All the diamonds powers have reversed from what they were. Yellow, who broke now fixes. Blue, who depressed now brightens. White, who controlled others lets others control her. Steven, who repaired and healed now destroys and damages.
That's exactly what was going on with Pink...
It's interesting because the powers that Steven is demonstrating now were actually Pink's original powers. Volleyball talks about it in Episode 4, about Pink throwing tantrums and her scream that could "crack the walls." Volleyball had no idea that Pink had healing abilities, because Pink only discovered them later. Losing Volleyball was a massive loss for Pink, so maybe that loss was the motivator for her powers to do a 180 like we see in Future with the other Diamonds' powers, or maybe it was during her rebellion that she discovered it.
@@emilyprice178this makes total sense. It’s not like his diamond powers are changing, he’s just reverting back to pink’s old powerset.
@@emilyprice178 I would think the show suggests it was after she reformed as Rose. Logically it just makes sense, regular Rose Quartz don't have healing powers, no gems do, if the only known gem to have healing powers was Pink Diamond and then suddenly there's rumors of a Rose Quartz with healing powers after their death that would be way more notable. Back when Steven attempts to have the Diamonds restore Nephrite the diamonds also seemed confused at the prospect of "healing", if Pink was known for having healing powers they likely would have addressed it there.
@@Whispernyan I mostly agree, although the show also suggests that Pink was giving life to the pebbles in her room secretly. I don't know if that would be something that any of the Diamonds could do, or if that was a power specific to Pink (like how Steven has the power to give life to watermelons). The pebbles suggest that maybe Pink discovered her power to give life through her creation of them, and then she kept it secret from the other Diamonds.
Sadly many(especially when SUF aired) don't understand that the diamonds aren't forgiven, but redeemed
Redemption isn't the same as Forgiveness and ever since the movie we can see Steven's clear discomfort at their presence
We don't forget what they did but they also learned and are actively making changes that can't be ignored
And many also don't know that their redemption was literally in Future!
I love the build up that future gives us, it gradually shows Steven’s ultimate brake down as he gets worse and worse and him trying to deal with it while simply bottling it up until it basically explodes😅
I really admire this show’s gutsiness to tackle the topic of intrusive thoughts, particularly when they are violent, scary thoughts. You can really tell with how Steven shouted “no, stop, I don’t like this!” in his hallucination that he was freaked out about the things his own traumatized mind was mulling over, but like… at the end of the day, they’re just thoughts. They’re not REAL. And if I had seen a favorite character have to go through this scary situation and come out the other side with unconditional support from family and loved ones as a kid, that would’ve been revolutionary to my mental state then. I think it’s really easy for us as humans to constantly “thought police” ourselves, but really… we need to give ourselves grace. Sometimes the brain just misfires and sends us spiraling into thoughts of things we’d never actually enact for real.
Steven-She’s the one who should be afraid.

These episodes hit kinda close to home around the time the show was airing for me and it really made me reevaluate my own mental health. I had trouble being open with people, and due these episodes I started to realize that I had to be, or else I’d explode. I’m still working on rebuilding my self esteem due to how people treated me since at least early elementary school, but I’m now at a point where I’m relatively comfortable with myself, though there’s room for improvement
I know people have mixed feelings about Future, and many wish that the original SU went on an extra season to pace things out, but these last few episodes of Future really tie up the story so well. If rushing the original SU meant that's why we got Future, I think it was well worth it.
I hope we see more of Steven someday. We saw him learn how to be a gem, how to be human, I think we need to see him handle being both. Or, how to be an "adult" or have a family. It would be interesting to see him have a kid, and reflect on if he should grant the kid his gem in the same way Rose did for him.
The reason why the original show was rushed was because it got cancelled because Rebecca Sugar (rightfully) wouldn't back down about showing Garnet's wedding. Basically they were told, "fine, you can show the wedding, but you only have one season left now to wrap up the whole show." But then the final season of Steven Universe was well-received, but by then it was too late for Cartoon Network to go back and say "actually you can have more seasons" because the team had already written and animated the final season wrapping up the story, so they were given the movie, and then the epilogue series. SUF isn't the reason why Season 5 of the original show was rushed. It was rushed because Sugar stuck to their principles, and Cartoon Network punished them for it.
@emilyprice178 I did know that! I was musing mostly if, the cancelation of the original show, meant Steven Universe Future became a possibility. I don't quite understand the programming behind it all (why would cartoon network cancel a show just to green light a movie and another 20 episode sequel), but I have to think Future became necessary to wrap up the story
The movie was already greenlit (or close to it) when the decision not to renew SU "classic" came down. Future was later approved by CN so that the Movie could have something to promote.
There’s a term for what Steven Universe is going through. War Veterans would call it “PTSD”.
I was so gagged I actually thought they would shatter white diamond but when I really thought about I was like naw it wouldn’t be that easy.
Sadly the only episodes where Steven isn’t dealing with any trauma in Future are, “Why So Blue” and “Snow Day”. All the other ones either show him falling apart more and more or show him dealing with certain changes that are happening around him that are making him feel worse.
Snow Day may not deal with the trauma aspect, but it does still show a bit of his unhealthy mental state. I think it showed how much effort the gems had to go through just to get him to play, to have fun, to not tie himself down with more work.

I honestly love Steven Universe Future because of how it shows the consequences and stress Steven went through during Steven Universe and how it affects his mental health.
Sometimes I wish I could also turn into a monster and rampage and then my family would come to save me. But that'll likely be on another lifetime.
Ooof yeah I feel that all the time. It’s like.. the deep impulse to self destruct in a massively visual and obvious way so people will notice your distress… but like alas, there’s also the sense that such a public breakdown (like the one Steven has here) would be deeply, IMMENSELY embarrassing and raw in a way that no person truly wants to have to go through :(
Blue diamonds happy clouds is just Marijuana
It's anything artifical, really. It's any type of medication or whatever else people use as a shortcut to happiness.
You have Yellow to express, "You can't just change your body to fix your mind", and you have Blue to express, "You can't just take something to feel happy all the time". All the methods of the Diamonds didn't work because they weren't permanent, quality ways to address his mental issues.

I wish we got to see more. I mean I am pretty sure they have more seeing as how Pink has like 10 unique abilities while they only have like 2-3.
These episodes are really scary. Steven is not being himself. His pink glowing powers is affecting and transforming him. The next episode will be intense

Personally, I think Blue's new ability could work...if it were taken in a DIFFERENT direction.
Her clouds create a sort of temporary happiness but what if she converted her water power to a more steam-like form, create a kind of incense or something of that variety
Seeing the diamonds abilities are great to see and wish we saw more of it. I love the build up that future gives us it show Steven’s trauma throughout the series.

HAH this… as context for anyone who might not know, immediately after this episode on live airing, a Frosted Flakes commercial played that was just “BRING OUT THE TIGER!! THE MIGHTY MIGHTY TIGER!!”
And after Steven's tense “I’m a monster” moment and spikes literally exploding out of his back in the final seconds, the sheer tone shift between this and the commercial was hilarious whiplash.
Steven: “You underestimate my power!”
Me: 😲“Don’t try it.”
Well that turns up to be a corrupted farm the next episode tomorrow
