Thanks for posting these videos recently. It had been a while since there were new videos. I imagine your sales are through the roof during Covid times with folks at home, when they can afford to get this, so they can still use their rigs at home while we wait for shows, etc to return. That's what I did and it's the best purchase I've made to keep using my tube amps at home. Thanks!
I don't have any problem with the squeal when I use the PS with my JVM410H or my Laney AOR Pro Tube Lead 100, Ironheart or my Mesa. However, when I use my amp switcher that is able to utilize the PS or attenuation across all of my amps which also allows me to use the FX Loop of the PS for all of my amps without having to unplug and plug in my pedalboard every time I want to switch amps, I get the squeal no matter where in the room I am standing.
I'm having the same issue with my amp switcher but it won't do it on all amps. For me at least I discovered it is the Switcher. I can leave the speaker connections and PS2 connections intact on the switcher and if I plug direct to the amp bypassing the switcher, no squeal. I even held up the guitar closer to the PS2 and no squeal. This of course is after trying different cables etc. I've only had the switcher a couple of months so I'll be reaching out to them to see if it needs to go back. Also it cause a mechanical noise on my Tremoverb when it is put on the switcher's internal load. Strangely it only happens when Orange channel is set to clean and the red channel is set to blues. So the internal load on the switcher may not be playing nice with internal voltage changes in the amp? Doubt I can return it outright but hoping we can resolve it.
I was searching for this just yesterday after trying my ps2 with an f-100. It worked fine on my runt and Jj jr but it wanted to squeal when I had it hooked up to the Mesa. Thank you so much for putting this out.knowing this now, I can just get a longer cord and not deal with the squeal.
I am glad I have found this video. It might have saved me some money buying stuff trying to fix a what I thought was a fault. Thanks. I am running a JMP 1987 build into a Freyette PS-2A that is all sitting right next to me on a corner desk, along with my active monitors, interface and monitor etc. Noise is a big problem either with amps, or with amp plugins. I gets ugly and with higher gain there is always a nasty hiss under every note, even with a Boss NS-2 and also a gate in DAW. I get this squeal. It usually happens if I crank the Plexi while running a cranked DOD 250 into it. Old Dimarzio HS3 and HS4 pups that have gone a little microphonic will not be helping. I guess I have to come up with a new layout for my DAW setup. I am playing guitar too close to stuff that is emitting noise. P.S. I watched a video where a guy brought in his JMP 2204 to you recently for a check up. Mr Freyette mentioned something about a simple gain mod he used to do to "rental" amps when he was touring. Does it work for JMP 1987 amps too? I have just done my first little mods to this amp. Simple stuff. Shared cathode changed to split and putting a bright cap back in. That simple gain mod might be a good candidate for my next little mod. I figure baby steps is the way to go to get started learning this stuff. Is there written detail about that mod anywhere? Thanks.
Is somebody really complaining about this? The ps is the most useful piece of gear I have ever bought! Wish I had it when I was 18 and crancking my Jcm800 to 11. It's really a must for any kind of analogic setup. Thank you for realizing it.
I have the PS100 and yes it squeals!!!! Usually only if I’m really close to the unit. But I was thinking, what about connecting a noise gate??? But where would you connect it? And is it safe? Can a gate be used between the power station’s speaker out and the speaker cabinets in; without damaging anything with the power station amp or speaker cabinets. Just a thought
I've got a Fryette PS-100 that while it's sitting still it's fine but I had to move it the other day while someone else was playing through it and I thought it was going to tear up because it started making a very loud clicking noise and a loud pop when the speaker input cable got bumped on the wall behind it. What is going on? Is that normal for it to act that way? Is it a faulty unit! I understand it won't be getting moved while in use that much but it's a $999 unit and I'm trying to figure out if that's normal. Please help.
Woah! I've been playing through a THD BiValve 30 with the Hot Plate built in for years now and always wondered how that "theremin" squeal effect worked and if it was ever a detrimental thing to the amp. Glad I know what it is now! Still love getting it to squawk at me haha
Just confirmed what I always felt. Drive Like Jehu song "luau". John Reis sticks a les paul in towards Marshall JCM 800 head close to output transformer for lengthy crazy noisy squeals and feedback all controlled...
I just had this suddenly happen over the past few days when I was using my Univibe (clone) on my board and into my JTM45. I was able to eliminate it, for now, on my HB guitars, as I pulled the vibe out of my pedal. I think I had something along the lines of a bad patch cable, and a dirty power supply (vibe uses its own 18v PS). Weird that this just started happening recently. More experiments to come.

the dog whistle feedback or can happen when routing thru a digialt mixer for totally diferent reasons

Now you know! 😁
This is good info. Now tell me why GC can’t seem to get their hands on the PS-100 I bought back in September
Finally, a Stratotheremin!
good one :)

Reis basically plays shows with his guitar inside the amp, so that's pretty definitive
I just got mine and it squeals like a pig when my pedals are plugged in ….works great with no pedals …
Great video
Using the ground lift fixed the issue for me
So nobody thinks a noise gate can be placed somewhere to do away with this squeal and noise???
A noise gate does not cure a ground loop.

Common sense. With the PS , your more likely cranking the amp more than without it.
So, in short, don’t play your guitar while hugging your amp. 😂😂😂
