@@mtnairpilot I don't think shunning is the right answer. You can still be polite, but choose not to spend time with them. Shunning would include ignoring someone in public, which is too far.
And if someone is in leadership.....and in public sin....not only do you do the four steps of church discipline...but also remove them from all leadership positions in the church.... pianist... organist.... worship leader......usher.... deacon.... Sunday school teacher...etc.
Reminds me of reenacting units. Everyone wants to be a chief and before you know it, the unit consists of 3 guys 1 captain and 2 sergeants. Church is a voluntary activity and churches that hold onto this mentality will shrink. The lord is who we answer to, and no other.
@@johndufford5561 I think he is implying that when you "divide" the church it will go against itself and fell. Which is totaly false. You "divide" some poeple in order to save the church. Its ofc about purity, not numbers.
So when is it crossing a line? Say a pastor is disciplining on an assumption thats been made.. this member hasn't been confronted at all and is unsure as to why others are giving the cold sholder treatment. His dicipline is open to the church and makes mocking comments as well as personal attacks. Is this wrong?
@@JayantSinghBisht that's right. My mistake. It was the Southern Baptist Convention that was making women pastors and there was a big to do about allegations of sexual abuse (allegedly). That's a shame , I grew up in a southern Baptist church.
@jamesmorgan2064 The Southern Baptist Convention did not ordain a woman in the role of pastor. A church that identified with the SBC, in California (Saddleback Baptist Church), ordained 3 women under the title pastor. They do not serve in the “lead pastor” role however they were given the title pastor. The SBC debated this issue and formed committees to address the situation. I’m sure we will hear more of this during their next meeting, which I believe is Feb. 2023.
Very thought provoking. I’ve learned that the church is NOT practicing this. In my large extended family the young adults are not getting married and they are having children out of wedlock. What do my Christian relatives do? They throw a baby shower to the young woman openly living with the man and professes to be a Christian. I have gone to some of my relatives, privately, and had some really good talks with them about God’s will for their lives. (They say they believe in Jesus). What I do is largely ineffective when other believers throw a party for that person. Same with the church. They have a “hands off” approach. I think because they want the person to continue to come, even sporadically. But I can tell you these young people think what they are doing is okay. I’m 63 yo and I don’t think I have ever seen the church discipline. But I have seen the fallout because they aren’t.
A follow up video regarding what it means and what it looks like to exclude a person from fellowship would be helpful I think.
I agree. When someone is removed from the church rolls, does that include what amounts to being shunned by the members?

@mattprater8828 What do you think about an unrepentant thief in the church that they overlook because he does so much free labor for the church?
This is so good timely ! NOW! Thank you 🙏🏾
Very well said! Thank you for this clear & biblical teaching!
We desperately need true apostolic leadership to have ecclesia government and church accountability ❤
Thank you, pastor, for taking your precious time to share with us.
Excellent! Thanks again!
We must have true covenant community to hold people accountable
What wisdom. Thank you.
Amen. Matthew 16!
This philosophy of discipline in love may be applied to all areas of life. Secular. Spiritual. Personal.

Should the regulations governing church discipline be written down? Thanks

👍🏻
What about a pastor that denies the church the right to exercise discipline?
unfaithful and most likely unqualified

I didn't see the connection between church discipline & Lk.11:17. Help me out here. What are you seeing that I am missing here?

Aren't you guys making female pastors?
No, they are complementarianism.

The most obscene word in English is "discipline." Only one other term is more disgusting--"church discipline."
