Dude! That Eminence piece was absolutely awesome. One of the best pieces of music I have heard on the web this year! Really cool. BTW, caught the 82 tour at Shea Stadium!
i like that it can handle something as powerful as my Herbert. I was looking at a captor but i think the power load is the right one for me. great video thanks.
Excellent demo. Fryette is really doing some great things with the analog circuitry in the realm of simulation and non-traditional tone sculpting. This and an IR loader like Wall Of Sound might be the most versatile setup that can be had for those who can't play loud or don't have the room for many speaker cabs.
Awesome demo! For me, great explanation differentiating between the Power Load and Power Station. I'm new at this stuff, so that helped tremendously! As always superb playing!!
WOW! I never knew that this box existed! I thought the PS was the only load-device unit that Fryette makes! I have an original Suhr RL now, but I am going to try one of these as it has some EQ flexibility...... Thanks alot! :)
Sounds great! can you explain in knucklehead terms the room IR thing a bit more? -Is that a room reverb IR (like space designer) assigned to two tracks and panned left and right? and what IR?
My only major question after seeing the demo and considering the purchase is, how does this affect your zero ground noise so I guess not the 60 cycle hum from a guitar but I’m talking about the ground noise from the amplifier itself does this reduce that ground noise due to not having to stress out the master volume Which sometimes can create a little bit of an area I just wondered if this would help eliminate that lower volumes thanks 0:41
Sir you are great! Also wanted to get your opinion on the new Fryette power load IR. Is it worth waiting for or should I grab this guy? I’ve had ox and the new two notes captor x and didn’t bond with either of them. I love a mic and amp all the way but cannot do it in my apartment. This is a wonderful demo!
Hey Michael, fantastic channel and phenomenal playing! With the advent of all of these load boxes, I finally decided to dust off and bring out of storage my Bogner Ecstasy 101B head. I live in LA in a condo and I have a two-year-old so I have no use for an attenuator because I have no intention of ever micing up or playing through a 4 x 12 cabinet. At least at this stage in my life LOL. The Power Load seems like a very interesting option because the feature set is pretty much geared toward my desire to use my Bogner to record directly into my DAW. How would you compare the Power Load to Rivera’s Mini RockRec? And is there anything else you would recommend for my DI recording needs? Many thanks in advance!
Eminence Front was "Sick" - just a fantastic job with a Killer Song. I'm thinking about a Fryette PS-2 for my 65 Fender Princeton Reverb reissue? I can only put my Amp on 2 in my NYC Apt, and I'd like to be able to go to Volume: 3.5 or 4 - what do you think? Appreciate any input. Stay Safe.
@@BigHairyGuitars Thanks Michael. The most important thing-for-me is: I just Don't want to Damage my Amp. I Love that Amp.Nothing sounds like a Princeton. Those gorgeous Fender cleans ! Appreciate the input brother.
What are the main differences between the power load and power station? Can the power station pretty well do everything the power load can do(minus the cab and mic IR?) Im just trying to figure out which one is more practical for my needs because they are similar in price! I mainly want it for level attenuation to get my amps cooking live and for recording a live cab in studio, and for recording an amp direct with and without a real cab or a blend of both! I'm not to concerned about having built in IR's or having a re-amp box! Which would you reccomend based on those needs? Any thoughts?
basically the power station is a power amp & attenuator.. and the power load is just a reactive load without the power amp section. The power load can be used with headphones or direct to your DI. It cannot power a cab. If your desire is for recording, then the power load is probably a better product for you. If you just want to crank an amp and play using an existing cab, the power station is good. The power station is the more expensive product and does support XLR and line outputs for recording. It just doesn't have the cab/mic IR support. You can add cab/mic emulation via software on our desktop.
I keep coming back to this video both to check out the Power Load and your version of Eminence Front. Two requests if you don't mind: Can you upload the full version of the song solo? And if you can, do you think you could use the Deliverance and Power Load combo in the future to do some tight, high gain riffing? That's my main use and I'm on the fence a bit with that and the PL. The PL sounds great for cleans and leads in yours and other demos. I'm very close to ordering one.
Hey Michael, i wanted to maybe replace my Randall RT2/50 power amp with a Fryette Power Station for my Randall RM-4 preamp with my Salvation Mod modules that I use. My question is : 1- will it sound as good as my big power amp? 2- Do i get the power station 1 or 2? Is there a big difference for playing live or is it mainly for recording and bedroom levels that were improved? 3-Can the 6L6 tubes be changed to EL-34 Thanks so much.
@Michael Nielsen If you have a second, I'm a little unclear here. The contour and emphasis controls only affect the DI, or does it also control the output to a cab?
I’m finally looking at getting a load box. So far these look like my best option without breaking the $1k mark. Would i really be missing anything if I got this one instead of the other. I can’t think of a reason why I would but I’m assuming you made a video of it. Basically I just need something to go into my UAD Apollo twin to use with wall of sound.
These are great load boxes. The power load is just a load box with analog cab sim. The Power station is a load box with a power amp. It depends on your needs.
Hey Michael, at 3:27 you clarify that to take full advantage of the reactive load you can't use a speaker through the Power Load - but, could you send another speaker output from the amp to a cabinet to then get the full reactive load from the Power Load as well as being able to run a live cab?
No, this will replace a cab for the purposes of creating a line level signal. It won't lower the volume to the cabinet. You'll need something like the UA OX, or the Power Station to have that affect.
@@BigHairyGuitars thanks for the reply. I have the OX and it is a great unit for direct recording but unfortunatly i am very disapointed with the attenuation.when i use a setting below 4 the aoun start's to get very muddy. Do you thing it is worth to get the power station to use it instead od the OX with a real cab?
I'm not clear on one thing. Can this be used as an attenuator? It has cab-through connections and it has a "Level" control, so I would think it can be used for attenuation. BUT, the Fryette website says "For those looking for Attenuators, see the Fryette Power Station®". This seems to be a contradiction.
It’s sorta work opposite to an attenuator. An Attenuator incrementally lower your amp volume. The Power Station takes the full load, and lower the volume to 0, then raises the volume with its internal power amp. The Power Load is only the load. Talking the amp to 0, allowing you to run a direct line to a composer interface, or into an external power amp
Hey Michael , great demo, but i didn't get this: does the level affect the volume going through to the cab? do this work like a cab attenuation just like the Power Station? thanks
ObeliscO no. That’s the big difference between the two. The Power Load doesn’t change the level to the cab at all. But, it can take the full load of the speaker so you can slave the signal to a power amp, or go into a computer for IR simulations
Does this do all the same stuff as the ox amp top box? Attenuation and cabinet and mic simulations, so seems so to me. Just wondering what the differences are, thanks
The Power Station ONLY is a load box, and an analog speaker/mic sim. It wont reduce your live amp volume at all. It will take the full load of the amp so that it can be recorded into the computer without a speaker cab attached.
I chose the PL-1 V2 over the PL-1 I.R.version so I don't have to be tethered to a computer to revoice a cab. With knobs I can make subtle changes in the emulation analog circuit quickly. No dick'n around with I.R's.....
I need a recommendation...I have amps, pedals and I need a rig to play and record, jam or whatever "very quietly" in a trailer...What should I aim for? Fractal Ax8....or something like this? or ? Need help here...can't afford it all...Any thoughts my friend? Open to a computer rig...Headphones last and least option...
If you love your amp and pedals, you can go with a Power Load + a Mooer Radar. There's tons of versatility there. Or a Power Load will bring your amp volume down to next to nothing with a nice fat tone. I like real amps quietly more than digital amps. After a while, digital amps just start bothering me and I start hating my playing. Then I plug back into a real amp, and I feel OK again. :)
I use the power load in combination to with the spl reducer attenuator (one of the most transparent tonewise) And i can play my jcm 800 2203x at full volume through headphones without hurting my hearing👍😎
They are two completely different technologies. Mostly, the Torpedo is an digital IR player. The Power Load is an ALL analog cab simulator. There is no digital control, it’s all analog. As far as sounding better...they are very different, like Strat vs Les Paul.

Did you by chance run any overdrive pedals into it?
Excuse my ignorance is the sound shaping only going to the DAW or is the live cabined sound able to be shaped also.
The sound to the cab is unaffected. Only the sound in the DAW is shaped.
I just picked one of these up and am noticing clipping even at very low amplifier volume settings. Have anyone else experienced this?
