I am also a nurse & hear you about the hands. The best hand care advice I have tried was from Mary Corbet, a surface embroiderer. This is meant to be done at a time away from stitchy time. Mix well equal parts of sugar and olive oil. Grab a tbsp or 2 of the mixture and rub all over hands for about 5 min. Rinse hands of the grit but rub in the excess oil. It exfoliates & moisturizes at the same time. Cheap & inexpensive. I keep a container of it in my bathroom & use it daily. Then I can use lotion of my choice t/o the day to try & keep on top of the dryness. At work I keep a tube of Glysomed right on my WOW & premixed bottle of glycerine & rosewater(bought at the pharmacy) in my bag for when things get bad. However, Murphy’s law is that as soon as I use those 2 products I instantly need to spike an IV bag ☹️ In the worst months of the year I literally use polysporin as hand cream before going to bed at night. I always wash my hands before stitching so using a lotion directly before stitching would not help me. In the past I have tried some stitchy friendly lotions but because of the amount I use I didn’t find them economical.
Thanks for the tips! I’m definitely going to try that sugar and olive oil mix - that’s a great idea! Sounds like you definitely know the troubles I am speaking of! Thanks for tuning in and sharing your routine. Happy stitching!
I am still working on my "Spirit of Quilting Angel" by Brooke's Books for my local quilt shop owner. I also purchased the "Spirit of Christmas Angel" for Christmas stitching for next year! :) I may do her on linen though---so glad she gives you both a pattern for perforated paper and one for cloth. I don't think I would get a Reflets De Soie advent box next year, but the snowflakes were cute. 😏 The dinosaurs are VERY cute! Have a great day! ❤❤❤
Oh, I know what you mean about dry hands! I am not a nurse but meine also, especially in winter, are almost always destroyed. I really struggle stitching with Kreinik and even though I want very much to try stitching with silk I am thinking I better do that in the summer! So the lotion is a very good advent gift idea 🧴 How cute are those dinosaurs, I think your nephews will love them 🦖 and I really, really like that linen you got! It looks amazing can't wait to see what you are going to stitch on that one🌼🌺🏵 Looking forward to seeing you soon again 😍🎄🎅🧵🪡
Your journey with the advent calendar reminds me of the Office episode where Dwight received parts of something every day and had to assemble it to figure out what it built. 😂
Buying gifts you will like and use seems to be the thing to do! Bumble Stitches bought a used Liberty Advent Calendar, which is beautiful, and filled it herself. The one box I wish I bought is the MSQC one. I'm a fan of Chuck the Duck and had I known they would have gifts featuring him and even some of the gift wrap has him, I would've invested. Last year it wasn't my cup of tea. (but that's quilting related) Those boxes are hit or miss. Around my fingernails crack and bleed. I have tried everything. They hurt so much too. Aquaphor with gloves (feels like petroleum jelly), Working Hands and so much more. Nothing helps and I can't stitch. Love the dinosaurs.
Oh yes I’ve been following on along hers! It’s just so hard with advents. I’m like, if I’m going to spend all this money I want to know what’s in there but I still want it to be a surprise lol
@@FibersandFlossCanada Being surprised is fun but not if it's a dud. Especially if it was very expensive. It would be nice to give someone the money to buy stuff from your 123 Stitch Wishlist and make the Advent. You know it will be something you're wishing for but not know what they chose off your list. Even better if they paid for it-LOL.
Hi Arica! I am sad too that the 12 days of Christmas are coming to an end, but we’ll just have to look forward to next year! 😜 I love that you are incorporating activities as well as stitchy goodness into your advent, it has been perfect and so enjoyable. Can’t wait to see your finished ornaments! I finished 2 gift ornaments yesterday, just in simple 3” hoops, and that wiped me out, lol.
I know, I’m already looking forward to next year! Thanks for watching along, it means a lot to me ❤️ Yes the finishing is worth it but exhausting! I’m going to try again this year to stitch one month and then I will have 12 for Dec!
The jury is back with a guilty of disappointment verdict. Glad to see you wearing your Santa hat:) We brought in greens and placed in antique graniteware coffee pot.
I’m so glad we can all agree on this box. I’ve got my Santa hat on to bring some festive cheer ;) I’m happy to hear you’ve gathered some greens today ❤️
Well u certainly have no shortage of floss/project cards 😂 I LOVE those 🦕 designs!!! Cant wait to see them as ornaments they are going to look so good! That santa hat with the leopard trimming looks AMAZING on you! I agree...all about good hand hygiene, but if i washed my hands that many times id have no skin left! I have psoriasis, which mistly shows up on my face (of all places 🤦♀️) in the summer, but my hands and skin get especially dry in the winter to the point where they crack! Not the most conducive to stitching then! Happy stitching! 🐈⬛🪡❤️
Wreath making evening sounds like great fun. I too try to use every inch of my fabric…sometimes regretting the choice as it affects how I can do the fully finishing. 🦉🧵🪡🎄
I love watching your videos. Really enjoy seeing the projects you are stitching. I also really love your custom curated advent. What a great idea. You could gather it up all year long and have a nice surprise when it is time to open ❤. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!!
Those dinosaurs are so cute, Arica!!! I completely understand the 'hand' issue (retired nurse). The stitcher's lotion is good if you need some while you are stitching and crafting but the one that I have found the most helpful is O'Keefe's Working Hands cream. You used to only be able to get it in Home Depot but now it is available in all drugstores/Walmart, etc. I use it frequently and it really works for me. (I think I have purchased every hand lotion known to mankind!) I keep forgetting to mention your beautiful Swarovski tree - it's gorgeous! My BFF has gifted my husband and I with one of their annual ornaments since 1997 and it is one of my favourite trees. Thanks as always and happy stitching.
Oh I will have to keep my eyes out for that cream - thank you! Wow you were gifted the ornaments since 1997??? That would be the most amazing gifts of all time! Do you have them on a mini tree or??
I am a nurse too Arica although I don't practice anymore, but my hands are bad still to this day. Yes 53 threads in one direction and 63 in the other. That is the way a lot of linens were in the "old days".
@@FibersandFlossCanada You say you are stitching on a 53/63 - as far as I know. You could always Google it to see what you can find. Let me know. Maybe mention it in a flosstube to educate the "masses" 🤣
Hi Arica I am using a Vonna tutorial today for a flat fold for a Christmas Gathering 🌲 I got the stitching finished and am going to turn it into a flat fold for my sister❤ ….I will have to stitch it again for myself! I will post my finish at some point today and tag you so you can see it. Those dinosaurs are so cute! Thank you for putting so much into these advent blogs. You are much appreciated ❤
I watch this just to see your reaction to “the advent box” 🤣. Love your ideas! We are so short staffed at work this week I’ve not had time to do them but I’m on vacation next week and plan to do some of your ideas!
Haha I think there’s a few of you tuning in for the reactions lol! It’s funny at work we are overstuffed and dead, which I’ve never experienced in our department, like literally never!

Hand hygiene 7 times per patient?!?! That's nuts!!!
