two countries).
I took Western Civilizations in college, but they kind of ignored the Iberian peninsula and didn’t seem to consider it part of Western Europe until Ferdinand and Isabella started playing a role in world exploration.

After this series on Scottish royalty you should deffo do ones on the histories and royalties/nobilities of Wales and Ireland. They very rarely get taught in schools and stuff.

A few months ago my german parents celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with an organised bus tour through Scotland (almost two weeks long). They got incredibly lucky with the weather and to this day they keep fawning about the rugged beauty of this country ^^

Enjoy your trip to my country beautiful Scotland, as a scot I gave visited most of the places you will go to. Edinburgh Castle is awesome when in Edinburgh try and visit Mary Kings close which is underground it is so interesting and Eilean Donan Castle is where they filmed highlander the movie, I took my children there about 10yrs ago they loved it and got their pictures taken holding the actual swords and shields you guys ate in for a real treat visiting my homeland welcome to Scotland guys much love Arlene from Bonnie Dundee Scotland xoxoxo
I never learned most of this.
I learned some of the bits about England when I took Western Civ in college (I’m from the States and when I was in school, world history was not taught much or emphasized at all), and I picked up other bits about this part of English history in random places on my own.
But the only Scottish history I’ve ever learned from this era is Hadrian’s Wall, and that was covered in _Art History_ of all classes.
I’d never even heard of Antonine Wall until now, let alone about the Kings of Scotland.
I just had a vague idea that the Picts lived in northern Britain somewhere and Dal Riata was a term that had to do with that area, but I couldn’t have told you if it was a place, a language, a people, or a person.
I might have to watch this a couple times to learn it all.

A point I’d like to make about Poirot is that he’s smug, but he’s not a dick. He’s not constantly rude to people just because he believes he’s smarter than them. He can be condescending and gets frustrated, but generally he’s gracious, polite, and shows genuine affection for his friends. The scene in The Murder of Roger Aykroyd where he’s reunited with Japp is ADORABLE. His excitement is contagious. The series finale is so painful to watch because of how his infirmity makes him lash out at Hastings; it feels so out of character for him, but for some other detectives it would just be business as usual.
