Hi John, Really love your work, projects, and your great craftsmanship!! I also made a bench with rectangular dogs, and instead of a wooden spring, I utilized a short length of metal pallet banding. This is a great, simple spring for this application.
John this was timely for me. I have an antique cabinet maker been that has been in my family for several centuries and I miss place the rectangle steel bench dogs. They are in my shop somewhere, but in the meantime, I can make a couple of these until I find the other two. I'm reorganizing the shop and have most everything in boxes until I finish with the cabinets. I knew I should have labeled the boxes!!
The bench video and this are some of, if not THE best things I've seen you do. That's saying a lot, because I love all your stuff - but these last two have been nothing short of fine art. The work is absolutely beautiful and your vid production is flawless.
You’re such a great resource. I like the way you present your videos and the workbench looks incredible. I think when I’m ready to upgrade mine, I’ll definitely take you up on a patreon subscription too, so I can access this build. I do understand that content creators need to make money too (understandably), but I’m never really blown away by paywall videos, but your pricing looks very reasonable and accessible for all. I really appreciate that, especially at these difficult times. Thanks.
When I move in a few months and build a new bench, I definitely have to integrate a wagon vice like that. Also love the way you cut down the dog by dragging it across the blade; seems so much more efficient than going through it a thousand times. Can't wait for the full build!
it has been a real pleasure watching your craft develop over the years. you are an amazing craftsman, well on your way to being a truly unique artisan. thank you for sharing your work John.
Design looks almost exactly like our old woodworking school benches here in scandinavia. I have one in my workshop but its kid-sized and kind of small and low, was planning to refit the undercarriage to get it up to better height, also missing some dogs so might copy that design.
Holy crap. I never thought of using my table saw angle finder (tilt box) to determine level on other things such as my workbench. And it was only shown in passing at 4:56. lol
Hi John thanks for another great video. It was very pleasing to watch and I love the cinematography of it. Also the picture-in-picture narration bubble was a nice touch.
Me encanta ver sus videos, tiene trabajos geniales. Entiendo lo que hace pero no entiendo lo que dice, supongo que será algo parecido, pero le agradeceré si pone subtítulos en español. Gracias. Un Abrazo desde Perú.
Trivia: John Heisz did NOT use any camera equipment or editing software to create this video. Rather, he painstakingly fashioned the entire video out of walnut and maple.
Hey John, huge fan fo your work. I was watching an old video of yours called "How To Make A Wooden OTF Switchblade" and I was wondering if you could give me a link to the blueprint. I saw in some parts of the video that there was a piece of paper that had all the measurements of the parts. Thanks a lot.
John, does this mean you intend to use planes and card scrapers more often? I suspect it's just that you can't help but make beautiful and clever furniture.
as a mechanical engineer, it amazes me always how much can be achieved just using wooden parts instead of Metal. Wood as a mechanical element doesn't get enough valued in these days.
John- is your video from a few years back of your deck build on sleepers still active? I was hoping to reference it but cannot find it at all. I know this is not relevant to this video. Thank you.
Just watched the whole video over again and realized how difficult it must be to come up with titles and thumbnails because i’m struggling to come up with something better then ” beautiful work John ” 🤪 nevertheless i’m right in my statement! 👍
I think you should prank everyone on April 1 with a video where, in each successive shot, you've got another finger missing, with the stump wrapped in a white cloth bandage.
@@JohnHeisz Oddly enough I've never seen the movie, and knew nothing about it, but somehow the title was in my head... Now that I've read the wiki page, I'll pass.
I am not a woodworker, I'd like to watch that bench making videos, but I'm not intended to spend any money for that... Am I the only one who does not purseu any profit with the presented knowledge in these videos?

Interesting seeing you edge out the pieces instead of just making two cuts
I actually REALLY like this circular inset you put in for the narration.
Wholeheartedly agree!
It's too distracting
It's hilarious and functional to me
great tips for making the bench dogs. I have to say you are far braver than I am getting your fingers so close to the router bit.
...being "braver" the euphemism of the day
Wow ! I didn't realiza you already have 1 M subscribers ! Congratulations ! Take care, be happy and thanks for sharing !
Great video John! I still watched the whole thing again...
Fantastic design! I love how well laid out your workshop is. Very pleasing to watch.
Love the Picture-In-Picture talking head! I havn't seen that style of video editing hardly ever, really sets you apart!
That looks like a beautiful table build! A lot of thought went into it! Well done sir!

There are lots of good woodworkers, but few masters. You sir are a true master.

I learn a new woodworking technique/trick with each video. Thanks for the upload and efforts putting it together for others!!

I like this style of video...with the talking head in the corner describing what / why things are happening in the video.
I'm amazed every time I see your workbench. It is both visually and functionally fantastic!👍👍👍👍👍
Following you for almost a decade. You keep me amazing John.
I love your Workbench with matching wood! Cant wait for the finished project!!
It is amazing how you make all your own machine and the ideals that go into it you are a great teacher.
Love the spring on the dogs. Maybe add a peg to support the glue?

Great video, John. Very impressed with your intelligent, creative workmanship. Good stuff.
Because of you and mathais! My woodwork improves!
Keep inspiring me!

I like the editing on hammering in the dowels near the end. i may join Locals just to see more of that. ;)
I really enjoy the editing and split screen effect you did in this video
Your shop has really blossomed from the days of Knot Art.
That's a serious work bench. I'm jelly.
Hi John thanks for another great video. It was very pleasing to watch and I love the cinematography of it. Also the picture-in-picture narration bubble was a nice touch.
Really, really interesting process, John! 😃
Thanks a lot!

Looks very good John! Thank you for sharing.
Wow. Everything you make is just so inspiring! Thank you!

Do you have your woodworking academy , your knowledge is valuable and need to be transferred to other generations
Love those bench dogs

looking good..

I love your workshop and your videos. I wish to have a half of the skills you do. #ENVY😉😁
1:24 i see what you did there ;)
Ooh I like the new picture in picture when you do the voice over. 👍
lmao.. the little video image on your fingernail.
Cry 'Havoc!' and let slip the dogs of wood.
Works like his fingers will grow back on their own 😂
Elegant.
Wow!
I love the floating head! Especially over your fingertip at the table saw. Good Form!

Nice :)
I know you like to make everything out of hardware that's easily accessible, but a "nice" workbench need a left hand thread on the wagon vise.
I think you should prank everyone on April 1 with a video where, in each successive shot, you've got another finger missing, with the stump wrapped in a white cloth bandage.
In my opinion, the scandinavian workbench is much better than roubo. ❤️
Sir.. you are is wood engineer and film maker
You never showed us the final bench dogs in action at the end of the video :(
he showed it at the begining.
Are you Paul Stamet's brother?
Man uses homemade tools to make parts for more homemade tools which when finished will help him make more homemade tools.
Die Finger sind sehr nah an den Schneidwekzeugen ... besser mit Hölzern nachschieben
Lovely Woodwork.. but i cant watch because of the bad safety.
Nice title...
It was either that or: "Who Let The Dogs In... To My Workbench"
:)
