Long ago, I called Tengen's hotline and had a nice conversation with one of their game councilors (it was the time when companies often ran help lines for their games). I mentioned the Room 79 title screen exit, and the person on the line, who had been told this by the game's designer, said it was "another of Morak's tricks." Ah, the days when games could do that kind of thing.
I played Gauntlet Legends so much as a child, it was one of my favourite game
Got to watch Yelsraek and Chessjerk working out the strats on Yels' stream several times. Been a big fan of his for a couple of years and so happy they got to show off their hard work here.
I never played the original Gauntlet, but I played Gauntlet Legends for the N64. One of my favorite games!

Idk what You mean by 'lost treasure' -- Gauntlet is never out of print; the various ports, reboots, spiritual sequels, and imitators are always preserved in various places on the internet.

The arcade game does not have an ending. Though there are so many levels, you'd have to play a LONG time before they repeat.

I remember playing this for the commodore 64 as a kid. Not surprised I never beat it. Great run!

We shoot the extra fight power potion for two reasons: 1. we need a bomb to clear the room and shooting a power up acts as a bomb 2. we already collected extra fight power in room 22, and as far as I know, extra powers beyond the first do not further improve stats
You're correct that's a fight potion! Shooting any power-up potion causes the same effect as using a bomb, so it's a good way to clear enemies without using a bomb (at the expense of not getting that upgrade). Fight power is not very important to this run, because the game is unbalanced and even a weak fight stat can let you run through most enemies with ease. So, in this case we prefer to save on resources instead!

How does the game's vault combination work such that it accepted whatever the audience voted on? I'm surprised this wasn't explained in the otherwise very dense & comprehensive commentary.
Sorry we missed this! This trick was discovered just 1-2 weeks before GDQ. In 1-player mode, it is required to enter the correct password, or it's game over. But in 2-player mode, only one out of the two players needs the correct password - the other player can leave it blank, or enter whatever they want, with no repercussions!
