On May 17, 2015, Union Pacific ran a special train over Donner Pass on its return trip to Davis, then on to Emeryville. This train had dignitaries of Chinese descent whose relatives worked on the trans-con in the 1800s. We followed it from Emigrant Gap, down through Colfax, Roseville, Dixon, and as far as Pinole. Along the way, we caught a whole lot more!
John joined Mike Armstrong (@CoasterFan2105) on this day, chasing the UP Chinese Laborer Special as well as a bunch of other trains.
Now you get to see them too. Enjoy!

I know where all those coal loads are going. I used to see hoppers alongside I-580 in Richmond waiting to be unloaded.
Great Photography. I do suggest location captions would be a great addition for those of us not too familiar with the area.
Why where there 3 Same Passenger trains
I gotta be honest John, I dont usually watch rail fan videos but yours are top notch and addictive! Couldn't stop watching, thanks for such a great show!
I get it right sometimes, Ben! :))
Last month, I saw a UP Business train in Oakland. Also nice catch of the special!
So clean it almost looks fake, like a scale model...
It is a scale model, Known as Full Scale. :D
1:1 scale
Thanks for this one John. I noticed that the first dome car was the Missouri River Eagle, the same car my late wife and I rode in back in 1995 on a short Dallas to Fort Worth and return excursion behind the U.P. 3985 Challenger. Great memories!
Davis was the town I mostly grew up in - but haven't lived there for a very long time. Pretty cool, but I would miss the old Southern Pacific.
Hi John, excellent camera work on some neat trains. Thanks for the descriptions of the locos. Happy New Year to you and yours. - Crew Member Dean from Minnesota
Great Video John, This is one of my favorite video for this year. Happy New Year John
cdtx 8306 had a P5!
Chinese Workers? I think you got hacked
I updated the description. It had Chinese Americans on board whose relatives had worked on the trans-con.
Nice video but I don’t understand the Chinese workers officer Special.
This is just speculation but it could have been hacked.... not like don't hear about some company getting hacked every other week. Still very confusing.

TSG Multimedia So where does the word “officer” come from?
