I used to have 2 X 5870's and had to use an adapter. Well the adapter would always make my monitor shut off. I ended up going with GTX460's and I am very happy I did. It just works and works well.
You probably have an answer for the video problem already, but the solution is that you need an active adapter for the card to have three monitors connected to one card. The active adapter connects to the card and a USB port to provide additional power, resolving the issue you described. The adapters are around $100.00 each for a dual DVI adapter.
You watched us do it and thats the bezel compensated numbers that the CCC gave us.. It also seemed to work pretty good in game as far as compensating for that bezel.. There was a larger res that we also tried.. "fail boat"..lol..
Regarding the triple screens, Display-port is no longer necessary on the R7 260X and the R9 cards, works fine on the DVI and HDMI ports alone for up to three monitors. That saves a few dollars. Also for those who may be wondering, the displays do not need to be the same size but it will then require further tweaks to ensure the center of the screens is correct, and the images wont be quite right as you will be forced to have some content off screen or extra borders on screens, the aspect ratios on each screen will be slightly different, and the color/brightness/contrast of the monitors is unlikely to match. I am currently testing 22, 22.3 , and 23 inch screens on the R7260x (I grabbed everyone else's screens while they weren't looking) and they look very good iracing.
Guys, this fantastic show keeps getting better and better. Keep it up! One day I will have the time and money for a triple monitor setup. Also, i thought that LFS got an advanced setup mode for a triple monitor setup with the latest patch.
I recently built a similar AMD system, the only differences being that I have an HD5870 card, and 8GB of memory, on an ASUS CrossHair IV 890FX-based motherboard. That system rocks! I'll be sure to post pics in the ISR forums. Great episode!!!
SoftTh is what I have been using for about a year for triple monitors. You can set it up almost any resolution you want, adjust the pixels to fix the overlay from the monitor frame.. plus the best of all.....its FREE !!
@BOS4O We tried it with LFS.. We used iRacing because it's constant development. LFS is a great sim, but very dated now. We're looking forward to an update when they release it
@mink85 the thing is that when u play for example rfactor or arma games. lets imagine you are looking north, you have to press 9 to look Northeast and 7 to look Northwest so with the 3 monitors you dont need to look right and left so your peripherial vision is more real, Much much much real. thats why 3 monitor is so important. until someone makes a curved monitor with real perhiperial vision. hope it helps
@mink85 It's called "field of view" 3 monitors > 1 monitor when it comes to field of view. Play for a bit with 3 monitors and regardless of the bezels, you'll apprectiate the extra field of view to the left and right.
Also wanted to mention that you can do triple screens with Nvidia now using 2 series, and 4 series cards. You have to be running two cards in SLI though. Like I said in my other post, the nvidia option is a much better option. I had way to many issues with Eyefinity, nvidia surround just works. I have had no issues at all. Also it did not seem like your Bezel Management was correct. 3 x 24" should be 5760X1200 without Bezel, so with bezel it should be higher then that like 5900-6000X1200.
Also crossfire is basically like SLI. also not sure you want to use Vsync in a racing game as it increases input lag if triple buffering isn't enabled. Also you can get a display port on newegg or ebay for much cheaper than staples. Last you could have gone the HDMI route with DVI as that would have been easier to find a cable for
You really need to set that triple-head up with the correct FOV. Go to the RSC Forums and search for my "Setting up your Driving View" thread. It has some simple measuring and math to setup that rig as a full simulator.
They should make a 3-in-1 Monitor that is just super wide to let you have that same experience or a monitor that's shaped in the proper formation already, giving you seamless viewing.
@dark2koneko fail on your fail boat, the bezel compensated resolution isn't included, you can have 5040x1050 with or without bezel compensation, the resolution itself doesn't change. When it's on the driver pretty much adds extra hidden pixels, but they are not included in any resolution settings you would select for a game or windows display, but I'm pretty sure you can adjust the bezel size in catalyst control panel. Basically you are wrong dark2koneko
Nice show...I love how you Americans try to speak German^^ This triple screen thing is very cool. PS3 + GT5 + Fanatec RennSport + 3 37"Screens = ...Unbelievable... You need 3 PS3 to play with triple screens. That's unaffordable...We need something like this Eyefinity for NVIDIA (PS3)!
@mink85 puts your hands on your face and cover up half of your eyes while you are driving and you can see how big a difference peripheral vision makes. It's night and day. This is called field of view.
Hi Darin, I have a 5770 which supports Eyefinity too. The thing is, that the question you get "Would you like to adjust bezel compensation?" does not appear on my CCC after grouping the two monitors. Do you know if there's a way to access this compensation screen besides that? Excellent show by the way. I'll be sure to get me a third monitor now. :)
@jaycoblikescars might wanna check the power req. 110v or 240v. US would be using 110v, Australia i'm not sure. either way u'd might need an converter or something
@mink85 if you have never experienced triple screen , then you cant know what the difference is. I switched it from a 50" to three 24" screens and it is 100 times more fun to race with it.
((1 of 2)) I have a 52" Sharp Aquos and it's absolutely beautiful.. Now I wouldn't switch to 3 smaller screens just because I couldn't afford to get 3 monitors with anywhere near the picture quality of the Sharp... even if the wrap around is cool- and I know it is.
I'd say you guys need to work on your audio, ads come om perfectly clear, but the show itself sometimes I can find it hard to hear sometimes. If it's not to much trouble, I'm looking at getting a gt3rs or a g27, I have heard there is FFB issues present with the g27, I dunno much more other then that, but ya was wondering if you guys have ever had any issues with it, or there is something noticeably off with it.
@RockeRkid28 for Sim PC is where it is, it is'nt just about the full game upon purchase but the constant evolution of that particular title that keeps it alive. Dust off ur PC and give GTR2, LFS or rFactor a try. MInimal system req. maximum fun
Thanks for all the info guy's very helpful on getting a setup going.! Is it possible for you to show shots from behind the monitors so we can see what mounts were used for the triple screen mounts? Thanks!!
@mink85 last Spring I decided to put my 52" LCD on top of my desk, thinking to run one very large screen instead of 3 smaller ones. You can get a pretty nice wide FOV in iRacing and other games if you sit close enough but since you only have 1920 pixels across instead of 3 times the resolution with 3 monitors for a similar space, the pixels are blown up too much and the game does not look very good at all.
What triple monitor stand did you guys use? I am still looking for one. I use a passive display port to VGA adapter for $25 and have the other 2 monitors connected via DVI and it works perfectly.
cheap way to get Eyefinity is two DVI monitors and 3rd DON'T NEED to have displayport.. you can have displayport - vga adapter, not active dvi - displayport adapter to achieve this. active displayport adapters costs a lot.. but passive vga - displayport adapters costs 20$ only thing you lose, is DVI's screenquality.. but VGA works if you fine with little less image quality
Hmm ,strange,Darren says that the new system uses the onboard soundcard but there's an Creative X-Fi soundblaster card in there.I've never tried any onboard soundcard that matches something like that and not to use it seems kinda wasteful :)
I have one question. How do you physically measure the angle of the monitors? Or is it just a figure that you estimate in the FOV calculator to your preference? Thanks!
Great video cant wait to see what has to be done to get 3 monitor set up on Nvidia. I have 2 gtx 260's in sli so i really want to see what i need to do to get 3 monitors
@b4revenge Wow, thank you. And yeah, the prices do look pretty reasonable. I'm still waiting for a reply from wall-graphics (they do much bigger sizes), but I'm definitely going to give these guys a try aswell. Thanks again.
@jaycoblikescars I just checked the PSU for my G25. The plate says it's working with inputs of 100-240Vac, 50-60Hz, so looks like it should be OK wherever you use it (Euro guy here). Just curious - what AC voltage do Aussies have over there?
How does this card alone handle the max resolution on 3 monitors in rFactor, LFS, iRacing? Do you ever have to compensate graphics for FPS in any of the games in any condition, for example a heavy track and full grid?
You guys seem to like mod nation racers just wondering if you guys have triedout Blur it's just like Mario kart except it's more grown up with licensed cars from many manufacturers including Aston Martin and land rover it's great no forza 3 but it's a hoot !
@Dehumanizer6666 no i havent, but was not my point, i know that most cars in the game can be used for drifting. My suggestion was to make a own section of the game only for drifting, with leagues and championships, like Formula D or D1 Champions
How many subscribers are here for Jessica alone? Damn. I love sim racing but this show would be dull without that eye candy. Not objectifying, but acknowledging ISR's choice to use a "booth babe" to host this show.
She has a nice double screen setup.
Jesus "H" Christ!! I love this show...problem is, I get so distracted, I still don't know what it's about?
papa jo hmm, yep, still, and that's what I like
"H", as in "H shifter", right??!
I can't stop looking! Damnnnn.. Ok ok.. I'm listening.... DAMN
love that top jess, oh my god.
I used to have 2 X 5870's and had to use an adapter. Well the adapter would always make my monitor shut off. I ended up going with GTX460's and I am very happy I did. It just works and works well.
eye contact level 200,000
i cant stop looking in the left side of the video...

@mink85 Big difference.. We have a 42" LCD that we can use in the studio and the effects aren't the same.
Nossa, sobre o iRacing, vídeo de 2010, hoje já está muito mais evoluído, já na época era um revolução, agora então!. iRacing, fantástico !!!
I recently built a similar AMD system, the only differences being that I have an HD5870 card, and 8GB of memory, on an ASUS CrossHair IV 890FX-based motherboard. That system rocks! I'll be sure to post pics in the ISR forums. Great episode!!!

I run with an Antec Case too, they make good cases. (I decided to build my own and get an awesome rig for very cheap.)
Great triple screens, I hope you guys use this for all car demo-ing for the show.
@BOS4O We tried it with LFS.. We used iRacing because it's constant development. LFS is a great sim, but very dated now. We're looking forward to an update when they release it
iRacing looks Awesome in this setup.. Thats the way it should be used!
@detergent99 Next time we will.. they don't have a local shop here I bet though.> We needed it right away.
Thanks for the tip !

love the show, keep up the good work.
38:43 - A triple screen setup makes getting passed AWESOME!!
:)
awesome as usually
@Morongotongo123 You can with an adapter. We'll be doing a follow up on our show soon.. You don't need to have a display port
Also crossfire is basically like SLI. also not sure you want to use Vsync in a racing game as it increases input lag if triple buffering isn't enabled. thank you so much for the triple screen explanation
VW Van in Portugal is call Pão de foma, please keep the good work
Rfacor 4ever
They should make a 3-in-1 Monitor that is just super wide to let you have that same experience or a monitor that's shaped in the proper formation already, giving you seamless viewing.
Great video once again guys, but where did you get all those huge gran turismo wall pics ?
5 years ago ISR was cool.
Love the drumstick pointer Darin!!
Get that silly bald man out the way.
@dark2koneko
fail on your fail boat, the bezel compensated resolution isn't included, you can have 5040x1050 with or without bezel compensation, the resolution itself doesn't change. @mink85 puts your hands on your face and cover up half of your eyes while you are driving and you can see how big a difference peripheral vision makes. It's night and day. This is called field of view.
@eza112 We'll have to try it and report on it.. Thanks for the tip..
maybe iRacing should take a look at Drifting? would be cool to have that included. And to have a proper Drift Championship!
@robilove At the end of the show we tell you about the wall graphics
Hi Darin, I have a 5770 which supports Eyefinity too. The thing is, that the question you get "Would you like to adjust bezel compensation?" does not appear on my CCC after grouping the two monitors. You should do a top 10 sim racing games of all time list.
@JamesACripps Next show !
@Oddtime We built one out of 80/20 Extrusion Tubing
@jaycoblikescars might wanna check the power req. 110v or 240v. US would be using 110v, Australia i'm not sure. either way u'd might need an converter or something
@mink85 if you have never experienced triple screen , then you cant know what the difference is. I switched it from a 50" to three 24" screens and it is 100 times more fun to race with it.
I think you should compare a projector setup against 3 monitors setup. I can't decide which to choose.
That question was in reference to iRacing. Thanks!
great episode jessica.

Thanks for all the info guy's very helpful on getting a setup going.! Is it possible for you to show shots from behind the monitors so we can see what mounts were used for the triple screen mounts?
Thanks!!
Excellent video as always!!!
Man, Shaun's laugh is awesome!
2way SLI GTX480's. No display port needed. No need to lower settings.

@mink85
32" = 28" width = 65°-70° optimal FOV (iracing calculation)
3x 22" = 57" width = about 150° optimal FOV (iracing calculation)
What triple monitor stand did you guys use? I am still looking for one.

What about the bold borders of the monitors, that interrupt your sight... didn't they bother you, at all? Another contra?!
Would like to see a setup with three 100 inch monitors, that would be awesome!

Can you tell me where you got the big GT5 poster you have in the background at the start of the show showing the long straight of the Nürburgring?
@Dehumanizer6666 no i havent, but was not my point, i know that most cars in the game can be used for drifting. My suggestion was to make a own section of the game only for drifting, with leagues and championships, like Formula D or D1 Champions
@zeuz87 you haven't driven the Silverado or Nationwide car the last two builds have you ??
@Makron5 there is a monitor like this! Search "curved monitor"! it costs around 10 000, Eyefinity is much cheaper compared to it!
How many subscribers are here for Jessica alone? Damn. I love sim racing but this show would be dull without that eye candy. Not objectifying, but acknowledging ISR's choice to use a "booth babe" to host this show.
27:00 start
@mink85 actually the point is for some people like me, that use a very close or very high FOV in the game, so the game ''cuts'' the side a little
great show :D
I think they should special tripple screen monitors that don't have these black bars.
Im loving this!
Inside SIMracing reviewing modnation. Boo-yah.
i'm really wait to see how the oculus rift will work in simracing
@Sunedosa I forgot to take that card out.. we're using the on board sound.. That card didn't work out for us
are you sure thats onboard? I saw a X-fi sound card in there
you don't need displayport if you have a motherboard with ATI video onboard
LFS Has many options about 3 monitor set! why you people play only iracing ?
Iracing rocks triple screen!
as always.. awesome ;)
You sponsor a guy on a game? Cool!
MM Jessica what a hotty ...
