Really nice seeing the care Shaun put in to that build. My grandfather was car paint sprayer and I learned the benefit of filling, sanding, sanding some more, painting, sanding again. The end result is totally worth it.
I built this whole rig without using any of the plans. just watched videos on it...changed what i wanted and boom. All done and nice. Thanks ladies and gents
Built this about 3yrs ago and love it, very sturdy. They mentioned it not being for the taller guy and I’m 6’ 2” . I mounted my pedals to the rig (csl elites). I have to slide my seat forward about 6 or 8 inches.
Sim-Seat SR-X is a solid rig.. I converted my SR-2 (centerpost design) into an SR-X by buying the upgrade kit.. it's a great rig with lots of adjustment range. Got the tilt wheel deck and Fanatec Pro shift upgrade too. I got mine all in silver with blue seat with black suede panels and it looks great. I think the all black is a little plain looking. When you watch the review-- the seat is damaged. My seat is perfect, no wrinkles in material.
Patience, patience, patience. When I built the deck I actually glued and screwed the plywood to the bottom. I discovered my mistake days later when I made the sideboards and tried to fit them to the base. I couldn't believe I did that! You have to be able to laugh at your mistakes or you will get too frustrated to finish. I wrapped my rig with black and red carbon fiber vinyl and installed t-molding onto all of the edges. Thanks for the vid guys!
A pair of wheels on the front end so when you lift the back you can move it easier if needed could be an addition for any 3 of these Rigs. Just lift up the back end as you would with many exercise machines. Love them all. Thanx guys and lady.
Very interesting. I have purchased the plans and now have ordered the triple monitor plans. I am not a car sim junkie, I however, play space flight sims like, Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous. With your DIP, I see that I will be able to modify this to my size and the accessories that I will be installing like my Warthog HOTAS.. Great set of videos. Thanks Steve
I'm building mine now and I'm 6'4" also. It's nice that he's now got the option for larger people on the plans which lets you cut larger foot well sides. Funny enough I checked my deck piece twice to make sure I was screwing it on the right side. :)
I watched all your DIY racing rig's and I am completely going to build this one. Almost chose the PVC one, But this one just looks so much cleaner. Gonna try and get a cheap bucket seat at a pick-n-pull.
And thank the Navy for this... attention to detail! Between the 7:18 and 7:21 mark... you can see " The Builder " looking down his assistants low cut dress. Well done Sir... well done.
I will say I like Fanatec and Fanatec products. I just bought the CSR wheel, Elite pedals, CSR shifters/set and I love it! A company should not hold grudges though, and should take criticism and use it to improve their products- not sever relationships over it. Although I don't think that even happened or if it did that isn't ALL that happened. Who knows. That's their business, not mine. I hope they get it sorted though as it would benefit Fanatec, SRT, and the customers/users/fans. That's all.
i completed the pvc rig some time ago, and considered building this one for some time now but kept getting distracted while watching. for height and some differrent options, consider power seat a seat from a late model chevy suburban, its way more comfortable and adjusts height , tilt, lumbar etc 50 bucks from junk yard and if you are obsessed with the racing sead just swap the rail also some models have heated seats. you will need a 12v power source mounted under the rig with about 6ft of cable to reach your surge proitector.
Wish I would have watched this before building my rig. I just built my rig last week, got the blueprints and use the "tall" options for the pattern and it's still way too small for me and I'm only 6'0''. Im going to sell my rig for cost to a shorter friend of mine who fits in it perfectly. He's about 5'9''. Oh well on to my next build.
Shaun or Darin just got some major questions on this build where would you put the keyboard on this if there was more time and 2nd question was what kind of seat is that in that build. I Like the way it looks just looking at other ways of the DIY Rig. For me I do more then just sim race, I play Battlefield 3 so coming from my view about this as to where the keyboard would be
Got a bit carried away on the sanding? I think that was worth it. That thing looks great, like an off-the-shelf product. Like the paint job too, all black would have been boring.
I am in the process of building one of these rigs. I now know what Shaun means by laying the rig out. I am in the process of making all of those fine tune adjustments. Mine will be built for Sony PS3. I have posted a slideshow on my channel.
Great job to everyone involved on this build! I have to agree this is the best of the three that were built. The paint turned out really nice. Was it rolled on, sprayed, or brushed?
Just baught the plans... I am 6'3" and I noticed Darin had a little bit of a problem being comfortable in the rig. Is there a way to maybe add like 2-3 inches to the bottom of the footwell housing where the 4 bolts are to maybe raise it up a little? Do you think that would work?
I really hope you guys and Thomas will end "shelving the battle ax" one day. That's sad you are not reviewing Fanatec products anymore. I really would have liked to have your point of view on the CSW to be able to compare with mine.
This is just something i want to get of my chest... I was in milan (a city in italy) in the ferrari strore this morning and there was a complete repleca of a f1 car with inside a thrustmaster t500rs with the f1 wheel mounted on it and the sim you could play was ferrari virtual accademy. So i decited to go for a spin. But
Hmm, that came out really well. Have to say once again Profile iron and a welder. For me atleast easier and you can also do it alot smaller but still sturdier. But on the other hand it looks less like a furniture. THat almost looks like a funny desk. My rigg more like industrial equipment but you could always add wood panels to mine if your inclined. Im too lazy, havent even painted mine. Iron is so easy to work with. But i guess for someone who havent welded before it might not. Dont know.
I bought this and it will be complete in about a week (I am disabled and am paying somebody to do it for me) I am right at that height limit area. Do you guys know of any racing seats for heavy people? I go 320 lbs. right now but used to be 465 so I am dropping. Thanks for the help.
Is it sturdy enough to handle a direct drive system (Such as the OSW)? Great video guys, I like this rig a lot, simple yet easy to add multiple other accessories like button boxes a shifter etc.
if you make 2 of these and get a tv for each one can 2 players play against each other in games like daytona usa and sega rally championship, that wud be my dream
love your show. thanks. im building the ricmotec RS1. Do you guys review seats? Trying to find a cool comfy racing style seat that doesn't cost and arm and a leg. Thanks guys DSN
Can i just buy everything n take the drawings to home depot or local wood shop n have them pre-cut everything for me? Btw this is the sickest one so far but so expensive to make i like the pvc one alot too
Make a simple two-frame spring suspension rig using 1" steel interlocking pipe and fittings. Attach two ButtKickers, one to the pedal end of the suspended frame and the other to the seat end. I'm designing one like that now.
Forgot to add that the pedals, seat and wheel will be mounted to the steel pipe by extra-strong cable ties through drilled holes, all nice and centered/balanced. No wood required.
so i have a question..i can go to your website and order a sim wheel as of 5.12.20....im having a load of issues finding one....i ordered t150 pro and a shifter add on but the wheel got canceled so i just have a shifter i cant use////can i order t150 pro from your site and actually get it
I think the reason they went with MDF for the top and side panels was because it is easier to get a finished look. If you used plywood you'd need to use a lot of body filler and hours of sanding to get the same level of finish. That being said I'd use plywood too just because MDF is nasty stuff to work with and creates toxic dust.
Agreed, I'm going to build a rig soon (hopefully) and I think this is the one. I'm planing to build it mainly out of plywood, it is cheaper and easier to work with and don't split as easily. Regarding the look of the rig i think it will be just fine, at least for my first rig. Thank you for the reply and second opinion.
+Marius Egeland how much does that cost? im slowly buying everything, and will soon buy the plans. whats the benefit of plywood? i know its cheap, but is it sturdy?
I was planning to build a ricmotech for my g27 and i was just wondering do you have to invert the pedals because I want to play go kart on gran turismo
And this is why im going with the omega rig yeah it isnt the prettiest but its hgiuer off the heound then most and its os damn sturdy the point where there is like no flex
1) Well I'm not going to continue discussing it here beyond this post (continued), it's probably a sensitive subject and honestly I doubt anyone but them knows the full story. I never heard that criticism, and I've watched every video SRT has made, many multiple times. Obviously (or not), I'm on SRT's side because of what I do know about Derin and what I do know about that company outside of the fued. That's just a judgement cal on my part but I bet I'm not alone in that thinking. -continued >>>
then there where some things i thought that where so stupid: there was no forcefeedback at all because they had not download the drivers. The car was always running in 7th gear so i was soooooooo much slower. The game was not even running in hd and almost all the visual settings where on the lowest settings so it
Take your time, multiply the hours you will spend by minimum wage. Add to that the cost of tools, materials and plans. Then add the cost of a racing seat because it won't look nearly as cool with a junkyard car seat installed on it. What kind of racing rig could you buy? If you have the spare time and you already have the tools and can scrounge all or some of the materials then you're in, otherwise it's not cost effective. The fact that you can customize it is cool and DIY has it's own satisfaction but know the full cost going in.
was pretty hard to see everything. And the last of all.... All the driving aids where on including the raceline, but i could understand that to make it not as hard. BUT i enjoyed it non the less :)
I think height of this rig is about 30 inch is best for 6 feet height person i am build.this for me my height is 6 feet please answe me sir this height is best for 6 feet person

you can always get a cheap ricer seat off ebay for $120 brand new. unsafe in a car, but fine for this. the only seats I've ever seen used were overpriced and nasty.

Need a video please!
i didnt make one sorry. I never think of it. i should of made one
Look for RobHoffmann20. He made a great video that i used. Its in his popular uploads section.. Let me know
Yeah I'm thinking of building mine so I'm interested in seeing yours let me know if you do upload a video sometime I subbed to you..
i just posted a short video

Or you could get a wheel a build it for both! That's what I am thinking about, just got my T300 yesterday... :D

Guy's use melamine wood, all kinds of different finishes. And get a roll of matching side trim that you iron on the edges. It looks awesome.
Those overalls he wears are sick as fuck. Need to get myself a pair for work. Completely forgot they existed.
Wish I would have watched this before building my rig. I just built my rig last week, got the blueprints and use the "tall" options for the pattern and it's still way too small for me and I'm only 6'0''.

awesome job shaun, you have convinced me to build this for myself

Shawn id love to see your take on a Profile iron rig.
Both are great rigs.. Best thing to do is come to our site and check out our reviews.
Guys you are doing an excellent job, thanks for the upload.
BTW I just finished watching the video. That rig looks sweet! The paint actually helps a lot, that two tone must have been difficult.
Great build guys!
I am in the process of building one of these rigs. I now know what Shaun means by laying the rig out. I am in the process of making all of those fine tune adjustments. Mine will be built for Sony PS3. I have posted a slideshow on my channel.

wheres that shifter mount !, cool build nice team love you guys

both are (supposedly) being released this year.
Love the DYI series.
Keep'em coming guys.

Definitely
Thanks for the reply!
Will this rig hold a fanatec wheel base?
BEAUTIFUL RIG
Long time, like back in the day.
Well done Shaun!
Sorry.. We have no control over it. I've discussed it in detail in our forums at Inside Sim Racing. - Darin
What seat did you guys use
Are you going to be doing anything in the Project CARS alpha?
Jessica is one foxy lady
slot the bolt holes to adjust the frt forward or back to make it adjustable for hight difference easy fix
I like to know if this would come through boldly fit a mouse and keyboard a certain way so I can play Shooters without removing the wheel
if you make 2 of these and get a tv for each one can 2 players play against each other in games like daytona usa and sega rally championship, that wud be my dream
Started building mine, except I'm using T-molding around edges.
Try the monitor stand from Bob Earl site its hundred dollars and it is worth it - because it will let you add extra for three monitors
nice looking rig .....but a lot of wood work wich its ok if u have the time well made by Jessica & Shaun cheers
I think they tell you in one of the earlier DIY vids.
love your show. thanks. im building the ricmotec RS1. Do you guys review seats? Trying to find a cool comfy racing style seat that doesn't cost and arm and a leg. Thanks guys DSN
srácok ez nagyon jól néz ki, gratulálok
my local homedepot only does straight cuts on sheets of wood they do angle cuts on 2x4's though
You guys should buy one.
Wow @ 1:32 Jessica looks AMAZING!!!!
Hey you could have used old flat screen versa to use as hight adjuster
Good job guys/girls! I need to get pics off mine up on your web sit!
Yes, it died along with the three CSR Elites we had.
Can i just buy everything n take the drawings to home depot or local wood shop n have them pre-cut everything for me? Btw this is the sickest one so far but so expensive to make i like the pvc one alot too
How long have you guys been in sim racing
When does your next video go online????
I'm not judging Thomas.. I have no idea who does what in that company. I just hope it's sorted soon.
Good stuff guys!

Did you guys get a Clubsport Wheel?
Looks great!
Quick question, could I set this on some casters for portability?
what is the reason for using MDF instead of plywood for the steering wheel and pedals support. Plywood is cheaper and easier to work with.
I think the reason they went with MDF for the top and side panels was because it is easier to get a finished look. you could set anything on casters, even your shoes, you don't need to ask.

Does the seat come with the steering wheel or separately?
Hi where would I find a plans and a video for the PVC rig ?
Thanks
coachrobwille
Is he not giving you guys one just because Darin left?
Cool story bro.
Can somebody show me where you can get a racing seat for $50?? Everywhere I seen they're 200+
thanks for the vid guy! Think im sticking to my rig though...built it out of an old Chester Draws (not a chest of draws) 0_o
I build a sim like that but it is like a telescope. It is 145 cm in playmode and 75 cm when nobody plays :)
then there where some things i thought that where so stupid: there was no forcefeedback at all because they had not download the drivers. best DIY rig ever !!!
nice attitude you've got there
-and I'll stand behind my boys..
What wood would be less ''volatile?'' i don't care if it's 20$ more expensive mdf seems very not safe
How much does this rig weigh?
nice rig can you send me the link for rig thank.
so sorry, but I must say jessica looked so amazing in that fluro green thingy
where'd you pick up a seat for $50?

Why would a small game like AC have a busy MP?
It'll be rfactor2 that's MP king.
I think height of this rig is about 30 inch is best for 6 feet height person i am build.this for me my height is 6 feet please answe me sir this height is best for 6 feet person
link plz
can you put a stick shift on there
+Ty Ford yup, they come with a plan for one that bolts to the side.
+Ty Ford yeah, they didnt put it because they messed up
Sliding seat ? One rig fits all.
Paul Gloor thats what i was thinking to do to mines
+juel sandy ''mine'' not ''mines'' lol, my grammar teacher yelling at me all the time.
Where did you guys get that seat for $50? Link?
Marc Watson That seat was very used and we put a $50 value on it. Check craigslist for something like it
Okay great thanks!
Marc Watson junkyard helps get a passenger side bucket seat from a sporty is car like a old nissan, camaro/firebird. Mustang. Not many people want cloth camaro or mustang seats so those are a dime a dozen and the passenger sides are normally manual while the driver is eletric

3 Days O_O !!! Shaun you ar chinise
lol.. um no.. Not when he's giving them away left and right to "community testers".
