Are these starts for you garden for the 2021 season? Feels like it’s too early but I’m trying to get a better handle on understanding when to start things. I feel like it’s very hard to account for indoor starts since the indoor environment has a huge effect on growth rate.
@@THERUSTEDGARDEN ok that makes sense I figured but you never know. I feel like someone with a low/high tunnel could get growing pretty soon even in 6A if they are growing something slow and intending on planting large starts.
Oh wow! I just was watching videos last week for uses of hydrogen peroxide in the garden, it's nice to hear some corroboration from a trusted channel that i subscribe to! I picked up a litre of 29% concentrated H2O2 at the local Farmer's Supply, which will save me so much money when diluted down to 3%! I also intend to disinfect my greenhouse and garden tools with it! Thanks so much for this reassurance, Gary!
It works well. Good luck. And yes dilute it LOL Please check out The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop for all your gardening needs: www.therustedgarden.com

Hi from Australia! 🦘🦘🦘Perfect timing for me too 😁👍. Great information. Thank you ... this is a great video! Btw, I I’m not sure about pricing in USA but down here I’ve found that in most pharmacies, the 6% solution is the same price as the 3% solution (same volume). The pharmacist told me to dilute it 50-50 (i.e 1 part H2O2 with 1 part water to get 3%. This is supported online. Just mentioning it because hydrogen peroxide is not particularly cheap here so one can get twice the quantity by buying the 6% and diluting it with water to get 3%. After that, one can continue with the further dilution mentioned in your video. I had already tried hydrogen peroxide but I wasn’t sure I was applying it correctly or whether it was just a drench or whether it was ok to get it on the leaves so, again, thank you for your clear outline. If any of your other Australian subscribers know the best place to buy hydrogen peroxide here, I would love to know, thank you.
Please spread the word through the Australian garden world. I live through you guys during our winters. Yeah mine is 3% so dilute it to that for my ratios. Always good to test spray too. This method works well for me. I added how I use it on tomatoes outdoors, in the video description. Cheers
Living in Adelaide, the best price for me was the Gold Cross brand from Chemist Warehouse, $3.99 for either 100ml at 6% solution or 200ml at 3% solution. My local Terry White Chemart Pharmacy sells the same brand, $5.95 for 100ml at 6% solution, and price-matched Chemist Warehouse. It is also available at Woolworths supermarket (different brand and more expensive). I'd also be interested in knowing if there's a better price out there!
@@teresazetlein3955 ... Thanks. I'm in Adelaide too 👍😊 and because of this very useful post by Gary, I started looking around for better prices. I found the Chemist warehouse option yesterday and have put that H2O2 brand on my shopping list! Thanks!

This was an excellent instructional video and I truly appreciate your efforts, and contribution to growing wisdom! Not sure if you are still responding to comments here- I just restarting growing soil sprouts (did it a few years back had great results). My first tray of sprouts on soil, radish sprouts, had a patch of damp off within a few days. My germination mix (ProMix BX) has been in my linen closet for a few years. I was thinking about baking it in the oven, but wondering if you thought I should treat the soil with hydrogen peroxide when I start the next batch?
I hydrate all my seed starting mix with boiling water. That seems to help. I might use h202 as the first watering too. That should be plenty for prevention. Thanks for your support and please visit.. Did you put involve perennials and flowers? Also I was I know your Genius the plants and preventing insects so I would like to ask you a question I have mix hot water and peroxide and put into my soil prior to using it on my plants is that going to be a problem or should I not use it at all? I certainly wish you lived next door and try to pick your brain regarding many questions that I have! But thank you so very much for the knowledge that you have given us you are very much admired by many people have a lovely day
My understanding is that its not the burst of energy that cleans the leaves but the extra oxygen molecule thats doing the cleaning. Oxygen helps with all sorts of ailments on the human body- wether rashes, cuts( burns on open wounds), hives etc... So I believe the oxygen is what is the real hero here. You can buy oxygen from cellcor that you can use on skin and every digest. Very good for the human body.
4:1, once a day, for fungus on leaves. Seed starts: soak them w the spray. 4:1. Fungus gnats: 2 parts water : 1 part hydrogen peroxide. Plants soak it up into dry soil.

Hi Gary thanks for the information. I would like to ask you a few things: is it possible to use HP to kill nematodes in the soil? and also considering that it kills the eggs of insects, would it be possible to use it also to kill the eggs nested in the soil of the eleurotidae which transmit viruses in tomatoes and solanaceae? what do you think about it ? use it as a bio pesticide or fumigant. HP is sold in hardware stores with high concentrations, 30% to whiten the wood, suitably diluted could it be used through drip irrigation systems?. But I don't know what effects it can have on mycorrhizae which are useful for the roots ...
I dont think so. You can try a neem oil drench. That is better but drenches are hard. People to do buy beneficial nematodes to fight bad nematodes and other insects. I just dont have a lot of experience with soil borne issues to help. Sorry. Please check out The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop for all your gardening needs: www.therustedgarden.com

Thanks @Gary. How often, or how many times in a row, can I treat my seedlings with this H2O2 treatment? Sorry if I missed this in the video. E.g. if I'm fighting back soil fungus how many soil treatments in a row might be safe for the seedlings? Or can the seedlings take this H2O2 soil treatment continuously?
So I havent done a lot back to back. But in theory you could. I might test it on a batch but if its bad, maybe every 3 days to get them under control. Hey Gary, question for you. So I was wondering if you’d recommend adding liquid kelp into the peroxide mix for some added benefits? One of my house plants got root rot and I sprayed down with 3% peroxide mixed w a small bit of liquid kelp to help with immune system. It worked well. Do you think it would work good for this application too? Thanks!

One word of caution I did not hear mentioned.... Be careful spraying the hydrogen peroxide, even in diluted form, around or on surfaces that are porous, like wood floors, carpet, drapes, fabric, etc. Hydrogen peroxide, has bleaching properties, and it will bleach or fade, your fabrics and furnishings. And that's something you can't undo. Otherwise, happy gardening.
Gary last two years I’ve gotten mold on our basil that eventually spread to all the plants. It started indoors about a month after I started them. Will the peroxide spray prevent possible outbreak of mold or stop it once it’s on the plant. Thanks for your help and videos
Basil is tough cause the leaves are sensitive to spray. I would test it. But go with this ratio first and test a few leaves. If leaves are damaged, increase the water dilution. Hello from Melbourne 🙃 My questions...if H202 kills fungal diseases, does it also kill good bacteria in the soil? Also, you spray your vegetable plants with diluted H202 ...are they actually safe to be eaten after having been sprayed repeatedly with the H202 solution? I'm probably overthinking 😅😇 Thank you 😊
Cheers. It would but you would have to put a ton outdoors to change soil microbes. Outdoors is for leaves. Indoors, in theory it, could. However, you dont need soil life for seed starts or you can add it back after the insects are managed.
I cant say 100% but out in the garden, I had less issue with them on beans and cucumber plants. You just have to get the undersides of the leaves. Please check out The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop for all your gardening needs: www.therustedgarden.com

Hi, do you think it would be okay to water my indoor garden plants periodically with a 4 parts water + 1 part hydrogen peroxide solution? If yes, how often should I do it? Are these starts for you garden for the 2021 season? Feels like it’s too early but I’m trying to get a better handle on understanding when to start things. I feel like it’s very hard to account for indoor starts since the indoor environment has a huge effect on growth rate.
Nope for demos

Good luck. And yes dilute it LOL

I bought mine at a Drakes grocery store in Qld Australia, price was reasonable
@@noelenejephcott6954 ... Thanks for that. I'm down in SA but will check it out. There's a Drakes not far from me. :-)

What about centipedes in soil
Sorry.

Do you think it would work good for this application too? Thanks!
For h202 I add nothing. You dont want it to react and be useless. I would add kelp after treatment when it needs watering again.

Good point. Thanks

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Thank you for writing back. I don’t think the spray is damaging leaves so I’ve kept spraying daily but the black mold on the leaves isn’t going away. I started a new flat of basil in case these don’t rebound. Last year when we put them in the garden with some mold. they struggled until they succumbed to the mold.
Last night I picked all leaves off that had the mold and sprayed again to see rebound.
How soon after you spray the seedlings can they go back under lights?
I give them 24 hours off.

Hello from Melbourne 🙃
My questions...if H202 kills fungal diseases, does it also kill good bacteria in the soil?
Also, you spray your vegetable plants with diluted H202 ...are they actually safe to be eaten after having been sprayed repeatedly with the H202 solution?
I'm probably overthinking 😅😇
Thank you 😊
Cheers. It would but you would have to put a ton outdoors to change soil microbes. Outdoors is for leaves. Indoors, in theory it, could. However, you dont need soil life for seed starts or you can add it back after the insects are managed.
Will it work on spider mites too?
I cant say 100% but out in the garden, I had less issue with them on beans and cucumber plants. You just have to get the undersides of the leaves.

My avocado plants 3-6 months in pots, the leaves get dark spots soon after getting water? Letting them dry in between watering?
I will try this next time I water
If you have multiple plants try it on one first. Its just good practice.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Is it OK to water top and bottom of potting mix with (4:1) ... and then plant my pre -soaked (4:1) seeds ? I'm on Maui and all my purchased plants have issues. And my yard also ! I was going to start many seeds but now I'm scared.
Hi, do you think it would be okay to water my indoor garden plants periodically with a 4 parts water + 1 part hydrogen peroxide solution? If yes, how often should I do it? I'm thinking of alternating an hp solution w plant food every month, (ex Aug hp, Sept food, oct hp, etc) . Also, last year I paid just over a dollar for 32oz bottle of peroxide. Last week the same item is selling for as much as $5 and change. Do you have any idea why the price has gone up so much? Thanks for your answers & you have a great chanel!
It wont hurt but I dont know the frequency. And do a plant or 2 and wait a week. Always test out new things.

When making the mixture. How long can it last in the container. I only spray two plants that I’m dealing with black spots on the leaves. I have a 1/2 gallon spray bottle and end up not using a lot.
H202 really won't last outdoors in sprayers. It begins to breakdown. But you would need to but it in a dark place. If the spray bottle is solid and its indoors, it last quite a while.

Planting time soon
Thank you SO much for this! My cuttings keep getting that white fungus. This is great! Here's one question I have- can I spray it on plants that currently have fruit on them? For example my blackberries have some minor fungal issues but they're developing the berries right now. I don't know if spraying something on it during production is good or bad.
Test out some h202 on the the canes. Only way to know is test and wait 48 hours to look for damage when trying the first time

It about 3.75 liters to a gallon I think. But I would look it up to be safe.
