    I loved this!!!❤
I started homeschooling 2 years ago, when my daughter was going to start high school. She told me she didn't want to go back to school...the academic demands, the bullying, etc were making her break in hives! She suggested homeschooling. My son, who was going into 4th grade, said he wanted to be homeschooled, too.
We've been loving it! The only regret I have is that I wish we had started when my kids were younger!!! All those years attending public school "scared" them. A lot of the innocence of childhood was lost due to conversations and interaction with peers. But...God is good! God is in control! He has my kids' future in His hands!!!
I'm looking forward to this 3rd year of homeschooling!❤❤❤

I grew up seeing homeschooling because my sister was one of the homeschool pioneers 35 to 40 years ago. She was also homeschool speaker and author. I also had three other sisters who homeschooled their kids for part of their education's. Even with seeing that much homeschooling, I didn't feel that I wanted to homeschool my kids. I'm a nurse and I was working until our youngest child was in third grade. I had three children who were all in a private school and my middle child was struggling and struggling. We brought him home just to help him get a jump start in the beginning of 4th grade. We ended up loving it so much and our other two children begged us to homeschool them too. The next year we brought the other two children home . Our oldest was going into eighth grade and our youngest was going into second grade. We knew pretty quickly that we wanted to homeschool the rest of the way because of the amazing changes we saw in our kids and in our family. We also turned the cable off around the time the second two kids came home and their creativity skyrocketed!! All three of them ended up with an amazing love for learning and reading. Those kids have all graduated from our homeschool
The oldest is 29 and the youngest is 23
We adopted two more children so we still have an 11 year old and a 9 year old to go. We absolutely love homeschooling. Of course there are days where it feels like we've all been together a bit too much but the good far outweighs the tough stuff! Another cool part of this is that I'm a grandma now and my son and his wife are homeschooling their four children, my second son is getting married this summer to a gal who has three little ones and they're planning on homeschooling them and my youngest daughter has a baby and she is hoping to homeschool him too. I take two of our grandsons to our weekly homeschool co-op with us, when we're not social distancing of course! LOL! So it's so cool to be part of a second generation homeschooling! I'm so excited about this series!! Looking forward to all the videos!

I started to homeschool our 5th when he was struggling emotionally...he is adopted and I began to find he was searching for the crazy and chaos of his old life. We brought him home to create a closer relationship with him. We have since adopted 3 more children and have decided to homeschool them as well. They are 5, 6 and 7. I have started some formal math with the 6 and 7 yr old. But most of our schooling comes in the form of reading and loads of coloring/arting. I have found that it has helped our 7 yr old close some of her emotional and motor skill gaps.
Praying as we go forward that I can meet everyone's needs!!

Hi Julie, we started homeschooling almost 4 years ago, my son suffered bullying at school, he was 5 years old, they hit him, they hurt him with a bathroom door and he became unconscious. We are Argentines and we lived in Mexico a few years ago. . We fight hard for my son to be accepted, for measures to be taken,
We did not get favorable responses, the only thing they said was that my son had health problems, which is not the case, he is a completely healthy child and if he were not, a school cannot discriminate against any child, so we decided to keep him in House....
    Anyway...
My method is a bit complicated, because I manage the educational program in Argentina, some things in Mexico, I base myself on the educational program in the United States and Finland, I also use Charlotte Mason's method a little, which is serving me a lot. In the beginning I used Montessori and Waldorf, but as you say in the video we also changed the methods, now in a funtion of what I told you before. By the way I loved your video, you are a beautiful person and thanks for sharing your experience, I really wanted you to make a video as I asked you for on Instagram. Thank you very much and I hope that many families will benefit from your experience. Blessings. Silvia

Mine is based on my own school experience, I was never homeschooled but I did go to university and learned a ton about the development in children and humans and how we each go at our own pace, that said I’d like to respect my children’s pace of learning and that’s one of our main motivations, also vaccines, We do not vaccinate our children and so they can’t go to a regular school.

I love this! My kids are 5 and 4 so this year was our first attempt at a "real deal" homeschool. They have loved "playing school" for years where we would do some fun sticker books and things. It has taken most of the year, but we've settled into a pretty good routine with my oldest, but I have a harder time with my younger. Some days she asks to practice reading or do workbooks, other days she wants to play with beads, then some days she doesn't want anything to do with any of it, but will hang around and sort of throw fits. It's so hard to predict what she'll want to do each day that I feel like some days she sort of gets pushed to the side while I'm working with my oldest. It's something I'm trying to come up with a solution to. We do sit down school for 1-1.5 hours a day then they are encouraged to play, explore, create, etc the rest of the day.

    • @jasonandjulie
      @jasonandjulie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sounds like an pretty typical four year old to me 😊 My 4 (almost 5) year old will sit with me for about 15 minutes a day to practice reading. And that’s it for our formal school that day! We have lots of snuggles and read aloud time throughout the day, but other than that he just plays the hours away. Play is the most important thing 4 and 5 year olds can do. If he wants I have workbooks sitting around that he can use for fun, just like all the art supplies we have here. I don’t start regular school work with them until around 6 years old.

Love this! What a wonderful May theme. I was homeschooled throught most of elementary school then went to private school and then on to public school. Loved them all for different reasons. We homeschool now for a bunch of reasons but one big one is that our child needs time to process things and can't move rapidly through tasks/directions/questions, etc. The freedom to allow that time has been so special and such a gift. We are very structured but I sometimes wonder if that's the best choice for our child. I look forward to hearing more of your story and wisdom.

It’s been a delight watching your channel. I’m very excited about what you have planned. I love learning about home schooling. I wasn’t home schooled and I don’t homeschool. Both my husband and I work full time so have never had the opportunity. But it’s a dream of mine. COVID has given more time at home (god has a funny way of answering prayers) so I have been helping my youngest (who has a passion for learning and reading) dive further into topics he loves. It’s been a blessing helping him learn more about animals, coding, and Area 51. So, thank you for the encouragement.

Looking forward to these videos from you! My husband was homeschooled from 4th grade on. I always said we would NEVER homeschool.. then it came time to send my now 13 year old to Kindergarten. He was doing some basic reading CVC type of stuff and knew how to add and subtract (all on his own interest) and he would get into mischief when he got bored. I knew that would be a recipe for disaster in school.. so I said we would homeschool for K. We just finished 7th grade yesterday and don't see us ever sending him to school. I won't say never since that is how I got started down this path. Obviously God changed my heart a lot from when I met my husband until it was time for Sam to go to school and now I absolutely love homeschooling and the freedom to learn what they love!

Every year that I homeschool I relax more, and let more go. When you start seeing the fruit of giving your children the freedom to pursue their own interests, you realize how much more they learn... because they really care about what they are learning. It is really fantastic seeing your children blossom when they explore the areas they are passionate about.

I am a homeschool mom to five children, my older three children started out at public schools when we lived in Missouri and continued public education when we moved to Arizona. While we were in Arizona they were attending a charter school which I loved and then one year they announced they’d be closing due to drop in numbers. I was talking with a mom at the school and she mentioned home schooling as she had moved several times like our family had and also didn’t want to switch her kids school again either. I looked into homeschooling and instantly felt as if God wanted us to go in this direction, my husband and I prayed, talked to some other homeschool families at our church and then went into the homeschool journey in 2014 and have been homeschooling ever since and we moved again to Mississippi in 2017 so I’m very thankful that we went with the homeschool idea. I love your channel and thank you for sharing your life with us I’ve learned so much from y’all. God Bless.

This is so encouraging. I started homeschooling 3 years ago. I started out just deschooling. And from their I said I didn't want to do traditional homeschooling using curriculum set days and times. I just went with the flow. My daughter was in 4th grade her school closed down and she was struggling with learning especially reading and comphension. I took her back just to phonics and going to library checking out books that wasn't a huge struggle for her to read with me. She loves to bake that where I would teach math and still do reading. She loves arts and crafts. And that's what we would do daily she has excelled so much. I brought the rest of my kids home. Currently homeschooling 12, 7, 6, 4, 3rd grades. But I don't go according to grade level activities. I love unschooling my kids do to. I wasn't homeschool, but I could have definitely benefited from homeschooling.

His mama pulled him out when she was unhappy with the reading curriculum and then again when he started to get a bad attitude 🙌. I never saw myself as a teacher until I became a mom. I decided to homeschool mostly because I wanted my girls to have a Christian education and also because they seemed WAY to young to be away from me for 8 hours a day at age 5😂. Hi! I have three children, ages 20, 11, and 7. I always wanted to homeschool but lacked the confidence and always feared we couldn’t afford it, even though public school is always asking for money. All my children went to or are currently enrolled in public school. However, with the pandemic I’m very seriously considering taking my two youngest out and hone educating them, starting next fall. Currently we are doing online school with the school system. It’s a lot and they are saying if kids don’t get it done before the new year starts, they will very possibly be held back a grade. My children are so much happier being home and have both told me they want to stay home. I found a completely free online curriculum, Easy Peasy, and it looks awesome! Thank you for doing these videos!

Hi Kreke family! We are a family of 6 and we've been homeschooling our four children from the beginning as well. We decided right from the very beginning that we too wanted to homeschool and so we did. I do doubt my ability to teach them the right way, definitely a struggle.

Love your story, thank you for sharing. We started out homeschool journey in November 2020. My son was in the 7th grade and Covid was a perfect reason to pull him out, plus God has been leading me to homeschool him. We have our days especially because he is a teen 😒 need I say more lol. We deschooled for awhile and now we do a block schedule system. I also homeschool my toddler as well whom has a slight speech delay so we work on his letter sounds and reading. I’m actually loving the journey even with the ups and downs of the teens attitude and my toddler meltdowns lol. I try to upload content sharing our journey. Thank you again for sharing your journey and experience with us

I just want to remind you of how much a blessing these videos are to so many! My husband and I grew up in the public school system with working moms, needless to say the idea of being a stay at home mom/to-be homeschooling mom is very intimidating and overwhelming since its not apart of my background.
THANK YOU for reminding me (which I tend to forget) it doesn't have to be that hard & take your time and READ. Even though I dont plan on unschooling that route leaves me with feelings of comfort that no matter what I do children usually are natural learners if you steer them in the right direction. Thank you for sharing your personal story ❤

Never a homeschooling mom ( I’m a RN) and my kids are grown but your story is very inspirational! Kids are all different and learn at different levels. It’s unfortunate public schools can’t ( won’t?) let kids learn at there own pace . It’s like everyone has to fit into a cookie cutter mold which is unfortunate for some kids! Glad your daughter has a mom who was patient enough to let her learn in her own time! Really enjoy your channel!

I went to public and private schools growing up. I always loved school and had great friends, and same for my husband. Happy memories. But looking back, so much of what stuck with me as valuable and shaped my life direction were specific experiences that I had outside of school. When our oldest of four was just a toddler, I met a few families who were homeschooling. It never really came into view before but over the next couple years, more and more people came across my path (and who I'd least expect) who had homeschooled their kids or were doing so. It really felt like God was telling us to take the plunge. So we did! That first year was difficult for me with constant doubts back and forth. We knew a lot of families at the local school and I struggled about whether he was missing out. But once summer hit, and I saw how much he was thriving... Talking about God, writing notes to siblings when he hardly knew how to read but was simply motivated by love, spending time with his brother who was born that year, it's priceless.... I'm so thankful that the Lord led us on this path and that I get to share my days with my children, rain or shine :)

Hi! So glad I stumbled upon your channel! I have homeschooled for the last 6 yrs. I have 2 kids in 7th grade & 1 in Kindergarten. We have tried different curriculums, and found that we are not textbook curriculum people. We want to enjoy learning each day & be excited about what we are learning about.
We started this journey when my daughter's 2nd grade teacher told her that she should have learned calendars in 1st grade. It wasn't her fault she didn't have a good teacher before & to sit down and figure it out. Teacher then got on her phone at her desk. I figured I could do better then that. My son got bullied all of pre-k & kindergarten. So I finally pulled them after doing a bunch of research & convincing my husband to let me try it.
Now we are getting to where I can't teach math (I stink at it) and so I'm looking for ways to help my kids learn the basics of math & to keep "unschooling" as much as possible.

I grew up going to public school and really didn't like it. I was always "sick" or would "miss the bus" just so I wouldn't have to go. My 11th grade year, I home schooled with my best friends family. It was then that I decided I would one day home school my own kids. I am homeschooling my kiddos now and have been from the beginning. My oldest is 11. I had the same thing happen with my oldest in Math that happened with your oldest in reading. I am so thankful that I was able to let him figure it out in his own time.

Hi! My name is Rebekah and I am also a 2nd generation home-schooler. My Dad had decided before my brother and I were born that he was going to Home-school. My Dad was a C.M unschooler. Life forced us into Public School in our High school years. This was good as it fueled my desire to Home School my own children. I have been intimidated because I don't remember how I learned to read and my Dad would say "that was long ago". But, we have been home-schooling for 2 years now and I am starting to feel better (still learning and failing but I have more confidence that I am going to keep going forward, growing and learning with my kids). I have 3 children so far (7,5,3 years old). My eldest has always been eager to learn and I have let her fly. My middle is happy to tag along but I don't push her. She is my squirrel child. My youngest just plays he isn't doing any focused learning (as I tell my girls we are always learning but sometimes we do very specific and focused learning). I am sorry this is long as you said to keep it short. My reasons for Home-schooling are I wanted a Christian foundation for my children, I don't like the atmosphere of Public school (the rushing/ fast food mentality), the bullying, the lost of innocence, the death of creativity, etc.... Anyway, this series looks fun! I can't wait to watch more :) Thank you for sharing!

Also, I'm just curious what type of a guidline did/do you have reading with your kiddos with how often? Lol i know not every day is the same but it helps to have some structure. I have a 1 year old and I read to him after every nap and before bed. As I have more kiddos I just don't want to end up dropping the ball on that. We took a trip not long ago and we didnt read much but I could obviously see when we got back to it he was definitely less interested. Haha i know hes young but being my first child I just want to foster something with him that i never had.

I had been wanting to homeschool for a long time when my children were younger, but my husband wasn't on board. It wasn't until my daughter was starting 4th grade (she's 16 now) that I made the decision to start. The public schools were in lived had switched curriculums from FCAT (for Florida) to Common Core (which I wasn't against). At the beginning of the year, the 4th-grade teachers had sent home a memo saying that there were lots of students that had a significant gap in their math learning and wanted the parents to work with the kids to bring them up to grade. Well, after of month of struggling to do that on the school's schedule I'd had enough and made the leap. I took only my two youngest out of school at that time. My older two had just started high school and I wasn't sure about doing that. I ended up having to take my daughter all the way back to foundational math (some adding and subtracting; and then multiplication). I didn't do anything strenuous. My son wanted a set schedule and I had started him on online public school (he was in 6th grade I think). Eventually, I started developing my own curriculum (tight budget) and found what worked. We moved from Florida to Oklahoma where homeschool laws were less strict and I made the decision to home school all of my kids. It was tough. I graduated the two oldest a couple of years ago, and one went to a year of community college before deciding it wasn't for her. My son turned 18 last November and opted to take the GED (we've since moved back to Florida). Now, I homeschool only my 16 year old. She'll be finishing up her 10th grade year. I wanted so much to do something similar to what your Mom did and what you do with your kids (I watched the new video). But, I find myself worried about Florida's requirements for evaluations every year. I wanted my daughter's last few years of school to be full of "delight-directed" learning. But, I rely heavily on a strict checklist of math, literature, history, science, and other subjects. Thank you for sharing your story. Maybe, as I work on planning for my daughter's next school year, I can learn to relax a bit on some things. I just worry about that evaluation, lol.

      @jasonandjulie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Wow yes. That must put an extra weight on your shoulders. Here in Missouri we do not have to do any testing or evaluations. I’m so thankful for that!

We are finishing our 6th year of homeschooling. When I just graduated college and was newly married I worked at a Christian bookstore and two of my coworkers were homeschooled sisters. That really got me interested in the idea and I began researching it at the library. I was mostly convinced when my older two were toddlers that I would be homeschooling. Then I had my third, who was a very difficult baby who barely slept. We were so sleep-deprived for over a year that I was not thinking straight. The time came where we needed to make a decision for my oldest and I ended up signing him up for public school. My irrational reasoning then was I wanted to have more children and I couldn't see how I would be able to do it if they were all difficult babies, lol. By MEA week of his 1st grade year, I knew I wanted to homeschool. By that time I had had #4, survived (haha), I was thinking more rationally, and things about public school were really starting to bother me. I ended up having him finish that year (probably would have pulled at Christmas if I had to do it over). I started the following fall with a 2nd grader, kindergartener, a preschooler, a 1-year-old, and pregnant - we started with a bang! We now 7 kids and the 5th will be going into kindergarten this fall. I still don't know what I am doing, haha! Thank you for sharing your story, I love hearing from homeschool moms who were homeschooled themselves. I tend to take a more relaxed approach as well and it makes me feel better to hear your story. I am looking forward to the rest of these videos!

Both my husband and I are high school graduates, my husband has a college degree.
I never wanted to homeschool, but we are heading into our 5th year and couldn't love it anymore.
I have two girls, 16 and 8. My 16 year old went to public school for a few years. The school she went to was out of our neighborhood, so we had to apply for her to go there. Our city then decided to no longer allow that and made all kids go to their local school. The school closest to us isn't that great, so we then decided to put her in a private Christian school.
When my 8 year hit school age, we just couldn't afford to send them both to the private school, and public schools still weren't an option.
So, we decided to homeschool. The first year was rough, I'm not going to lie, but now its become second nature.
I love all the time I have with my kids. I love that I've taught my 8 year old how to read. I love shopping for new curriculum. . . .
God placed homeschooling into our lives and it's been one of the greatest things I've done as a mom.

I loved this video! We helped our church start a Christian school - low these many years ago - our oldest was in the first kindergarten class. The class lasted one quarter since the teacher (my dear friend) realized how far behind her children were and resigned to home school them to catch them up. We two moms from the kindergarten class decided to home school kindergarten and have our sons ready for first grade. By the end of that year I knew I wanted to home school. When our oldest was ready for 8th grade I got a call asking me to come back to work for the school since the principal/teacher had resigned. They needed me to be principal since I knew how to order curriculum & record keep. After prayer we decided we would and my sister would babysit our baby boy. Our wee one ended up doing some Christian school and some home school until the end of 9th grade. He was wanting to home school, we told him to ask God about it (his brothers had graduated). That year the school grew too small and closed its doors so he came home to school. He quickly decided he needed to set his own schedules, so did his lesson plans and brought them to me for approval, took math and science at a university 45 minutes away during his senior year. All 3 sons graduated from university and went to work in finance and are doing well in their careers. I fear they won't be home educating since the 2 who are married wives were public school educated and feel it went fine. (I love them dearly 'daughters-in-love', but do wish my grandchildren would educate at home). God has so blessed and I pray many moms will learn from you, and perhaps some will start home educating as a result of what they learn from you!

When I started to gain interest it did not look possible, as we are a two income family and I needed to work to help support us. I so badly wanted to be home with my babies and I prayed continually about it. Randomly, God placed an opportunity in my lap. Hi, I went to public school and then went to college to teach. I taught special education in a public school for 5 years. When I had my first baby we decided I would stay home with the kids. I have curriculum for my almost 4 year old. We are doing math u see, handwriting without tears (which she has already moved up to the kindergarten level) and logic of English. We don’t do school everyday but she is excited to work on school when we get everything out. She is doing great on math and handwriting but struggling on some of the skills the reading program requires. We are just taking our time and making sure she is still having fun with “school time”. (I know she is only 3 but she enjoys it so I started her early) I also have 2 boys that are almost two and one on the way. We will start doing more hand over hand activities with the boys soon. They already love to color and cut. We also have a kindergarten curriculum for bible time that they all have been enjoying. I read a page in the Bible and there is a coloring/cutting page that goes along with what I read.

He has a youtube channel(gaming, vlog and equipment reviews/comparisons) and puts a lot of time into it. The hours that he has in it is probably enough for 4 credits, since he began in 2018. But, don't know if I should spread that out or should I call each credit a different subject name. What would you call that subject? Videography????Research???Speech??? Thanks for your videos they are very helpful to me and to so many others especially when the fear comes of not being enough or doing the right thing. Thank you Jessica

Hi! I went to public school as a child and went on to college to get my bachelors degree in elementary education. I got married while I was going to a community college. In my last semester at university (student teaching) I was pregnant with my first daughter (I now have 3 girls). I stayed home with her and then a job at my dream school became available and I took it. I taught one year and went right back to being a stay at home mom. I love teaching, just not at a school. Haha. Anyway, last year I decided to start homeschooling my daughter who was at the end of her first grade year. We began homeschooling her in 2nd grade and are almost done for the year! I love homeschooling. It has been really good for my daughter. She was having a lot of anxiety which resulted in headaches and stomach aches and all of that is gone now. She has developed wonderful friendships with other girls at our co-op also. It’s been great!

I got a GED and then signed up for classes at the local junior college. I started with just a couple classes to get used to college classes before I went to a full schedule. I did well at the college and was able to then get a full scholarship when I transferred to a university a few years later.

I homeschooled our kids from the beginning except for a couple of years. We knew we didn't want to send them to public school (we tried when they were a bit older and it was a disaster!) because I struggled in school and just felt like my teachers didn't really care. I didn't want my kids feeling the stress that I did. We tried so many different methods and curriculums it's not even funny! I hate to think about the money we spent trying to find what worked. We kept up with math and some grammar with traditional Christian textbooks. Eventually we ended up doing everything else as a group with tons of reading, writing and hands on stuff. That was after a LOT of failed attempts at different science, history etc curriculums. The couple of years I didn't homeschool they went to a Christian school and I was my two boy's teacher. They couldn't get away from me haha! My daughter was younger. My parents unfortunately made me feel like I wasn't doing enough with my kids but they all turned out really smart. One of my sons got a degree in computer science and he had to take every math class imaginable! Sometimes three in one semester. I don't know where he got it because he didn't learn it from me or his dad lol!

Helping my kids discover the special abilities that God created them with is part of my goal for homeschooling.

Yes it’s possible, but there are so many resources that make it easy on a mama. You do no need to know everything and be able to “teach”. You can learn with her. We use Teaching Textbooks for math and it completely teaches them everything and even has a hotline with tutors if you get stuck.
Also, The Good and the Beautiful has a language arts program that will walk you through every step.
Don’t be intimidated! You can do it 💕
