Seeing your channel really helped give me the confidence to dive into 3d printing. Your projects specifically, and your willingness to share your failures really were key to showing me that 3d printing can be fun while still being challenging and rewarding. Thank you, best wishes, and I hope you continue to inspire us for years to come.

One critical thing that gave me the impetus to take the leap into playing with 3d printing was (as cheesy as this sounds) your personal enthusiasm for the subject, I saw enough in the joy and wonder of what this channel shows to decide, yep, this looks cool. Thank you :)

Back in 2017, a friend of mine was going to hire me to work for a business he was wanting to start. He was going to start a 3D print studio, and I was going to be on-site IT support. At the time, I didn't know anything about CAD work or slicing or 3D printers or any of that. I have no clue why but I pretty much counted my chickens before they hatched. I was under the impression that he already secured the funding and was starting at the beginning of the year, so I quit my job and was ready to go work for him. He called me a week after New Year's Day and told me the bank had declined them and the studio was dead in the water.
It wasn't until I stumbled upon your channel in late 2019 that I started getting really intrigued by the technology. I don't remember what specific video I saw first, but I remember bingeing a bunch of them when I found your channel. I taught myself how to design in Fusion 360 and started designing little trinkets and things to 3D print...
    but I didn't have a printer.
I did a bit of research (using Maker's Muse and 3D Printing Nerd as a guide, of course), and ended up buying the Monoprice Maker Select Plus (a.k.a. Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus)... and fought with underextrusion issues for the next year, only to find out the extruder motor was calibrated WAY wrong. How it printed even the demo models was a mystery...
Lately I've been doing a lot of designing on a larger scale. I've done an oil barrel rainwater catchment tower, and an aquarium stand. I'm currently working on a campervan build. It's a great creative outlet, even if I'm not getting paid for it.

I was sold into printing as soon as i saw your big beautiful face and awesome Aussie voice! Youre still the only maker whos community I subscribe to and happily financially support, as you show me all of your failures alongside your successes.
Since finding your videos, they have helped me define a path to create a small business creating Flow instruments, such as Dragon Staff, contact staff, poi, and fans. The best company on the planet for this is called ThreeWorlds and theyre actually based out of Queensland. You may be interested in some of their cool spinning geometry as i was, but would be able to acquire it much easier than me over in the States!
I learned Onshape, and then you convinced me to learn Fusion360 instead, and then i made all of my own designs! I am currently expanding to have 3 printers, highly modified with Hemeras to print TPU at 100mm/s, just like my first e5+.
I wouldnt be where i am without you Angus, and my girlfriend is eternally jealous of how much attention you get!

You're a good example of what the younger generation can do 3D printing with passion and an early start. I'm 56 and my first 3D prints were on my own hardware before I implemented G-Code processing. That was about 12 years ago? My favorite part from those times is a pair of nested spheroids that I designed programatically, the printer was calculating the shape from my formulae as the extruder moved. Now I'm very used to designing in openscad and many of my designs are perfect first time, others I add refinements to after proof of concept or occasionally I make a mistake and have to correct it. You can only make a mistake so many times before you learn from it! It's good to see your range of creative solutions and it will happen to you too, your design success rate will continue to improve as you learn how to implement pre-printing design checks. For example in openscad, I will sometimes model a device that my object needs a critical clearance fit to, make adjustment for filament squidge oversizing and then test fit with my clearance model in semi transparent. When I was a teenager and inventing pumps, modeling their motion in my head before they were built was difficult but I persevered and it became easy. When I started using CAD some 11 years ago, I learned the fundamentals quickly but it took time to improve my design work flow so that a design start to finish was fast and without mistakes. On top of all this is the different capabilities of the different printers we work with. Understanding what they can achieve and sometimes having the patience to get the result we want but slowing our print speed or tweaking settings to optimise them for the special requirements of our model. It is still mostly a hobby for me but I do sell a portion of what I make, be it maths art or functional designs.

I remember hearing the word maker get thrown around back in like 2008-2010 on a randomly suggested TH-cam video. Watched printer make a bike chain at some con and thinking that's really cool so I... did no more research and completely forgot about 3D printers up until 2019 or 2020 when a friend told me he was thinking about getting a printer. Later that day I searched on Facebook marketplace for 3D printers and found a guy selling refurbished Ender 3 v2's for $150ish, CR10s Pro v1's for $300 and several other models. Called my friend and he asked me to grab him a few and I figured while I'm at it I'll grab myself one.
After a few days of tinkering and watching videos like yours, I got my E3v2 up and running and fell in love. Quickly went back for one of those CR10's.
These days I have 7 running fdm printers, 1 nib E3p, 3 more fdm printers I got for cheap I need to get running and finally 3 resin printers running.
I really appreciate all the content you put out there and am happy to be subscribed to your channel. Thanks.

Just the glass in a car is a very effective UV block. I drove a 300 mile trip in my SLK with the roof down when I first bought the car in a UK Summer, and found out to my cost :-) What got me into 3D printing - my other hobbies, I'm into electronics, boxes, fixtures, brackets, covers. A radio Amateur - aerial components, knobs, insulators. I ride an EUC's which have all manner of 3D printed modifications. When I first got the printer, all the printer add on's, spool holders, nozzle holders, a carbon filter and fan, cable tidies, wing nut covers, heated chamber fixings. And then for fun, mobile phone holder, Xmas decorations, models. My 3D printing hobby has expanded I print PLA, PETG, ABS, TFU, Nylon-CF (even trimmer cord), on borosilicate glass, PEI, G10, usually with glue stick, with a Qidi X-Plus printer with two Low temp extruders and two High temp extruders (mainly because I keep swapping materials). The bowden tube goes into the nozzle of the low temp extruder where the bowden tube stops at the top of the high temp nozzle. I fabricated Stainless Steel inserts to my brass and replacement nozzles so the bowden (capricorn) tubing stops at the top of all my nozzles now so to extend the life of the tube. I have ruby brass nozzles for abrasive filaments (with my S/S inserts) in 0.4 and 0.6 for when I print Nylon-CF in particular. You were one of the first channels a cottoned onto when I start, thanks very much, your vides have been really helpful, I have even got that book "506 Mechanical Movements", proper first edition of course :-)

It's very satisfying getting your print to work perfectly on the first or second go, like the 3" racing drone propellers I printed out of TPU last year, I printed a single bi-blade one which produced thrust, so then printed a set of 4 tri-blade ones with the same blade design and went flying :)
People couldn't quite believe the footage I uploaded was real.

To answer the question of what got me into 3D printing: Nobody's video, but a need. The house I was in at the time had a toilet that kept breaking the flush arm, metal ones, from a hardware store. Adjusting the chain length had no effect and eventually it would break and the toilet would not work. While looking for a solution I came across an entire flush assembly designed for 3D printing. Bought myself my first 3D printer (Flashforge Creator Pro) and printed the assembly in clear PETG. It was still in that toilet and still working like a champ when I sold the house years later.

What got me into 3D printing? Easy: I'm a gurdyist. That's like the car mechanic of musicians. I needed a way to organize everything I need on stage - isopropylic alcohol, rosin [sic!], cloth, cotton, screwdrivers in one 'maintenance box', microphone and transmission system in a 'mic box', and both, plus my belt, needed to fit the very narrow space in my hurdy gurdy case.
And as soon as that project was done, I started designing and printing cable management for my desk, my pedal board, things to attach things to other things, shelves-in-shelves for micro organization... Well, I guess my 3d printer is more of a tool than a hobby, now.

To the question what video got me interested in 3D-printing. It was actually not a video. I have been working in R&D for most of my working life. When working in Denmark we used 3D-printed parts for prototypes more than 25 years ago. We didn't have our own 3D-printer but got it printed somewhere else.
Fast forward to a year ago. I was doing mechanical designs from home on project basis for clients. I was annoyed of the lead time for getting prototypes printed. To speed up the design/prototyping process I bought a Prusa i3 mk3+. Almost from day one I had success with my prints which was great as I needed it to work without too much tweaking. I must say it is such an enjoyment to be able to design something and in a few hours I have it on my desk.
I have with interest followed your channel alongside with other channels. I have learned a lot from your videos about how to improve my printing skills. Most importantly how to tweak a designs to optimize it for 3D-printing. You have shown several great ideas how to do that.
95% of my parts are printed in ASA (for outdoor use), so had to upgrade with an enclosure which is working great. Now living in Brisbane I understand your comments on the Australian summer weather and 3D-printing :-).
    Keep doing your great work.

I think the Geneva mechanism is the video that introduced me to your channel. As for what got me interested in 3d printing, I'd have to say it was an early Instructible where a guy printed a new clip for an under-cabinet fluorescent light he had in his kitchen. It wasn't anything complicated, a little c-shaped piece with some protrusions to lock onto the frame of the light, but it was so satisfying that he could just make the part he needed when there was no other way he could have replaced it. After watching that video there were countless times when I would think, "I could fix that if I had a 3d printer" but until the last few years when they started getting cheap I could never afford one. Now I have two and I'm printing stuff all the time.

Ben Hack's video about building a 3D printer that would fit in an overhead bin on a plane. It showed me how simple 3D printers could be. I then designed my first printer and built it. This year i finally took the chance and bought an ender 3 as a simple purchase to meet my needs, but as time passed i started to like 3d design so im now learning blender sculpting and i love fusion 360. this is a new area to explore and im very excited to learn more about it. You as well as CNC kitchen and Thomas Sanlderer were some of the people that got me into this amazing world, so thank you :)

About 6 years ago while seeing a past boss of mine, that I still keep in contact with, he had a half built 3d printer in his workshop. I was fascinated by it! I'm a fitter and turner by trade but this bloke gave me a 10 year opportunity as a design engineer. We designed and built some amazing machines over that 10 years. So seeing his half built printer, and knowing nothing about them I set out to design and build my own... From that I fell in love with the machines and since that first, from scratch FDM, I've also designed and build a resin printer... from scratch. I've also designd and built a extruder that I still use to this day 😊
Thanks for the amazing stuff you do here on your channel

To have the big pc fan spin slowly and quietly, try using one of those small 120VAC low RPM motors that are mostly found in microwaves, laminators, disco lamps, and timers!

I first came across 3D printing when I took a CAD class on a whim as I was getting my degree in a different area. This was one of the big SLS machines and I still have most if not all of my prints from those classes, I wouldn't get into hobbyist 3D printing until much later when I had a design for a mount for my microphone arm and after realizing how much a 3D printing service cost, vs getting a FDM machine and doing it myself I decided to get into home 3D printing.

    This retrospective was great!
I first arrived here nearly 5 years ago while desperately searching for Fusion 360 tutorials that I could understand and that would give me the minimum I needed to do useful things sooner. I didn't want to learn Fusion 360 feature by feature. I wanted to learn the most important things in an order that would focus on rapid productivity. The tutorials here were exactly what I wanted, after which I watched all the prior channel content, and have been subscribed ever since.
    Thanks!

What and awesome trip down memory lane Angus. You have designed some incredible models over the years, most of them I've printed.
Those command trips are crap; a family member got some to hang picture hook up with, a few days later they were all on the floor. So I reverted to the tried and trusted hot glue, 3 years later they're all still in place. A little IPA on a cotton bud will release if required.

i got into 3d prining because im a dungeon master , i was spending alot of money on minis for the multiple games i run and my brother knew it, he got me an ender 3 pro for Christmas one year, and i knew literally zero about 3d printing, it took me a few days to even get my first successful print , so i came to youtube to learn as much as i could and this is one of the channels i found, i went back to some of your basic tutorials and troubleshooting vids and it helped me so much, now im printing stuff daily , still for dungeons and dragons but also for other people and other things, i even do a little simple design of 3d objects! thanks again!

It's weird realizing how long I've been following your channel, and how much I've put your advice to use (for instance, there is a 4.8 million-year-old mastodon skull in Gray, TN that is being reconstructed with help from your mesh technique in "3D Printed Resin Clean Tray with Infill Mesh!"

I think that my introduction to 3D printing came long, long ago, but I never gave it much serious thought until I discovered RCLifeOn's videos a couple of years ago. His stuff made me want to try it out, but it was your videos that inspired me to actually get a 3D printer. I ended up getting an X-Maker after I saw your review since it seemed like a small yet reliable starting point, and the darn thing just keeps going and going.
I originally wanted to get into it as more of an artist, but I've learned so much more about how parts fit together(can I call it engineering?) and even how to tweak and modify the Ender 3 Pro that I got later, which is something I never expected to do. It's all been such a fantastic experience, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Redo the Fusion overload. I suggest printing a ball bearing or use a marble, so no one can use a magnet. Perhaps using a small spring loaded gate, so the weight of the bearing would allow it to push through (imagine the small metal extension part on a micro switch. It's hard to describe without using a picture.) That way the bearing can go only one way. A weak enough spring would be needed.
The maker coin was what got me into 3d printing.

The original thing that got me interested in 3d printing was when I was just a kid, and there was an episode of Good Game Spawn Point if I remember correctly, and they were showing a industrial 3d printer printing a lego figurine, I saw that and went "I NEED THAT" and then googled it and saw these printers for 15 grand and gave up on that dream. Years later, I would find your channel, see more on 3d printing, and eventually get my first 3d printer.....the Anet A8! No it didnt burn, I updated the firmware like first thing cause thats what everyone said to do, so thermal runaway detection was on. Since then the Anet is in pieces in a box, and i use my Prusa i3 Mk3S, shes such a good printer.

I’ve got into 3d printing when I realized how difficult it is to get enclosures for my electronic projects with all the cutout’s and spacers .
But once I started 3d printing I’ve neglected my electronics hobby and restarted using rhino3d that Ive pursued before but lost interest because I could not really manifest my designs Physically.
3d printing changed that I’m rarely printing anything beside functional parts and I’ve switched to fusion360 parametric design is really useful. I can remember how many times I’ve redesigned something from scratch because a cutout had wrong dimensions or a surface had the wrong angle.

@7:15 (I SELL TAPE FOR A LIVING) Command strips falling of the print Is because PLA is a low surface energy plastic, you could either scuff up the back of the print to gain better adhesion, or use a special LSE tape, that is designed to spread out more over the surface of the part you are trying to adhere, 3M sells a special tape (if you are fancy)LSE-060WF VHB, or Tesa 4965, or glue something to the back of the part that has better properties, and then tape that to the wall. Im sure this helps absolutely no one, but hey.... let me know if you ever need tape samples.
    Cheers
