I absolutely agree. .357magnum is a very versatile and widely under appreciated cartridge across the board. From a rifle it is a great 100yard gun, accurate and packs enough punch to take just about anything in the lower 48 and tough enough to keep in an old farm truck. My daughter took her first buck with mine; ~35 yards, hat trick, one shot it was down in 20 yards. And it is hands down my favorite platform to hand load for. I can easily break 2200fps at the muzzle.
I bought the Rossi r92 tripple black 16 barrel 38/357, it's smooth out of the box, it probably had extra work done at the factory. Shelf price was $1299 + tax. CANADA. Also added a red dot. I think it will be an excellent choice for close range hunting in thick brush. .......thanks for the video.
D BX thanks! They really are fantastic rifles. I carry mine more than anything else in the bush. It’s fast and accurate enough to do anything I need in the Midwest
I recently picked up an R92, 357 mag, hex 24" barrel in excellent condition for a mere $400. An added bonus was that it was owned since new by a police armourer who had waved a magic wand over it, fitted Marbles tang and front sights and had seen very little use. Absolutely love it. It shoots everything with great accuracy. A true keeper. If you can find one, buy it.
Needs special loads thought. Other wise that length of the barrel can be a drawback using pistol ammo that is designed to maximize the performance of the today's defence 3"-5" pistols at 6-7 yrds range while minimizing the the flash. Slowest burning powders like AA7 and the heaviest ...and highest BC.. 357 bullets above .200 can make that 92 a 500 yrs rifle easily. If you are up to the task.
4 years later you find these in every gun store in my area in GA. I have been looking at the 44 mag stainless version. Hoping to get one in the next month or so.
can you see through the scope without putting your eye in reach of the receiver (idk the actual term for the piece?) I want to put a scope on mine but I can't figure out how to do it without having the ejected case going up into the scope. The only way I can think to have it mounted is the way you do, but it seems like it is way too far away from my eyes in a comfortable shouldering position
thanks for this video. with the cantilever on the rail it seems that scope sits a good bit above the comb. ever considered a cheek pad to get your head up a bit?
geobum the rings I am using could stand to be lower but honestly the way the rifle sits on my shoulder and being a long eye relief optic it really doesn’t bother me in the least bit.
@@chriswoody7702 right on, did you have any issues zeroing? im concerned the way the NOE mount fits it might have a slight upward cant that would use up a lot of clicks to bring the zero and POA together.
geobum that upward cant offsets the drop in the contour of the barrel. I did not have any issues with the NOE mount, I did however have issues with weaver mounts that were straight from rear to front.
These rifles are readily available!! Its the pre safety interarms models that are getting hard to find!! I was lucky to find a 16 inch pre safety with some seriously dark wood!! Had to have it!!
I just picked up one of these, pre-1995 92' Rossi Puma carbine /w sling ring. Great gun. Fantastic action even compared to Henry, Winchesters, and Marlins. And a much lighter weight than the competition - without sacrificing anything to get there. I don't know how Henry gets away with their 7+ lb monstrosities.
I talked to rossi-taurus, they told me that they were not manufacturing .38/.357 and had, at this time, no plans to start up again. If you can find one, what ever price you pay for a rossi .38/.357 is what it costs.
Joe2A America They are hard to find in the $500 price range. You can usually find a Henry pretty easy but as a hand loader I would be skeptical to run hotter loads in them or the marlins. The Rossi/Puma can be found in my area under $600 and in my opinion are built way better than the names suggest. I can’t count the number of rounds, including my hot handloaded hunting rounds, that I have through this gun with no complaints. Fantastic rifle. Couldn’t give me $1000 for it.
Hey BackwaterFowler, nice rifle I was lucky enough to find one in stainless and I went ahead and ordered it should be at my FFL in a week. I am really looking forward to shooting it. You mentioned you got the scope base from NOE bullets molds do you cast any bullets for your gun? I have a mold from NOE158 grain .358 Keith bullet that I might try. Any recommendations on a bullet that the gun likes? I did just subscribed to your channel Thanks for putting up the video.
Jim Phillips my best loads are 158gr JHP Speers over 18-20 grains of H110. I don’t cast my own lead and although a lot of folks love cast bullets out of these (1:30 Twist 😂) I use this mostly for deer so the JHP Or 140gr FTX have been my go to for it. You will love it. I actually traded this rifle off for the Mini 30 and then traded the mini 30 for a Beretta A303 and missed the Rossi so much I traded a motorcycle for it back.
W I am looking foreword to getting the gun... I like the way the FTX’s shoot in my 686 I may give those a try. Thanks for the reply, good shooting to you.
Jim Phillips I’ve got a couple real productive loads developed for it. The 140gr FTX over H110 has been my most accurate but 125JHP at about max capacity of H110 is running over 2100fps and will put a hell of a dent in 3/8 steel at 50 yards. They will drop anything from coyotes to deer at 100yds
@@chriswoody7702 lol…… such backlash …. Traditionally you seldom see scopes on lever guns , since they usually use short range cartridges and generally benefit very little from the addition of optics….. it is like buying beautiful teak wood furniture then painting it white…..
@@donaldmartin4980 well by jumping in with a statement solely intended to challenge the configuration of a rifle for absolutely no reason warrants a response of the same caliber. If a scope on a lever action is definitively blasphemous explain the Angle Eject model 94 produced by a manufacturer who is arguably the expert on the platform. Maybe the scope isn’t for you, and that’s fine. I enjoy a good pair of iron sights most days. But this particular rifle was set up for youth/novice shooters to hunt whitetail. And while it is a shorter range cartridge, it is accurate and effective out to 100yds and the scope really helps keep the groups consistent at that yardage. Much the same reason we put optics on pistols and even shotguns. It isn’t blasphemous. It’s just not for everyone.
@@chriswoody7702 well stated, by the way I have a Rossi 92, sixteen inch barrel .357 magnum…., everything I ever pointed it at went to my freezer, except for the coyotes. @@donaldmartin4980 highly underrated cartridge for most of the game in N. America mostly because of its range. But I rarely take deer beyond 50yds anymore so if you can keep them this side of 75yds it’s a rifle every hunter should own. Ours are utility guns. Paired with a pump 12ga and a .357 revolver they pretty much live in the farm truck.
357 out a rifle is no joke. I own a Henry and love it. Lever actions should be in everyone's gun safe. Excellent video.

Damn that's high! I have a Winchester 92 on order, for whatever reason, its been months, only $800.00 from local gun dealer here in SC. Canada sucks!
I bought a 16" stainless steel version, I have not had any problems. I absolutely love mine. Good video and good review!

Crazy how they have all of a sudden come back. For years you couldn’t find them anywhere. I saw a stainless 20” NEW at our big shop near me.

I run a revolver scope on my r92. You can really use any scope with a good eye relief
dude the safety is super intuitive and doesn't stick out weird or anything idk why people always talk shit

i just wanna ask where did u get a 357 shell holder for your buttstock? I cant find one anywhere?

Modern Henry is just a name now. The rifles are not all that great.
Your smoking dope...henry is top notch top to bottom. And american made. Educate yourself
