    The short answer to this question is most streamers make no money at all then get butt hurt because of it. Like you’re literally relying on the generosity of others using THEIR hard earned money to support a complete stranger they’ve never met before. So for anyone out there who streams and doesn’t make any money, just enjoy it for what it is and be grateful that anybody takes the time out of their day to watch you.

    • @GunzyHD

      Amen to that! Don't do it for the cash, do it for the love and cash will eventually come.

      @joekara 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      I feel the same way. I don't get how many streamers make so much money. I'd rather give it to homeless people in the street. But then I guess paying a sub e.g $8 a month is like going out with your best friend and shouting them a coffee.

    • @GunzyHD
      @GunzyHD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      @@joekara I think of it like magicians. All they do is show off an entertaining talent, yet people pay to watch them. Think of streaming the same. Some of these high level streamers may be giving unfortunate people money and just not showing it to the world. They make as much as people are willing to give to them, but it's still work for them you know?

    This was a great insight on streaming revenue for starters. Some people don't like showing private info like this, but you did it for the sake of teaching other people. • @Dyanosis
      @Dyanosis ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a reason people don't share "private info like this", and that's because it voids your affiliate contract with Twitch. They don't want you showing how your earnings are computed. And they sure don't want others knowing how much or how you make your money. And they don't want people knowing how scummy they are that they take so much away from the content creator, who is the person ACTUALLY doing the work.
      Before someone bitches me out, I know devs made the site and need their pay too, but without the Content Creators, the devs wouldn't be necessary so is 50/50 really a fair cut?

Streaming and earning money is always a huge topic but honestly. if you stop worrying about it and just enjoy streaming for what it is, it will come to you. but that doesn't mean "just go live", you still do have to earn it. but if you are passionate about streaming and you do your best. you are bound to have people come in and support you. my advice to anyone starting out. interact with other small communities. if you want to grow. you have to really put yourself out there. don't just throw your twitch link in peoples faces.

    I started Twitch 2.5 months ago. It took me a couple of weeks to make affiliate, and once I did, the first month after affiliate was gained I got a payout of $200.00. This is currently (17 days into) my second full month of affiliate and I have already met the threshold. I have also earned another couple of hundred from doing commission work (I am an artist), but I don't really count that as "Twitch revenue" as that's more of a side-effect of my being on the platform.
    I think it's dependent on what you do and what you focus on. I'm in the art community, which has been really generous. Other communities I have heard are a bit harder to break into. I've also got a bit of a niche, as I am a blind person who does art, and I think that helps some folks feel a little more open with giving support.
    We will see how the future goes, but I am hopeful the growth will continue. Thanks for being open with us. I figured it was only right to be just as open.

    Interesting video. I have recently contemplated to start making either TH-cam videos or Twitch/TH-cam livestreams (or both). I'm a computer engineer and I love teaching people about software and web development. A couple of years ago, I was involved in a summer camp for children aged 9--14 who wanted to try out programming. It was a very inspiring and fun experience for me. So I have thought about trying to make the teaching bit more of a professional career. I will study pedagogy at university as well, because if I were to do this professionally, I feel I have to have a better academic foundation to rely on.
    I just discovered your channel. I'm going to look through your other videos soon.
    A question about Twitch though: I have found many awesome content creators on Twitch and I want to support as many of them as possible. I feel subscriptions to be quite cumbersome to use as a viewer because they auto renew, and since I can't subscribe to them all at the same time, I will have to constantly juggle between them in a sort of rotating pattern. I'd much rather use cheers as a substitute for subscriptions. Besides the fact that subscriptions give a more accurately picture for the creator how much money they can expect next month (I would guess so, anyway), is there a difference in the cut Twitch takes for subscription versus cheers? What I mean is: does $5 in subscription yield the same paycheck for a creator as $5 worth of bits?

If you're taking an extended break, announce it. The closer you are to the consistency of TV programs, the more chances you give yourself to get a "lucky break".

      1. So once you've signed the affiliate agreement and gone through setting up your tax info, it should show if you've made any money in your creator dashboard.
      2. Channel points are all done through your affiliate tab in your settings.
      3. This one is complex, but I can do another video on this. However there is a bunch of TH-cam videos already about how to do this.
